Location: Backing Up Cass and Frankie As They Battle Christy Carson

Posted: Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:52 pm    Post subject: This Week's Clips: January 1993, and 1990 Cass and Frankie (
· Quote

Hey, everybody!

Here are this week's clips. From January 1993, Jake makes a deal with Vicky, who's on the lam (starting a pattern during her relationship with Grant?); Ryan and Brett spend a long evening together; Lorna tells off Jake, then offers him a job; and Dean and Jenna, and Matt and Lorna, discuss Jenna's pregnancy.

From 1990, a major milestone, as Cass and Frankie finally say "I love you" to each other for the first time, and in between their respective declarations of love, there's thumb-wrestling, stargazing, kissing, hugging, one ecstatic best friend (Felicia), a goodbye (to Zack Edwards), and a very eventful dinner party (at John and Sharlene's). Very Happy

Thanks to Janie for the 1993 scenes.

Enjoy! Very Happy

Vicky Sneaks Out to Sassy's, Ryan and Brett Return to Sassy's

Having successfully persuaded Marley to take her place at a press conference with Grant, Vicky sneaks out to Sassy's for a cheeseburger and some time away from the Harrison political machine. She blows off the same guy that Christy Carson was dancing with earlier until Ryan scared her away, but then panics when Ryan and Brett return from a topless coffee bar and runs for the ladies' room when she sees them. Ryan doesn't see her, but Brett does, and follows her. Brett and Vicky talk, and Vicky asks Brett not to tell Ryan that Vicky is there and blow her cover. Brett muses that Vicky is a lot different than Brett expected. Vicky replies that she knows she keeps all the gossip columns in the country busy, but Brett's not going to tell Ryan that Vicky's there, is she? Brett says that depends on what's in it for her. Vicky asks what Brett wants, and Brett wants an answer to a question: why did Vicky dump on Ryan? What happened between them? Vicky says she and Ryan weren't compatible. "How so?" Brett wants to know. Vicky says they just saw things differently. "But you loved him, right?" Brett asks. Vicky wonders why Brett is so curious. Brett says that she and Ryan have sort of become friends, despite the fact that Ryan is impossible. Then Vicky wants to know how Brett knows Ryan. Brett explains that Ryan owns the building she lives in and she works for Ryan now. She tells Vicky that it was very difficult for Ryan when Ryan and Vicky broke up, and Brett would like to see Ryan get on with his life. Ryan's a really good guy and he could make some woman very happy. Vicky asks if Brett has some particular woman in mind. "Not exactly," Brett replies. Then she tells Vicky that Vicky's secret is safe with her, and she'll get Ryan out of Sassy's so Vicky can have that burger. Vicky tells Brett that Brett doesn't have to do that for Vicky. Brett assures Vicky she's not doing it for Vicky--she's doing it for herself. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Lorna and Jake--You Decided to Throw Loyalty Over for a Cheap Meal Ticket

Jake brings Sloane Wallace, the producer from the KBAY/Cory Publishing Christmas party, to meet Lorna at D&M, but Lorna is not impressed, making it clear to Sloane right off the bat that she has no use for her. After Sloane goes to wait in the car for Jake, Jake gets on Lorna's case, asking her if she could have been more rude. "Probably," Lorna replies. Jake says that he and Sloane work side by side. Lorna replies that Jake used to work side by side with Felicia, and when push came to shove, Jake decided to throw loyalty over for a cheap meal ticket. Jake tells Lorna that in a couple of months, Felicia will have her show back and everything will be back normal. Lorna tells Jake to open his eyes, then asks why Lorna called him over. Lorna tells Jake that she wants him to do another video for Dean since he did such a great job with "Ladykiller." Jake is surprised to learn that Lorna is working with Dean again, but Lorna assures him that she is, for better or worse. Jake asks what the catch is. Lorna replies there's no catch. Jake tells Lorna he'll think about it, and Lorna warns him not to play hard to get because she's had it up to here with egos. Jake asks if Jenna knows that Lorna is working with Dean again. Lorna replies that the great thing about Jenna and Dean is that they don't keep secrets from each other, so of course Jenna knows. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jenna Tells Dean That She's Pregnant

When Dean demands to know why Jenna's going to the clinic, she finally tells him that she's pregnant. Dean is stunned, but his shock quickly turns to hurt and anger when he learns that Matt knew before he did. Dean asks if he's the kid's father. Jenna can't believe that Dean would think something like that, let alone say it. Dean asks what he's supposed to think when Jenna tells him she's pregnant and the first person she tells is Matt. Dean doesn't appreciate being lied to. Jenna says she never lied to him. Matt tries to butt in to the argument and Dean tells him to stay out of it. Dean reminds Jenna that he just asked her that afternoon if anything was wrong. Jenna says it wasn't the right time. Dean asks when the right time is, when the kid is graduating from college? Dean then wants to know when Matt found out. It turns out that Matt found out a week ago when he saw Jenna buying a pregnancy test at the drug store. Dean tells Matt he wants to hear the rest of it from Jenna, Matt leaves, and Dean tells Jenna to tell him the rest of the story. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jenna and Dean Argue About Her Pregnancy

Jenna tells Dean this isn't exactly the way she wanted to tell him about it. The dinner she was planning was the way she wanted to tell him. She emphasizes that she went to the drug store alone to buy the pregnancy test, Matt showed up, and that's how Matt found out. Jenna didn't even take the test until yesterday morning. Dean asks why she waited so long. Jenna says she thought if she waited a couple of days, maybe something...but what difference does that make? She's pregnant, she's positive. Dean asks if Jenna sees how easy that was just now, what she just said. Jenna replies that she didn't want to bother Dean; he's been so busy working with Lorna and trying to cut a deal with Star Records, and she didn't know if it was for sure anyway. She's still not completely sure. That's why she wanted to go to the clinic tonight: to take a pregnancy test through the hospital. Dean asks how this happened. Jenna replies that she remembered that she didn't take her pill a couple of days around Christmas. Dean reminds her that they talked about this, and they both went down and got blood tests and decided that The Pill would be best for them. Dean asks how something like that slips your mind. Jenna asks why Dean is doing this to her; does he have any idea what she's been going through the last few days? Dean explodes that he doesn't know because Jenna didn't share it with him. Jenna explodes right back that she was taught all her life that what she and Dean are doing, sex before marriage, is a sin, and then she met Dean and things changed, she changed, and now she's being punished for it. Dean says he doesn't know what to tell Jenna. He came home tonight expecting a simple... He then throws the bouquet of flowers and the gift in its box on the table in front of Jenna and says that he thought he did something wrong, that he forgot an anniversary or something. Jenna apologizes and says she knows she should have told Dean sooner. Upset, Dean says that he and Jenna always said they were gonna be open and honest with each other no matter what, and he thought that they were different than everybody else out there. Jenna says they are, and Dean asks how she can say that when she keeps something like this from him? Maybe they're not as close as Dean thought they were. Jenna implores Dean to try and understand. She didn't want to come to him until she knew for sure. Dean is upset that she went to Matt, her ex-boyfriend. Jenna tearfully says that she didn't want to mess things up for Dean; his career already crashed once because of her, and she can't let that happen again. Dean says he's sick of hearing that and asks Jenna if she thought he'd fall apart and not be able to handle this. Jenna accuses Dean of having a bruised ego because Matt found out before he did. Dean then says he has nothing to say and walks out, and Jenna is left standing in the doorway in tears. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Sloane Leaves Jake Behind When He Can't Get in to See Vicky

Jake tries to impress Sloane by taking her to Spencer's mansion and assuring her that they don't need an appointment to get in to see Vicky because he and Vicky are old buds. Sloane has doubts, but the butler won't let Jake in to see Vicky, claiming that Jake isn't on Vicky's receiving list. While Jake has the butler check personally with Vicky, he assures Sloane that it's a done deal, that he and Sloane will get in to see Vicky and that Jake knows Vicky better than Sloane's research analysts, so he can get the interview. Sloane tells Jake that if he gets this story, Sloane will take good care of him. The butler returns and tells Jake that Vicky said she has no desire to see him. Jake winds up sitting on his butt on the ground as he tells Sloane there's obviously been some mistake. Sloane agrees, says she's looking at it, and walks away. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake Finds Vicky at Sassy's

Vicky finally gets to savor her cheeseburger in peace at Sassy's, but the peace is short-lived when Jake arrives and realizes that it's Vicky. He asks her what's going on and why she wouldn't see him at Spencer's. She tells him she wasn't there. Well, she amends, she was, but she wasn't. She explains how she snuck out of Spencer's house and got Marley to take her place at the press conference, since the starched lace and fine china life is more Marley's cup of tea than Vicky's, and Vicky really needed a break. Jake orders his own food, then tells Vicky that Grant is going to tar and feather her for her disappearing act, and what did she expect, hooking up with a man who wants to be President of the United States? It's only going to get worse. Vicky complains that it's like Alcatraz, and she can't even take a shower by herself. Jake asks since when showering by herself has been a problem for her. Vicky tells Jake to just eat his own food, and that things will get better when she and Grant are married. Jake will only keep Vicky's secret if she gives him an exclusive on her upcoming wedding. Vicky asks Jake if he thinks she's an idiot. "Only for marrying Grant," Jake replies. He insists that Vicky sign a contract. Vicky asks Jake if he trusts her. "Do you really want me to answer that?" Jake asks. "Nothing personal." Vicky signs on the dotted line. When Jake tells her he could kiss her, she stops him and says she's been there, done that. Jake is ecstatic. But who's the mysterious man that follows Vicky out of Sassy's after she leaves? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Brett and Ryan Return to Sassy's and Argue

Brett and Ryan return to Sassy's again after Vicky and Jake have left, but Brett is looking around for Vicky. Ryan asks who Brett is looking for. Brett fibs that she was just checking out the layout compared to some of the coffeehouses they've been to. Ryan asks Brett to promise him that they won't go to any more coffeehouses tonight, because with all the espresso in his system, he won't get to sleep for weeks, and the Eurotrash soundtrack is stuck in his head. Don't the coffeehouse owners know anything about music? Brett asks Ryan if he really hated the evening. Ryan thought the topless coffee bar was interesting, but otherwise, yes, he hated the evening. Brett bashes Ryan for only remembering the name of the topless coffee bar and for complaining so much. Ryan points out that he hasn't eaten all day, and the coffeehouses don't serve real food, and he just wants a cheeseburger. Brett accuses Ryan of not being able to concentrate on anything but what he wants for more than two minutes. Ryan tells Brett that he just spent over fifty bucks on nothing but coffee, but he doesn't care if Juan Valdez himself picks the damn beans, Ryan doesn't think any cup of coffee is worth five bucks. Brett asks Ryan if he's always such a drag. Ryan insists that he's not a drag, and a lot of people like him. This makes Brett laugh out loud. Brett then gets serious as she says she thinks this is why Vicky broke up with Ryan. If she were Vicky, she'd tell Ryan to take a hike too; who wants to keep listening to all of Ryan's complaining? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jenna and Matt--I Know You Understand, But Is Dean Going to Understand?

Matt returns to Dean and Jenna's after seeing Dean leave and asks Jenna if she wants to be alone. She doesn't, so he comes inside to sit with her. Matt apologizes, saying he should have kept his mouth shut, but Jenna tells him it's not his fault. Dean had to find out sooner or later, and Matt was right: Jenna should have told him. Matt says it's done and they shouldn't dwell on it. Jenna says maybe she thought if she didn't say the words exactly, it wouldn't be true. Matt says he understands. Jenna tearfully replies that she knows Matt understands, but is Dean going to understand? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Dean Tells Lorna That Jenna Is Pregnant

Dean surprises Lorna when he comes storming into D&M because she thought he was going home. Lorna asks if he and Jenna had "a little yeller," but Dean says he wants to work on some music and starts fiddling with his keyboard. Lorna pulls the plug on him and says that she has one nerve left and Dean is stomping all over it. Obviously Dean has had a bad time with somebody, and Lorna says that she knows she's not high on Dean's list of confidantes, but go ahead and try her, she won't make fun of him. Dean drops the bombshell that Jenna is pregnant. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1990--At Zack's Goodbye Party

Cass and Frankie gather at The Paradise with Zack, Ronnie Lawrence and her brother Reuben, and Stacey and Derek manage to make a brief appearance before leaving to spend the evening together since Stacey is heading to Washington, D.C. the next day to be with Lucas when he testifies before a subcommittee. The occasion is Zack Edwards' goodbye party; Congressman Grant Harrison got Zack a job in D.C. and he took it. There are a few little gems in here with Cass and Frankie, like Zack bemoaning the fact that Cass and Frankie have the worst timing ever, because now that he's leaving town, they've finally admitted how they really feel about each other. They assure Zack that he's jumping the gun (but trust me, he won't be for long). Watch closely in the background starting at about 2 minutes and 14 seconds, because Cass and Frankie touching foreheads and having a thumb-wrestling war is way too cute NOT to pay attention to (and far less of a drag that Zack and Ronnie's conversation about why Ronnie isn't going to D.C. with Zack even though he asked her to). Finally, when Zack says his final goodbyes, he tells Cass to take care of Mary Frances, and tells Mary Frances to take care of "the Counselor." After Zack leaves for the airport with Ronnie and Reuben, Cass asks Frankie to come home with him. They don't go back to Cass's place, but if you're a Cass and Frankie fanatic like me, you won't want to miss what happens next with them!

Cass Declares His Love to Frankie for the First Time, 1990

I have no words. I didn't when I first saw this three years ago, and I don't now. But it still makes me smile and get that happy feeling inside. So instead of a description or summary, I offer only these suggestions: watch, listen, enjoy, and melt! Laughing

Frankie, Josie and John Worry About Sharlene, 1990

John has just gotten off the phone with Sharlene's boss at The Pelican Club and confirmed that she is not working when Frankie and Josie drop by the farm, having run into each other at the mall. Frankie brags to John about how Josie is a celebrity because she was signing autographs at the mall. Frankie then reads a magazine item about Josie aloud, causing John's fatherly instincts to come to the forefront when Josie is referred to as a "sex kitten" in the article. Josie assures John that she's not really dating the movie star that the article says she is, and that she's not upset about it. Lucas told her to expect things like this, and she does have an audition for a film. John is glad that Josie's career is going well. John tells the women that Sharlene went on a shopping spree for clothes. Frankie and Josie are stunned when they see how expensive the clothes are. Josie says this isn't like her mother at all, and John agrees. John excuses himself and leaves to go and find Sharlene.

Frankie and Josie go through the new clothes that Sharlene bought after John leaves, and not a single item of clothing is Sharlene's style. Frankie wonders if Sharlene is already pregnant (Sharlene told Josie that she and John are trying to have a baby, and Josie told Frankie), and Josie asks Frankie not to mention that she told Frankie about that, because Frankie's not supposed to know about it yet. Frankie assures Josie that she won't say anything, then suggests that maybe Sharlene bought all these clothes because she's already pregnant. Josie says if her mother were already pregnant, she'd be buying maternity clothes instead. Frankie didn't say it made sense, but it might explain Sharlene doing something so strange. Josie tells Frankie about the last time Sharlene came to visit her at her apartment, the day before, and how strangely she was acting. When the phone rings, Frankie and Josie think it's Sharlene, but it's someone from Sophisticate for Josie, telling her that Iris cut her from the swimsuit issue. Josie is upset and angry at being cut, so she wrangles herself a spot on Felicia's talk show. Frankie wonders if Josie is being too pushy, since Felicia is Matt's stepmother. Josie brushes that off, saying that what's the use of connections if you don't use them, and besides, Felicia thinks it's a great idea. John returns as Josie is leaving, Josie tells John goodbye and that Frankie will explain, and John asks Frankie if Sharlene called. When he learns that Sharlene didn't call, John tells Frankie that he went to the boutique where Sharlene bought the clothes and learned that she charged over a thousand dollars' worth of clothes. John tells Frankie he's been worried about Sharlene for a while. Frankie asks if that's why John has been asking about Sharlene's past behavior and the Frame family. John says it is; he was looking for a pattern of behavior. He has a hunch, but he doesn't want to talk about it until he knows more.

Frankie wants to know what John's hunch is, but he won't tell her. He tells Frankie that Sharlene hasn't been herself lately, and he knows Frankie has seen that too. John doesn't understand. Sharlene was so happy when they first got married, but now things just aren't adding up. John knows that there have been emotional problems in the Frame family. Frankie explains that deep down, the Frame women believe they don't deserve to be loved. Sharlene loves John, John loves Sharlene, everything is wonderful, and Sharlene thinks she doesn't deserve it. Frankie reminds John about her curse, and Cass bringing her to the hospital to see Cass. Frankie was convinced that this old woman had hexed her and anyone she loved would be hurt, killed, eaten by wild dogs, but it wasn't true. Cass showed her that. The real curse was that Frankie believed herself so unlovable that she pushed people away. John asks if Frankie thinks that's Sharlene's problem. Frankie replies that Sharlene had pretty much the same upbringing Frankie did. John asks if Frankie has any suggestions for him. Frankie tells John to love Sharlene, and keep on loving her, and sooner or later, Sharlene is bound to realize John means it. John replies that he can do that easily, but he's not sure if it will be enough.

Felicia and Cass 1990--You Told Frankie You Love Her? That's Wonderful!

Felicia finds an exuberant Cass flamenco dancing by himself at the law office. He sweeps her into the dance, and when they're finished, she asks Cass why he's at the office so late. Cass checks his watch and says 9:00 isn't so late, and he was just cleaning up. Felicia points out that Cass has never cleaned up anything in his life, and asks what's going on. After some comical back-and-forth between the best friends, Cass tells Felicia that he declared his love to Frankie. Felicia squeals with delight. "You told Frankie you love her? That's wonderful!" she shrieks. Then she amends her statement: it's wonderful if he meant it. Cass firmly asserts that of course he meant it. He's dancing around by himself like a doofus. He loves Frankie, he knows it, it just popped out, and Frankie liked it. Felicia wants to celebrate by tearing up Cass's little black book. He leaves her to it after only a little persuading from her, and she wonders why he's not answering when she's making comments about Shotzy ("You dated somebody with the name of Shotzy? It sounds like a daschsund!") and she goes into the private office, where Cass is looking at his and Kathleen's wedding portrait.

Felicia remembers how she and Wally practically had to beat Cass over the head to get him to realize he was in love with Kathleen. He didn't think he could ever love anybody after she died. It wasn't the same with Nicole; he needed someone, and she was there, and they seemed right together, but it was not the same thing. He talked himself into that one, he thinks. Cass assures Felicia he's not doing that with Frankie. He's done everything he possibly could to ruin things with Frankie, yet through it all, he still loves her. Felicia muses that love is a strange thing, and sometimes scary. Cass tells Felicia that he waited all this time to tell Frankie he loves her because he wanted to be certain. Frankie's been hurt too much already. Felicia says that she and Mitch have really done a number on each other, but hopefully that's over. Felicia advises Cass that if he really is going to start fresh, he's going to have to mean it. Cass tells Felicia she's right, and that he has to take care of something. As he puts his coat on, he asks Felicia to wait at the office until Frankie comes and tell Frankie he'll be right back. Felicia agrees and asks Cass to tell her where he's going, but he doesn't answer her.

Felicia and Frankie 1990--Everything Is Gonna Be Just Great

Frankie arrives at the law office and is surprised to find Felicia there and Cass not there. Felicia can't stop smiling. She tells Frankie that Cass had to go out, but he wants Frankie to wait for him right there. Then Felicia tells Frankie that Cass told her the good news about the two of them, that Cass told Frankie he loves her. Frankie freaks out, thinking that Cass took off because he can't handle having told Frankie he loves her. Frankie fears that Cass has bolted now that he finally said he loves her; he freaked out and ran, didn't he? Felicia assures Frankie that Cass told Felicia he loves Frankie. He used the word "love" and they talked about it. Felicia tells Frankie not to worry about it. Everything is gonna be just great. Cass will be back any minute. Frankie asks what all the stuff on Cass's desk is. Felicia says that Cass was cleaning up or something. Frankie apologizes for going crazy, but Felicia tells her it's okay. Everything is great. Felicia asks Frankie to call her, then leaves to go home. After Felicia leaves, Frankie muses that Cass never cleans, and thinks this means that he has lost it and freaked now that he finally told Frankie he loves her. Then she finds the wedding picture and realizes where Cass is and she goes after him.

Cass and Frankie 1990--You're My Life Now, Frankie

Frankie finds Cass at Kathleen's grave and tells him it's no problem. She was wrong at The Odyssey, wasn't she? He's not over her. Cass tells Frankie that she's wrong. The reason he came to the cemetery was because he had to tell her--tell her that he's moved on with his life, that he loves Frankie. He tells Frankie again that he loves her, and that Kathleen will always be a part of his life, but he was telling Kathleen that there hasn't been anyone since her until now...until Frankie. "You're my life now, Frankie," Cass tells Frankie. "Or at least, I think you could be. What do you think?" Frankie hugs Cass in reply, and he hugs her back. They stand there holding each other for a long moment and then leave together hand in hand.

Cass and Frankie 1990--Happy, and Kissing on the Farm Porch

I LOVE this scene! Cass and Frankie arrive early for dinner at John and Sharlene's and linger on the porch talking and kissing and being happy and romantic until they are caught kissing by the newly arrived Matt and Josie. When Matt crows about catching Cass and Frankie kissing, Cass tells Matt to take notes and learn something.

Cass and Frankie 1990--An Evening at John and Sharlene's

During an eventful evening at John and Sharlene's, everyone present (Cass and Frankie, John and Sharlene, Stacey and Derek, Matt and Josie) reacts to the news that Josie received a threatening piece of fan mail during her interview on Felicia's talk show; Cass asks Stacey to take Zack's place as his full partner in the law firm, making it Winthrop and Winthrop instead of Winthrop and Edwards now that Zack is gone; and despite Sharlene's best efforts to maintain control, Sharly emerges and brings everything to a halt when she asks Cass how no-fault divorce works and then fakes being upset so she can run out after Matt and Josie, and Stacey and Derek, have left.

Frankie Declares Her Love to Cass for the First Time, 1990

As with the scene adjacent to this one (Cass saying those three little words to Frankie for the first time), I have no words for this scene either. It's just as wonderful and right as its adjacent scene is. So again, watch, listen, enjoy, and melt! Laughing
