From "The Ultimate Another World Trivia Book" by Gerard J. Waggett ~

Here are some of the odd jobs held by our AW alum:

Charles Keating (Carl Hutchins) used to be a hairdresser;

David Forsyth (John Hudson) has worked as a firefighter, paramedic and surgery technician;

Hank Cheyne (Scott LaSalle) earned his law degree and renews his membership with the bar association every year (Hmmmm....);

Les Brandt (Rafael Santiero) quit his job as a marine biologist due to his fear of sharks (can't blame him);

Sharon Gabet (Brittany Peterson) was a registered nurse;

Rhonda Lewin (Vicky Hudson) worked as a bridal consultant;

Jensen Buchanan (Vicky/Marley) was a camp counselor in Germany;

Larry Lau (Jamie Frame) met his agent while selling newspapers on the street in Hollywood;

Elain M. Graham (Etta Mae Burrell) has taught classes from the second grade through high school;

Mark Mortimer (Nick Hudson) supported himself as an electrician while breaking into modeling;

Grayson McCouch (Morgan Winthrop), inspired by the TV series Magnum PI, worked as a licensed private investigator;

Kevin Carrigan (Derek Dane) baked pies for a NY restaurants;

Charles Grant (Evan Bates) was a bouncer at the European disco, Regine's;

Brent Collins (Wallingford) was a book editor at Random House before breaking into acting;

David Hedison (Spencer Harrison) has worked as a door-to-door Fuller Brush salesman and has polished silver at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel;

Kim Rhodes (Cynthia Harrison) worked as a veterinarian assistant and her chores included neutering male cats, a skill she listed on her resume, which helped her land a role sight unseen  Shocked ;

George Reinholt (Steve Frame) took out ads in several newspapers, offering to escort women to parties, weddings, and Bingo.  He took offense when a national tabloid published an article portraying him as a gigolo.  Although Reinholt wanted to be paid for his time (ya think?), sex-for-hire was not part of the deal.

It is my understanding that the role of John Hudson was written specifically for Forsyth and based upon his real life experiences.

Did you know that he (briefly) dated Anne Heche when they were on the show together?  I remember them sitting together at the Daytime Emmys in 1989.  The camera focused on them (and Linda Dano) during Victoria Wyndham's wonderful tribute to Douglass Watson, who passed away a short time before the Emmys aired that year.
