~~~Nettie, our pals at Netlflix put short wait in
my queue. I guess you bought your copy,
looks like I'll have to be patient during my "short wait"...
Yeah, I saw that "short wait" thing when I went in to remove it from my queue because I did end up buying it. I just couldn't wait. Now my DVD collection has officially grown to 3!!!
Okay, I jes gotta get this off my chest and then I will be done houndin' you guys with this movie ~
Now don't get me wrong, I am not complainin' about not seein' a whole lot of Linda in this movie ~ it's how she was used that is botherin' me. I think I have been blessed by all the many ways I can still see my fave actress ~ either on old shows, talk shows, QVC, her own updated website, YT. There are so many little things I find on YT with Linda that I don't share lest yee be bombarded (found this cute little LD snippet the other day ~ the interviewer asked her to cry on cue. She looked at him/her for a moment in silence then kinda squinted her eyes and said something like "I'm much better at this if you pay me" then winked and smiled. It was sooo funny).
Anyhoo, this is my little gripe about Linda's part in the movie AND IT'S A MAJOR SPOILER IN CASE YOU WANT TO WATCH FOR YOURSELF ~
Spoiler:
The screenplay was actually co-written by Director Terry George and the man who wrote the book (his name escapes me right now). In the book, the role that Linda plays ("Grandmother" is how she's credited in the movie but her name is Beth in the book) is not huge, but certainly much larger than in the movie. I don't even understand why they put the character in the movie if they were not going to use her in any way other than to show the audience that the little boy that was killed had a grandmother. The opportunity was there. There was a scene where Linda's daughter, played by Jennifer Connolly, was losin' it in the kitchen while Joaquin was tryin' to calm her down, Linda and granddaughter Elle Fanning came running and Linda kinda told Joaquin to take the granddaughter while she followed her daughter around the corner. AND THAT WAS IT!! I thought, okay, now we are gonna see the good stuff. And when it wasn't there, I thought, okay, maybe it ended up as a deleted scene. NUTTIN'!!! Excuse me, Terry George, but you have Linda Dano right there! She CAN do this!! Her daughter's heart is ripped out ~ the scene is already set up! Write a subsequent scene or at least put in the one from the book. Or have the daughter tell her mother to leave her alone ~ just have them have at least one LINE together. I just wanted to have one really good scene of mother and daughter together. Linda & Jennifer would have ROCKED.
Anyway, JMO ~ you know I think LD can walk on water.
No i had no clue you thought she could walk on water! LOL
It really looks like a great thought provoking movie. I just need to be in the mood for a real tear jerker mood to watch it. Iahve a really hard time with movies that deal with animal deaths and kid deaths. When Rescue me killed of the kid with a hit and run driver i was a wreck for weeks and i have a hard time watching the show with out remembering that epi. Of course i loved when the Grandfather in the show shot the driver in plane sight!
Why the movie didn't use LD;s full talents i have no clue! _________________
