Okay, first I'm going to state that I am a Jake fan and that I'm possibly going to hit a very touchy subject for some posters. I've been trying to figure out some issues with Jake after seeing some YouTube clips circa 1991 when JB took up the role of Marley. I'm going to just ask about the dynamic with Jake's feelings for Marley. Now, I'm going to state frankly that I have a really hard time with believing he did what happened in Oct '90, and the fact that Jake was still trying to "win" Marley back from Jamie in 1991 adds to my total confusion about it. Can there be any reasonable explanation as to why Jake felt that he still had a chance with her? If yes, why would he think that would be even a possibility with Marley? I'm going on the assumption that Jake wasn't crazy or suffering from a brain tumor, so if I'm going to believe what happened, actually happened, then why would the AW writers have Jake act as if he can still have Marley back, and state that he still loved her? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm having problems with the subsequent storyline because it appears as if the writers didn't know what direction to take after the whole shooting SL. I also want to add that I can believe angry Jake, and frustrated Jake, but I have a hard time believing violent Jake, especially towards someone who he claimed to love. I know it's not an easy topic, but I thought about the character's motivations (money, respect) and I couldn't reconcile it. Jake did wrong things for good reasons, so I'm trying to figure out the rationality, and found none. Any thoughts/insight on this?
~~~There are two s/l's I wish the writers had never
inflicted upon us. One is the lumina crap near the
end of the run, and the other is the distasteful *rape*
they made us endure.
We had other rape s/l's. I think both Lorna's & Courtney's were
handled better than the Jake/Marley debacle.
Personally, I found it much easier to 'believe' the '91 stuff
than I did the big blunder. Marley was still carrying her torch
for Jake when they both showed up in Oakdale. I believe it's
the reason she wanted to raise the twins.
The Vicky>Jake<Marley triad was never boring...always provocative...
and spawned thousands of posts on the boards. I just wish
tptw had exercised better judgement when they decided to
force Jake on Marley & the ill~fated s/l on us.
Wendy gurl back me up with what I am going to say here!
I agree the whole rape s/l was awful!
I also have a hard time truly believing he raped her. There are just too many reason not to believe it. Yu pointed out alot of them.
Also why would Vicky then go on to marry him if he really raped her sister? Why would Marley even look at him if he did wouldn't she stay clear of every aspect of Jake. I think at 1st maybe Marley thought it was rape because she was surprised he would want her after she ditched him but in the end I think Even Marley realized but never admitted it didn't happen. I just don't by Jake could be violent I just can't believe it. _________________
I thought the same thing when I saw that Marley AND Donna both made the beeline to get the twins.
I suppose their obsession with Jake played a bit part of them getting immediate custody of the girls.
It's hard to believe because Jake had no history of such behavior at all even when he was upset. I think that's what got to Jake fans the most, the fact that it was so out of character (especially seeing '85-'86 Jake). Jake was always tough, but very tender and sweet too, which was why Marley fell in love with him. So, yeah, it's not believable at all, even ruthless Jake wasn't cruel.
Cuz My Boy DIDN'T!!!!!!!!! God I hate dat s/l! It caused me more grief than anybody should ever have to face!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, Me luved defendin' JakeJake(and I only defended cuz I truley never saw it as Rape), but the writers really screwed up BIG TIME when they wrote dat story...UGH!!
Ya know all of this was Marley's fault! She is the one dat left town after flyin' into a hissy fit cuz she found out Vic tripped & fell into bed with my boy....Like she should care, she is the one dat was pushin' him away! Then she strolls back into thown thinkin' cuz it was the *Right Time for Her* she was gonna get her some more JakeJake...If she wudda jes stayed away, then maybe we cudda enjoyed more Big Donna & JakeJake! She jes had to come back..Then she left again & hooked up with Jamie(the cheatin' bitch), only to come back yet again for some more JakeJake...No wonder my boy's head was spinnin'!
DAMN MARLEY! Never in my life hated a character more!!! Nuttin' but a Freakin' Whiney Ass Bitch dat thinks it's her way or no way!
Obviously my focus was somewhere else during this s/l but I do remember it happening. What I don't remember is if Jake was actually charged with rape and whether or not there was a trial. I don't think there was either one. Wasn't Jake shot right after the alleged rape and then spent MONTHS in a coma? Was the whole thing just dropped after that?
Anyone know how TE felt during this s/l? I can't imagine he like it....
JakeJake never stood trail or was never in any kinda trouble cuz it wasn't rape! Don't ya think for one minute dat if Marley ever really thought JakeJake raped her, dat she wudda slapped his butt in jail so fast dat my Tommy luvin' head wudda spun off???
JakeJake got consulin' *off screen* the alleged rape....Never guess it was truely dropped cuz Marley rubbed it in my boy's face ever chance she got!
Tommy had mixed emotions aboput the s/l...He hated what they did to JakeJake but thought it did make for a kickass s/l!
Here's part of an interview, thanx to Eddie, where my boy talks a lil about it...Too Precious!
OMG!! TE is adorable!! I don't remember seeing him interviewed before (I'm sure I saw him on Attitudes but I don't remember it). I love how he mentioned LD and how she sez "I can't say this!" when she gets a look at the script and also fer mentionin' SS.
The rape was an *afterthought?* I don't blame TE fer thinkin' that he felt like he was betrayin' Jake.
Did I mention that yer boy is adorable?
