That also brings up the question...why do you do it? I use my vehicle to scout, my primary scouting tool combined with a good pair of binoculars, but no road hunting. Surely the purpose is to kill a turkey, but is it for the table that you're apt to do so, or is it the hunt itself.
Turkey hunting here in the south is an institution and a practice of certain disciplines involved in the taking, or at least the attempt to take the bird. Our target is more the killing of a turkey via a disciplined hunting effort. Sort of like a mountain climber; is the goal the climbing of the mountain or reaching the top? If the goal is ultimately to reach the top, why wouldn't they just take a helicopter as opposed to the hours of sweat and toil climbing their way up there.
Road hunting of turkeys is akin to getting caught with five aces in a hand of stud poker, using wrigglers in a fly only trout stream, or swatting a covey of quail on the ground. It's surely a more expedient way of reaching the ultimate goal, ie a dead turkey, but in doing so, you really cheat yourself of the satisfaction of having played the game without slipping that extra ace into the deck, getting worm juice on your hands at the stream, or showering dirt all over the covey.
I reccommend calling them in. Not being critical of a legal practice in your area, mind you, but I really feel sorry for anyone not ever knowing the thrill of the hunt as I've experienced it so many times before. I really do wish I could share it with you...some day perhaps.
One reason why that style of hunting may be legal is the fact of the vast amounts of land in her area. Where I hunt, most land is locked to 500 acres or smaller, while out west, land can reach in the 10,000 acre mark or more. having a vehicle to spot a flock of turkeys, get out, and put a stalk on them may be a much better and more successful way of getting a chance at a bird. I am not condoning riding around, blasting #4 shot out of the cab of your pickup, but when you have thousands of acres to hunt, you have to be mobile and find the birds when and where you can.
