Rob_on_guitar interviews ........Axeshredder interviews Rob_on_guitar

Date: 31/Mar/08

Axe: I guess the best place to start is from the beginning. What age did you start your guitar and what or who (another guitarist) made you decide?

Rog: I actually started out as a drummer! I was 7 when I started drumming, then I heard Megadeth, Yngwie, Dokken and Metallica. The guitar was a natural choice from then onwards. I found I had a knack for figuring out riffs

Axe: Did you ever take professional lessons?

Rog: Always wanted to but never did.

Axe: What is your closest claim to fame so far?

Rog: I failed on a sound engineering course miserably, but still managed to work with George Thorogood, Joe Satriani, Pantera, Santana and Shihad. All of them are very special people and deserves they fame they received. My only regret was not plucking up the courage to shake Dimes hand; I was too much of a fan and was freaking out that I was working at their gig! I also got to jam with Ronnie Taylors band after they heard me at their sound check!

Axe: In your hometown, how hard is it for a guitarist to join up with a band or start your own?

Rog: Its very hard to find people fully committed to the cause. NZ has a disadvantage that most musos leave the country to make ends meet musically.

Axe: Do you gig a lot? If so best and worst experience so far

Rog: I retired the band life when I joined the army here, but best experience was playing in front of 3000 people, in the rain, 11 at night, guitar solo and the crowd loving every moment! Worst experience I think was falling for a girl backstage knowing nothing would ever happen beyond that night! :p

Axe: What is your favorite guitar, owned and un owned?

Rog: My favorite is my Takamine GX200. My father gave it to my brother who since has passed away, so it holds a lot of personal value, I guess most would remember when I posted about it. Also it has a killer rock tone! The fret board feel is amazing! I love it to bits to the point where I think I may start collecting just that model.
My other fave that was also stolen was my Jackson flying V, any metal heads best weapon of choice!

Axe: Favorite scale/mode:

Rog: I am a harmonic and minor freak baby oh yea!

Axe: What is your favorite all time guitar solo?

Rog: Pantera The Sleep and Hendrix Voodoo Chile, although both are loud and rocking, I can sense the feeling in each bend!

Axe: As the originator of these interviews, have you ever worked for the press or as an interviewer?

Rog: Never, I only know everyone by their forum personality, and we have a great bunch of people! I just wanted to know them as people instead of forum personalities.

Axe: What would you say to our younger up and coming guitar men and woman?

Rog: Never force it. If you find you are struggling, put that guitar down and have a beer then come back to it later. Also take the time to listen to other players, offer honest criticism in a positive way and always encourage.

Also BUY MY RECORDS!!! Hahahahahaha just kidding, I have no records lol

A glimpse into the brain of a musical mastermind. 8-) I have to say that I'm surprised that you cited Hendrix as doing one of your favorite solos. My guess would have been Yngwie, Randy Rhoads, or someone in that vein.
You had a groupie? Awesome!
