Applaud/Smite/Karma
What the heck are they?
Just a little feature that has been added for fun. Whenever you click on Applaud/Smite underneath a person's avatar it will either award them karma or decrease their karma. I'm sure you can figure out which does which.  Strictly for fun!
Shoutbox/Chatroom
What are they? What's the difference? How do you use them?
The shoutbox is a little box at the bottom of the screen. You can post shouts to other members of the board. The page refreshes itself periodically to show new shouts.
You can get into the chat room by clicking on "chat room" at the top of your page where the options are. This will open up a new window, (probably want to make sure your popup blocker is off) where you can chat with others in the room. There really is no difference, except that only the people in the chat room can see the conversation, while anyone who logs onto the board can see the shouts.
Spoilers
Are they allowed? How do I post them?
On AW boards, spoilers are pretty much a way of life. So, when you wish to post a spoiler you can use the following code, and the spoiler will be placed in a hidden box, only readable when clicked. This is a much better way then the massive spaces that you have to scroll down to read. LOL
The code is (without spaces) ...
[ spoiler ] what you want to write [ / spoiler ]
OR- you can simply click on the spoiler button in your post options after highlighting the text you wish to place under spoilers.
