My 2008 bird

Postby XiBowhunter on Sat Apr 26, 2008 1:39 am

Although I didn't take this bird with my bow, I thought I would post up some pictures here. I have hunted hard for almost two weeks now, and I finally connected this morning. The only thing that could make it better is if my father would have killed it, because he has never killed one before.

Here are the measurements:

19 lbs

1" spurs

10" beard

Damn fine gobbler XI!!!

Congratulations on the hunt. Bow or gun, any bird you hunt for two weeks before giving him a ride in the truck, is a great trophy won my friend! Kudos!

What call did you use?

It is a funny story actually.

I had put my slate calls that I use most often in my jacket pocket. With the temps in the 70's in the morning, I didn't need the jacket, and forgot about my calls being in there. I had walked over a mile from the truck when I set up on the two gobblers I called in, and found out that I didn't have a call. I fumbled around and found a mouth call in the back of my pack, so I used it. I had never called in a bird with a mouth call, and I really didn't have much faith in them, but that call paid off in a big way that morning.
