Scripps National Spelling Bee

I watched the semi finals and the finals and have to say I only knew of about five words and could only spell 3 of them.
Some amazing kids though.

I was the Spelling Bee champ back in the days. It always amazes me when I go to web sites and see how many people can't spell. :hm:

That's funny acwild...I was spelling bee champ too back in my school days. Nothing like this new breed of spellers though, I don't even know what words they're talking about half the time - amazing that these kids know the origin, etc.

They can't be human. Then again, what kids have available to them today vs. what we had for learning is a huge difference. I remember my step-daughter having a tantrum because I made her use "the 56k modem and not high speed..." :lol2: Man, she was seriously pissed!

yeah i wuz a spelin champ 2...lol...seriously spellling has been an issue for me as a sign designer....i just tell them im in the sign business not the spelling business

here a video that i saw on the 11:00 news..i was in shock....yes it was me who did the drawings and got the slack about it (jokingly) but they are subject to approval so it was there fault for approving it. They paid for the new ones. Its not about knowing how to spell the word...its about drawings with so many signs, you kinda dont notice.

:lu: It's bad enough when you realize an error, but for it to be on the news and seen by so many people just sucks. Glad you have a sense of humor about it Axe.

I guess it's because I enjoyed reading books as a kid. Spelling just seemed to be one of those things that I never had to work at.

Also was a spelling champ in grade school, and also a voracious reader, so it came easy to me as well.
I subscribe to my local paper for two reasons....News, and the misspelled news. The wife and I laugh on a daily basis.
Makes you wonder what paper the "proofreaders" are looking at. :lol2:

That's funny. I guess our papers have better editors. Either that or they have excellent spell-check software.
It always surprises me how many people can't spell. A high percentage of my coworkers (who are supposed to be educated professionals) wouldn't be able to win a fifth grade spelling contest. A lot of times when writing something up, they'll ask me how to spell a basic word and I'll look at them like "Are you serious?"
I got a pm at the Gear Page that was so illiterate that I seriously couldn't understand what the guy was asking or saying. Since it's a pm, I guess I shouldn't post it here but it is entertaining.
