Two days later, Felicia is able to sit up in bed without effort. Wallingford, however, is suffering from full-blown influenza.
Cass enters Felicia’s hospital room, a strange expression on his face.
Felicia: You were certainly gone long enough! How’s Wally?
Cass: Somewhat better. His fever has gone down anyway.
Felicia: (relieved) Thank God! By the way, what was he mumbling before he passed out?
Cass tosses his head back and laughs.
Felicia: (annoyed) What’s so funny?
Cass: (choking back another laugh) I’m sorry. Wally was hallucinating from the fever. (snorts) Among other things, he thought we were dressed as Jeannie and Major Nelson!
Once again, Cass is in stitches . Felicia glares at him.
Felicia: Hallucinating?!! That’s nothing to laugh about, Cass Winthrop!
Cass: I said his fever’s gone down, didn’t I? He’s not hallucinating anymore, so just calm down!
Felicia gets a determined gleam in her eye.
Felicia: Help me up. I want to see him.
Cass hesitates.
Felicia: (shrieks) Now, Cass!
Knowing better than to argue with her, Cass helps Felicia to her feet. She’s still a bit woozy from her illness, so Cass sits her in a wheelchair and pushes her down the hallway to Wally’s hospital room.
When they reach Wally’s room, Wally is in bed resting. His face is pale and drawn. Felicia wheels close to him and takes his hand in hers.
Felicia: (softly) Wally?
Wally smiles as he opens his eyes. He can’t imagine a nicer way to wake up.
Wally: Hi, Felicia! Are you feeling better?
Felicia: Never mind me, honey. I’m more concerned about you.
Wally glances over at Cass, who is now standing next to Felicia.
Wally: (to Cass) I have a sneaking suspicion that I embarrassed myself in front of you two.
Cass: (smiles) It’s OK, Wally. Under the circumstances, I probably would’ve done the same thing myself.
Wally glances over at a box of hot cocoa mix on a nearby table.
Wally: (grins mischievously) And I think I may have proposed to the girl on the Swiss Miss box!
Felicia: (giggles) Oh, Wally! What am I going to do with you?
The telephone rings suddenly, startling the three friends. Cass picks up the receiver.
Cass: Hello? (pause) Wow! Just a moment. (puts his hand over the mouthpiece) Wally, it's for you...a Lady Ruby Witherspoon.
Wally nervously motions for Cass to bring him the telephone.
Wally: (thinking) Good grief! She's the last person in the world I want to talk to...but I need to talk to her! If I don't, I'll always wonder.
LOL! Wally proposed to the girl on the Swiss Miss box! Priceless!
It's so cool to see The Three Musketeers taking care of each other like this!
Now, what does that pesky Lady Ruby want? Wallingford told Wilberforce that he renounced his title, and that Wilberforce and Lady Ruby knew why...and now she's calling Wallingford again and he needs to talk to her, or he'll always wonder...wonder what?
