Location: Backing Up Cass and Frankie As They Battle Christy Carson

Posted: Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:43 pm    Post subject: This Week's Clips: November 1992; Cass and Frankie 1990 With
· Quote

Hey, everybody!

I finally got all of this week's clips uploaded. In November 1992, the search for Kevin, and the search for Lucas's killer, are both heating up; Frankie and Cass deal with Felicia and with Christy; Ryan and Steven's bond makes Vicky and Grant uncomfortable; and the fallout from the Jamie vs. Kelsey hearing continues. In January 1990, Cass and Frankie appear in Reuben's injury-induced dream, and regarding their own storyline, they continue to argue, Cass investigates Griffen Sanders even though Frankie, Zack, and Stacey all think he's just jealous (that's part of it, but it's not the whole thing), and Griffen's true colors start to emerge. I can't get a connection to the board, but I'll post there when I can. Thanks to Janie for the November 1992 scenes. Enjoy! Very Happy

Amy

Iris, Hank, and Dr. Beckett--There's Always Reason to Hope

Iris checks in with Dr. Beckett at the hospital. They are short staffed with Jamie being out on suspension, and Beckett vents to Iris about the scramble to cover Jamie's caseload, and the hits that discipline and morale have taken. Beckett tells Iris that not everyone blames Kelsey, but when she cried discrimination, it made it look like Beckett didn't deserve the job every bit as much as she did because she had a point to me, even though he DID deserve the job every bit as much as she did. Beckett agrees to give a statement of support if Iris goes to the board and attempts to have Jamie reinstated. Beckett has Tommy's latest test results, and when Hank arrives, Beckett goes over them with Hank and Iris. It's hard to say how long Tommy will survive; all the doctors can do is try new medication and make him comfortable. Iris says that Tommy hasn't given up and neither should they. Look at how thrilled Tommy was to be at Dean's concert. Hank says Tommy never should have left the hospital. Beckett says Tommy's numbers are slightly better today, and there's always reason to hope, even in the most severe cases. Sometimes it can make the difference between giving up and going on. Beckett leaves then to examine Tommy. Hank tells Iris he doesn't really feel better, though; he keeps wanting to do more, like he's missing the one thing that will make this disease disappear. Iris tells Hank that he's done all that he can do, and he has to keep on doing it, and urges him not to start telling himself he's failing Tommy because he's not. Hank says that Tommy's going to die without having done so many things, and how is Hank supposed to help him with that? Iris replies that Hank should tell Tommy he loves him, although Tommy already knows that. That's helped all of them at one time or another. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jamie and Rachel--Taking Responsibility for Our Actions

Rachel is still angry at Jake for the videotape and blames him for Jamie's suspension from the hospital, but Jamie points out that what Jamie did to Kelsey was not Jake's fault, nor was it the board's fault. They are all responsible for their own actions. What Jamie did to Kelsey was wrong, and he can admit that and go on. Jake may have trouble doing that. Rachel tells Jamie not to give Jake credit for a conscience he doesn't have. Rachel asks if Jamie is going to let Jake get away with ruining Jamie's career and keeping Jamie from doing what he does best. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Paulina and Jake--Who's Getting Bugged This Time?

Jake listens to a radio news report about Kevin's flight from the police and the statewide manhunt underway for him. Paulina arrives home early because Felicia cancelled her show for the day, and she finds Jake with the listening equipment to the bug he put in Kevin's car and angrily asks Jake whose life he's trying to ruin this time. Paulina then denounces herself as an idiot for trusting Jake because he'll never change. She asks if that's the same bug he planted in her bedroom last year to prove she wasn't a Cory and to blackmail her into marriage? Jake swears it's different this time, but Paulina retorts that it's not: it's Jake getting exactly what he wants and to hell with everyone else. Jake doesn't care who gets burned: Jamie, Paulina's family, Paulina herself. Jake insists he's not the same old Jake, and he loves Paulina. Paulina asks who's getting bugged this time. Jake replies that Lorna begged him to help her. Paulina says she would have bought tickets to THAT show. Jake insists that Lorna wants him to help her find Kevin. Paulina scoffs at this, reminding Jake that Jake wants to nail Kevin, and Lorna wants to protect Kevin. She accuses Jake of blackmailing Lorna into spying on Kevin. Jake admits that he wanted Kevin to hang and he bugged Kevin's car for evidence, but Lorna convinced Jake to help her try to find Kevin before the police do. Paulina asks Jake if he thinks she's stupid. He's going after Kevin the same way he went after Jamie, same old game, same old Jake. Jake doesn't quit until the other man's destroyed. But Paulina says this time, she's not watching anymore. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan and Steven Return Home From the Playground to Find Vicky and Grant

Vicky and Grant surprise Bridget by leaving work to come to Vicky's house and tell Steven that they are engaged. It's a surprise to Bridget because Steven isn't home--he's at the playground with Ryan. Ryan had the day off and had promised to visit Steven, and he never lets Steven down. Bridget didn't think Vicky would ever worry about it because Vicky knows how much Steven loves Ryan, and how inseparable they are. Bridget remarks that these modern relationships are difficult at times, and especially confusing for children. When Victoria grew up, she didn't even have a father, but Steven will have so many, Bridget wonders how he'll keep track. Bridget excuses herself, and Vicky and Grant agree that they're fine and this isn't awkward...but then Grant asks Vicky if she thinks she can handle Ryan in their lives. Ryan and Steven return from the playground then, all charged up about playing soccer since they had so much fun doing it, and Ryan is telling Steven that they can play soccer whenever Steven wants when Ryan notices Grant and Vicky sitting on the couch and trails off into silence. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass & Frankie 1992--Flirting, a Frantic Felicia, and Enter Christy

Cass is in a flirty, playful mood and wants Frankie to play hooky with him today and cancel on Christy, who's going shopping with Frankie for her wedding dress today, but Frankie tells Cass she can't cancel because they're going shopping for Frankie's wedding dress. What does Cass want Frankie to do, walk down the aisle in the nude? Cass says there's an idea: they could have a Garden of Eden wedding. When Frankie says she's been getting vibes all morning, Cass replies that it's just the primal goddess urging Frankie to come back to bed with Cass. But Frankie says that someone close is hurting. When the doorbell rings, Cass grabs hold of Frankie and follows her to the door as he asks her to tell Christy they'll shop tomorrow. It isn't Christy, though; it's Felicia, who is frantic about not being able to get a hold of Lorna. Felicia explains how Kevin is now a suspect in Luke's murder, and that he fled when the police went to his apartment with a search warrant, but they found a gun that matches the bullet they took out of Luke. Felicia talked to Lorna last night, but she hasn't been able to reach her yet this morning, and she just knows that Lorna has gone after Kevin and is fearful that Kevin might hurt Lorna. Frankie says that she worked with Kevin during Kelsey's hearing and never got any bad vibes whatsoever from him. Cass says this is beyond vibes, this is incontrovertible evidence, and points out that Ryan discovered that Kevin had the night court docket forged to make it look like he was in court the night Lucas was killed. Frankie says that doesn't mean Kevin is guilty. Felicia asks why Kevin would run if he isn't guilty. Frankie says maybe Lorna knows something they don't, a good reason to believe in Kevin. The doorbell rings again. This time it's Christy. Cass tells Frankie to go ahead on the shopping trip with Christy, and he will take care of Felicia, but Frankie says no. Frankie introduces Christy and Felicia, but they tell Frankie and Cass about the day they saw each other at TOPS with Ryan. Frankie tells Christy that Ryan is one of her best friends. Christy says it's a small world that's getting smaller. Frankie wants to bag the shopping trip, but Felicia insists they go because it's important, and Frankie and Cass have to finally make this legal. Cass and Felicia explain that Felicia will be Cass's best man, and Cass is always Felicia's maid of honor. Christy has a list of every bridal shop from here to Chicago. Frankie asks if Felicia is sure about this, and Felicia says yes because someone in this group needs to be happy, and there's never a bad day for shopping. Cass wishes Frankie happy hunting. After Frankie and Christy leave, Felicia tries to call Lorna again, but Cass stops her and tells her that maybe Lorna is trying to get away from her. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie Appear in Reuben's Dream, 1990

This doesn't actually have anything to do with the current 1990 storyline for Cass and Frankie, but I kept it and decided to post it because even though certain elements of this fantasy of Reuben's are corny (the Michael Jackson lookalike, for one thing), Cass and Frankie are in it, and Reuben actually has them together as a couple in this fantasy. (I knew I always liked him.) Other familiar faces appearing are Vicky (Anne Heche), Zack Edwards, and Reuben's sister and brother Ronnie and Jesse Lawrence (Jesse being the one who thanks Reuben for letting him invite the entire sophomore class of BCU to the party). This dream happened after Reuben, who thought he needed to be rich to be happy and get the girl of his dreams, Tess, was hit over the head and left unconscious in a warehouse on the docks while trying to intercept some stolen merchandise to fence so he could make the profits from it. (This is why Tess says in the dream, "You lied and cheated and stole for me.")

Cass Appears in Reuben's Dream, 1990--Part 2

Reuben's dream turns into a nightmare after he loses Tess and all of his money. Cass appears as a scientist, a French waiter, and a chauffeur, and the dream ends when Reuben returns to the neighborhood where he grew up and learns that his brother Jesse, who worked his way through college, is the Lawrence boy who made good, and not Reuben himself.

Cass and Felicia 1990--The Rough Times Are Here Now

This picks up right where we left off with Cass and Frankie in 1990 last week. Cass goes to Felicia's for breakfast and learns that Mitch is now sleeping on the couch because Felicia tried to throw him out on account of his interest in Rachel, only Mitch wouldn't go. Felicia tells Cass she isn't even sure she has a marriage anymore. Cass feels badly that he's been so caught up in his own stuff that he hasn't been there for Felicia. Felicia tells Cass that she doesn't really want Mitch to leave; she wants Mitch to love her like he did before, but she doesn't think that's possible. Cass asks why Mitch refused to leave when Felicia asked him to. She replies that he told her he would end things with Rachel and work it out with Felicia, but Felicia is pushing Mitch away with both hands. Cass encourages Felicia to work things out with Mitch and tells her she's not thinking straight because she's hurt, but adds that he's not excusing what Mitch did. Felicia tells Cass she thought she'd get support from him. Cass tells Felicia she has all his support. "Oh, I'm sorry," Felicia says sarcastically. "I just keep flashing on you staring into Cecile's eyes lovingly."

"You think I'm just saying this because I did an even dumber thing than Mitch did?" Cass asks.

"At least Mitch picked somebody like Rachel!" Felicia retorts. "When I think of you and that Countess from Bayonne, God help Frankie!"

Cass thinks Felicia is angry at him too. Felicia says she's not, but she doesn't want Cass to say that Felicia should stay with Mitch just to make himself feel better. Cass assures Felicia that's not the case, and that he hates to see any two good people not being able to work things out. "You mean like you and Frankie?" Felicia asks. Cass tells Felicia that he thinks he's lost Frankie for good. Then he tells Felicia that she and Mitch took a vow to stick together and work it out through the rough times, and the rough times are here now. So is she going to walk away? Felicia says she's tried to tell Mitch how she feels, and Cass tells her to try harder. Felicia asks if Cass has told Frankie. Cass asks Felicia if she wants a waffle in the face, and reminds her they're talking about her. Felicia promises to think about what Cass said. Cass has to get going then, and so does Felicia, who has planned a shopping trip to indulge in some retail therapy. Cass says he'll have to call all the shop owners on Bay Drive and warn them to hire extra personnel. Felicia tells Cass she needs a hug before he leaves, so the best friends hug. Cass asks Felicia what she would do without him. Felicia asks Cass if he's sure the credit card companies didn't send him over there. Cass tells Felicia that they give him ten percent, and the friends laugh together.

Frankie & Cass 1990--Whenever I Try to Center Myself, You Always Throw Me Off

Frankie is at home trying to center herself, but she can't concentrate because she can't stop thinking about kissing Cass. Then Cass shows up. Frankie tells him she's trying to center herself. He apologizes for interrupting but tells her it won't take long. "Whenever I try to center myself, you always throw me off!" Frankie tells Cass.

"Well, the feeling's mutual, you know?" Cass replies.

Frankie tells Cass that she's starting on a new path now and doesn't want or need all these conversations about the past. Cass says neither does he; he's there to pick up the surveillance equipment that was bought with the law office's money because there's no reason to keep an eye on Lucas anymore, and certainly not from Frankie's living room, so if Frankie will get Cass the equipment, Cass will get out of her life forever.

Frankie & Cass 1990--All I Want Is Inner Peace

Cass starts gathering up the surveillance equipment, but when he picks up a car bug, he and Frankie start bickering over whose it is: Frankie insists she bought it months ago and never had the chance to put it in Lucas's limo, and Cass insists that it's his and demands to see a receipt. Frankie asks Cass if he has a receipt for the car bug and accuses him of being cheap. The argument continues until Frankie suddenly trails off and realizes that she's yelling and ranting and raving about a car bug. All she wants is inner peace, so what is she doing ranting and raving? Cass apologizes. Frankie tells him it's not his fault. She can't allow herself to get upset by trivial things. Cass tells Frankie she can have the bug, and Frankie starts to get angry again, telling Cass he doesn't get it. Cass offers to take the bug with him since it upsets Frankie so much. Frankie says it's not the bug, it's Cass. Cass upsets her so much because she can't have a normal conversation with him. Cass tells Frankie that the fact that she can't have a normal conversation with him is his fault and apologizes. Frankie asks if this is some sort of new strategy. Cass tells her it's not and that he hopes she'll be happy with her choreographer. Frankie says she's not with anybody, and Griffen is more than a choreographer. He's a bright and decent man. Cass angrily says that Griffen is an artistic type and you can't trust artistic types. They have a woman in every city. Frankie retorts that Cass would know about that. The phone rings, and Cass tells Frankie to answer it. It's Griffen, and Frankie tells him that she's bored stiff and talking to the walls and she'd like to see him too and now is a very good time so she'll see him in a few minutes. Cass tells Frankie that if she wants to ruin her life, go ahead. Frankie looks heavenward and asks inner peace to kick in. Cass tells her that if she thinks Griffen is more of a bargain than him, she needs a lot more than inner peace. Then he trips on the extension cord and falls on his face at Frankie's face (I'm not sure if this was an accidental trip on Stephen Schnetzer's part, because he got tangled in the cord, and they just left it in, or if it was scripted, but it really adds to the moment.) Cass picks himself up and tells Frankie he'll send someone else back to get the rest of the equipment. Frankie tries to hide her grin at the fact that Cass tripped and fell after ranting and raving about Griffen, but she has a pensive look on her face after Cass is gone.

Cass and Zack Investigate Griffen Sanders, 1990

Cass returns to the law office and asks Zack if there's any news about Reuben (his family reported him missing while he was unconscious in the warehouse, but they did find him, not shown). There isn't. Cass then changes the subject: if not for Griffen, Cass and Frankie would have a chance to work their problems out, so Cass has a plan. Zack doesn't like the tone in Cass's voice, but Cass insists that Zack help him with his plan. They're going to the library to do some research on Griffen, and Cass has a feeling that it won't take long to get enough information to prove to Frankie that Griffen's not the man she thinks he is. At the library, Cass tells Zack that Griffen is dangerous. Cass doesn't know how or why, but he can smell it. Zack doesn't think Cass is going to find anything, but Cass tells Zack that he just found what he's looking for. Cass and Zack then return to the law office, where Zack complains about having spent two hours in a library with Cass, and with Zack's allergies. Cass insists that he has proof that Griffen isn't what he says he is, but Zack disagrees and suggests that Cass just tell Frankie that he's jealous that she's dating another guy. Cass scoffs at this, but Zack warns Cass that Cass is going to hassle Frankie to the point that she won't even speak to him. Cass is ready to rush out the door and warn Frankie, but Zack wants Cass to be realistic. Cass is going to tell Frankie that the guy she's dating is a thief because he found a review of Griffen Sanders on the same page as a report about a jewel theft in Monte Carlo? Cass insists that there's a link. He believes that Griffen is the thief and that he scaled the building from the outside because there was no forced entry, and only someone agile and balletic, light on their feet, could pull this off. Zack thinks Cass has a few screws loose, but Cass insists that it's his duty to warn Frankie. Zack tells Cass if he's so sure that Griffen is bad news, Zack will really help him prove it, but don't go to Frankie with this theory and risk total humiliation. Cass insists he has to go now, though, and that Frankie can take the information or leave it, but she's got to know right away, and he heads off to tell her, leaving Zack alone and exasperated in the office. (Further proof Cass is in love with Frankie: the thought of total humiliation didn't even register with him! Atta boy, Cass!)

Frankie Is Taken Aback by Griffen Sanders, 1990

Frankie visits Griffen at the spa, and they dance. She then thanks Griffen for seeing her home, but is taken aback when he tells her the evening isn't over yet and walks right into her apartment even though she didn't invite him. And Cass has yet to arrive, but is on his way!

Cass Crashes Frankie's Date With Griffen Sanders, 1990

Griffen's true motive in getting into Frankie's apartment is to snoop so that he can see if she has anything on him, but Frankie doesn't pick up on this. While Frankie is getting them drinks, Griffen looks out the living room window and remarks aloud to himself on the view, which is straight into Lucas's apartment. When Frankie returns, Griffen asks her if she decorated the apartment herself. She tells him no, it came furnished. Griffen asks why she took it if it's so uncomfortable. Frankie replies that at the time, it served its purpose, and it's not that bad a place, really. There are good memories here. But Frankie doesn't want to talk about the past. Griffen then asks what Frankie does, since she mentioned she's out of work. Frankie tells Griffen that she's a licensed private investigator. He asks if that's what she did for Lucas, and she says no, it wasn't. She worked for Lucas because he treated her as an equal, and the time came to move on, so she did. So, Griffen concludes, Frankie is between jobs and men at the moment. Frankie says she's definitely between men, and she hopes the job situation will be easier to fix. Frankie gets nervous when Griffen wants to dim the lights, explaining that she's out of candles because she had a seance recently, and every button you push conjures up bordello-like lighting, but Griffen dims the lights anyway. Then Griffen starts talking a good game about wanting to be in one place and develop a real relationship with someone special, which impresses Frankie, who tells him that most guys don't talk like that and it's nice to hear a guy talk like that. Griffen asks how most guys talk, and Frankie says not like that. Griffen says he made the right decision, and then he kisses Frankie.

And that's when Cass arrives and starts pounding on the door, yelling out to Frankie that he knows she's in there and if she doesn't open the door, he's going to kick it in, which stops Frankie from kissing the creepy Griffen.

Cass & Frankie 1990--Griffen Is Bad News. I'm Trying to Help You.

Frankie yells at Cass to go away, because she's busy. He yells back, "Well, get UNbusy, Mary Frances!" and tells her that he has something to show her. She goes to the door and lets him in and when he sees Griffen in her living room, he tells her he has to talk to her alone and in private. Cass then pulls Frankie into the hallway to talk. Frankie is not happy at the interruption. Cass tells Frankie that he has every reason to believe that Griffen Sanders is using dancing as a cover for being a big-time class A thief of precious stones and art. Frankie tells Cass that if he's trying to drive her crazy, he's succeeding. He gives her the article he got at the library about the jewel theft in Monte Carlo to read. Meanwhile, Griffen continues to snoop through Frankie's apartment, and when he finds her file on Catherine March (Lucas's dead assistant, who Griffen killed the previous fall) and the notes Frankie made about finding out who killed Catherine if it wasn't Lucas, and he damns Frankie. Back in the hallway, Frankie crumples up the article and thanks Cass for pointing out that one of the most famous dancers in the world is waiting for her in her apartment. Cass asks her how she can ignore the facts: Griffen is a cat burglar and is who knows what else. Frankie says that Griffen has the patience of a saint for waiting for her while her ex-boyfriend makes an ass of himself in her hallway. Cass is touched and asks Frankie if she really thinks of him that way. She replies that she's always thought of him as an ass. Cass was referring to the boyfriend part. Frankie says that she should have said her ex-whatever. Cass tells Frankie that Griffen is bad news and Cass is trying to help Frankie. Frankie tells Cass to stay out of her life, and if he bangs on her door again, she'll call the cops, and storms back inside. Cass leaves. Frankie apologizes for the interruption, then says she's not feeling very social anymore. Griffen isn't angry, which surprises Frankie. Griffen tells Frankie that he wants to learn everything there is to know about her and he's willing to wait. He kisses her and leaves. After he's gone, Frankie flops down on the couch, pulls the crumpled article from Cass out of her pocket, and wonders aloud why Cass can't just leave her alone.

Cass and Frankie Hurt Each Other's Feelings, 1990

Cass returns to Frankie's apartment after Griffen has left. Frankie was just about to take a shower, but Cass tells her it'll have to wait. He tells her that he's really worried about her. Frankie tells Cass to stay out of her life--stop worrying about her, stop following her around, stop thinking about her, just stop. Cass asks why Frankie won't listen to him about Griffen. Frankie yells back that she and Cass are not involved and they're not even friends. This hurts Cass, who asks Frankie twice if she really means that, he's so surprised and hurt. She says she does mean it. Cass tells Frankie not to come running to him when things get tough because he won't be waiting, and her pride is going to get her into trouble. Frankie tells Cass to leave, so he does. But a few seconds later, she has a change of heart, rushes to the door, and goes into the hall, yelling, "Cass, wait!" But he's already gone, and she starts to cry.

Cass Continues to Look Out for Frankie, and Talks With Stacey, 1990

Despite the hurt feelings he both gave and received in his argument with Frankie the night before, Cass isn't giving up on proving to Frankie that Griffen is bad news. Stacey interrupts Cass as he's working on something involving a map of Europe and several other papers, and he hurriedly shoves the whole mess under the desk and refuses to tell her about it. He does tell her that he has decided that he and Frankie are completely incompatible, but that doesn't mean he wants to see Frankie thrown to the wolves. Griffen Sanders is bad news, and Cass is going to prove that to Frankie. Stacey's reaction is on the same par as Zack's and Frankie's--that Cass is jealous because Frankie's dating another man. Cass insists that's not it. Stacey asks what Cass is working on, and Cass says he can't tell Stacey until he's told Frankie. Stacey then tells Cass about her own relationship troubles with Derek, compounded by the fact that Jamie kissed her the other night, and she and Derek are fighting all the time. Cass says that fighting all the time is not a good sign, and that while he's gotten used to having Derek around, he never in his wildest imaginings thought Stacey would wind up with someone like Derek. Also, Cass comments that Stacey is more at ease around Jamie. Stacey says that's because she likes Jamie, but the problem is that she loves Derek. Cass asks why that's the problem.

Frankie Tells Sharlene She's Dreaming About Cass--Cass Arrives to See Frankie, 1990

At the farm, Frankie interrupts Sharlene and John's prolonged newlywed-ish goodbye and looks on with a sad smile as they share a final kiss at the front door before John heads to the hospital after telling Sharlene to meet him there at 3:00. After John leaves, Frankie brings a tray with a pot of tea and all the fixings to the living room, but Sharlene is preoccupied looking at a photo album and doesn't answer Frankie. Frankie finally asks what's going on; Sharlene is acting much weirder than usual. Sharlene tells Frankie that she fainted in John's arms last night. This instantly alarms Frankie, who asks why. Sharlene says they don't know, and John is worried. Frankie asks if that's why Sharlene is meeting John at the hospital, and Sharlene replies it is; John wants her to have some tests run. Frankie asks what could be wrong, and Sharlene doesn't know but says she hopes it's something physical because she's been acting so strange lately. She tells Frankie she hasn't felt like this in a long, long time. Frankie notices Sharlene looking at a photo of Janice in the album. Sharlene says she can't stop looking at that picture of Janice; there's something about Janice's eyes. Frankie is horrified that Sharlene thinks she might be crazy like Janice. Sharlene says it's a fact that the women in their family have never been too stable. Frankie retorts that she is as a steady as a rock. Sharlene clarifies that she was referring to matters with men and love, not general stability. Sharlene says that she is so happy with John, maybe she feels like she doesn't deserve that happiness. Frankie says if Sharlene doesn't deserve it, who does? Sharlene counters by asking Frankie if that isn't the reason she broke off with Cass. Frankie says she broke off with Cass because he's a jerk, and she's already met somebody much better. Sharlene knows it's Griffen Sanders and asks Frankie how that's going. Frankie replies that it would be going much better if she wasn't dreaming about Cass all the time. Sharlene says that proves that Frankie is still crazy about Cass. Frankie insists that's not it; she can't stand Cass, and if she never sees him again, it'll be much too soon. Frankie then answers the knock at the front door of the farm, and it's Cass. Sharlene, bless her, tells Cass it's good to see him and ignores Frankie when Frankie tells her not to leave and heads off to see John at the hospital. After Sharlene leaves, Frankie asks Cass why he's there. He tells her he's there because of Griffen Sanders. Griffen is a dangerous man. Frankie doesn't want to get into that again, but Cass insists that this time it's different, because this time he has proof, and he holds up his briefcase.

Cass & Frankie 1990--You're Too Sharp to Ignore Something Like This

Frankie asks Cass what his proof is, and he produces the map of Europe he was working on at his office when Stacey came in. Cass shows Frankie the map: every red dot signifies a European city where Griffen performed...and every blue dot indicates a European city where a major art theft took place. There are both red and blue dots scattered all over the map: Paris, Madrid, London, Amsterdam, Rome. Every date coincides as well; Cass researched everything. Frankie thinks this is the most pathetic attempt to nail somebody that she's ever seen. Cass tells Frankie that she's too sharp to ignore something like this. Frankie thinks that Cass is only using is the most flimsy of circumstantial evidence, and that Cass is just trying to get between Frankie and Griffen because Frankie wouldn't buy Cass's line. Cass insists that Griffen is a dangerous criminal. Frankie retorts that if she were going out with a bank teller, Cass would tell her that he was responsible for the savings and loan crisis. Cass insists his interest is strictly professional, and Frankie's the one who's making it personal. Frankie angrily tells Cass not to turn this around on her. Cass says he doesn't care if he never sees Frankie again, but he still has enough residual feeling for Frankie to not want to see her get involved with a sociopath. Frankie blurts out that Cass just wants to get back together with her. "Are you saying that you and me are gonna get back together again?" Cass asks.

"It'll never happen, so don't worry about it," Frankie says.

"Oh, forget--I'm not worried about it!" Cass says.

"Well, neither am I!" Frankie replies.

(Notice how deeply in denial they both are here.)

Cass says that talking to Frankie is like...it's like talking to Frankie. If Frankie wants to go out with a criminal, that's fine with Cass. So be it. But Cass tells Frankie that for someone with a genius IQ, she can really be dumb sometimes. Frankie slams the door after Cass leaves, totally frustrated.

Frankie Tries to Look at Cass's Map, But Griffen Interrupts, 1990

After Cass leaves, Frankie decides to take a closer look at the map, but is interrupted when there's a knock at Sharlene and John's front door. She stashes the map in the fireplace and answers the door. It's Griffen. While Frankie goes to get him some tea, Griffen finds the map in the fireplace. He returns it to its hiding place before Frankie returns with the tea. Then Griffen asks Frankie to be his date to the upcoming gala where he's performing, explaining that there's a party afterwards. She accepts the date, and Griffen tells her he'll call her about the gala and then leaves.
