Happy "Hunter's Moon"!

Of the thirteen phases of the moon, this "Hunter's Moon" and the next "Moon Of Deer Rutting" are my favorites. It signals the end of the nocturnal bachelor groups and the beginning of the time for the big bucks to get up and move marking out their territories, fighting and running off the younger bucks, and generally preparing for the rut.

Down here in Florida, deer are definitely feeling the effects and are fighting, rubbing, and scraping all over the woods. I'm looking forward to filling the freezer with some fresh venison over the next couple of months. For the trophy hunters out there, now is the time to ply your trade! Big bucks will be more and more active during the daylight hours and are most susceptable to scents, decoys, and vocalizations.

Get out and enjoy the time of the year that the Native American's recognized as the Hunter's Moon for thousands of years and celebrate our heritage as hunters!

HAPPY HUNTER'S MOON!!!! :D

The hunters moon didn't help me out any, but it was nice to see, and def kept the deer moving.

Personally, I think opening day of tureky season ought to be a federal holiday!

If the government can dedicate a whole day in January toward some coon getting shot, we ought to have a day about a turkey getting shot!

Oh wait, I guess Thanksgiving sort of covers that, don't it? Nevertheless, there's nothing like opening day!

The only thing I wish is that KY would go back to turkey season opening on a Wednesday instead of Saturday. I have a good reason behind this:

Nothing against weekend-only hunters, but having that many people hunting turkeys on opening day, because it is the weekend, really makes the birds spooky throughout the whole season. If the season starts on a week-day, there will be less hunters in the woods, and we can kind-of ease the birds into the pressure of the weekend hunters. This is just my theory of course.
