Hey, everybody!
Still taking medicines (Cephalexin, Benadryl, and cough drops) for the sore throat, which seems to now be generating a cold since I can't stop sneezing today and there's no rain in sight. Wanted to get the clips' descriptions and links out as promise. From 1993, Cass and Frankie are unaware of how unhinged Christy is becoming, and how suspicious Douglas is becoming of her; and because I love Ryan so much, here are all of the scenes that include him in the leading up to Vicky's wedding ceremony to Grant.
In 1990, Emma the perpetual buzzkill won't give Frankie and Cass a break, and won't say word one to help John and Sharlene...and Nettie, there's a Mitch sighting! I'm not happy that he didn't help Felicia try to talk Cass up to Emma, but I have to confess, when Mitch confronted Felicia about worrying about Lucas, I think that's the most real emotion I ever saw from him in 1989-1990.
Thanks to Janie for the 1993 scenes!
Amy
Carl and Ryan--I Do Love You, Lad, With All My Heart
On Vicky and Grant's wedding day, Carl urges Ryan to do something because the clock is ticking. Ryan tells Carl that he never said he didn't care, but he's not going to do what Carl does, with the notes and threats and firecrackers. Carl maintains his innocence in the threats against Grant. Ryan says that Carl doesn't want Vicky to marry Grant and will do anything to stop it. Carl says, "Not quite," and adds that it's true that parents will do almost anything to protect their children. Ryan tells Carl that Ryan will take care of everything himself. Carl wishes that were true. Carl tells Ryan to remember everything he said, because the answers are in there somewhere. Then, before leaving, Carl says, "Ryan...I do love you, lad, with all my heart." Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan, Michael, and Spencer on Vicky and Grant's Wedding Day
Ryan is looking at pictures that he puts in an envelope when Michael calls his name. The men hug and say how good it is to see each other. Michael admits his awkward feelings because he never pictured Vicky's wedding quite like this. Ryan tells Michael he's okay with it, and that Spencer is standing up for Grant because everyone seems to be more comfortable that way and besides, Ryan has enough to do making sure who's threatening Grant. Michael is worried because there was another threat against Grant that morning, but Ryan tells Michael that he thinks he's finally on this guy's track and assures Michael that nothing will happen at the wedding. Spencer comes in then and tries to start something with Michael by bringing up the past, but Michael tells Spencer that he's willing to put aside all of their differences for Vicky's sake; is Spencer willing to do the same thing for Grant? Spencer hesitates a few seconds, then agrees to put aside his differences with Michael for Grant and the two men shake hands as Ryan looks on. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Spencer Insists That Ryan Meet Vicky's Sleigh
Vicky is arriving earlier than anticipated, and despite all of the security, there's no one to meet her sleigh and make sure she gets inside the carriage house where the wedding will take place safely, so Spencer tasks Ryan with the job. Ryan refuses, but Spencer persists, saying that there's no one else available and Spencer can't tamper with the other assignments to pull somebody, and that Ryan is the only one who would know what to do if something were to happen to Vicky. Ryan does agree with the last point, but says it's a lot to ask. Spencer says he knows it's bound to be a bit awkward. "A bit?!" Ryan says sarcastically. Spencer insists that Vicky needs Ryan right now whether Ryan knows it or not. Finally Ryan says he'll go. Spencer tells him to hurry because Vicky has already left her house. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan Meets Vicky's Sleigh
Ryan meets Vicky's sleigh when she arrives at the carriage house and escorts her inside. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan and Spencer--What Kind of Monster Are You?
Ryan confronts Spencer with proof that Spencer, not Carl, is the one who's been threatening Grant all this time. Ryan asks Spencer what kind of monster he is that he would terrorize his own family. Spencer tries to pin it on Carl, but Ryan tells Spencer that Spencer underestimated Ryan, which was Spencer's first mistake. Ryan investigated, and Carl was never in Jamaica. That was all an elaborate smoke screen that Spencer set up. Ryan asks if Spencer is going to lie to to his face. Spencer finally explodes that he was the one who sent the threats. Ryan wants to know why. Spencer says that this wedding is a disaster, and he was trying to give Ryan, Vicky, and Grant all three a chance at happiness. (Show of hands: anyone besides me think his methods were too extreme?) Spencer claims he did it all out of love. Ryan retorts that Spencer doesn't know the first thing about love, and that Spencer didn't do this for Vicky or Grant or Ryan, he did it for himself. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Frankie and Cass 1993--The Onle Wedding I Really Feel Like Celebrating Is Ours
Frankie and Cass are getting ready for Grant and Vicky's wedding, and the limo driver is honking impatiently, but Frankie tells Cass she wants to stay home. He asks why. She replies that Ryan is her friend and this wedding is hurting him. She adds that the only wedding she really feels like celebrating is hers and Cass's, because she knows that one is on the level. So Cass sends the limo driver away and he and Frankie ditch the wedding. Frankie suggests that they invite Christy and Douglas for dinner, and Cass agrees, so Frankie calls Christy to invite her and Douglas over. Unbeknownst to Christy, Douglas is behind her and hears her tell Frankie that he is not having a good day but that she could use an excuse to get out so she'll get Douglas settled and be right over. Frankie tells Christy they'll see her soon. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Douglas and Christy Argue
Douglas asks Christy why she lied to Frankie and let Frankie think that he is feeling much worse than he is. Christy asks why they're arguing, because they both know Douglas hasn't been strong since Christy took him him to the hospital a few weeks ago. Douglas thinks that Christy is going to see her new man and that's why she wants him to stay home. Christy lies again that the man is out of town and says she hates it when Douglas doubts her. Douglas asks if Christy is going to tell Frankie all about her new man, and if she'll meet him after she leaves Frankie's. He says that Christy looks like a woman in love again. Christy retorts that Douglas is projecting that and tells him that she'll always love him. Douglas says in that case, stay there and tell him what she's feeling. Her happiness is all he cares about, and that's what they need to discuss. Douglas wants Christy to call Frankie and cancel, but Christy refuses to stay home and talk to Douglas. Douglas asks if Christy will be back before dinner. She says she will. Douglas makes her promise that she will and that they will talk all he likes, and then she leaves. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Christy Lies About Douglas
When Christy arrives at Cass and Frankie's house, she turns on the tears and lies through her teeth about Douglas, saying that he insisted she come alone because he feels guilty if he feels he's keeping her from things, and then she feels guilty because she's leaving him alone, and Douglas is just so selfless and it's just not fair. Frankie says it's a no-win situation. Cass suggests they take the party to the Carsons' house, but Christy says Douglas is probably sleeping by now. Cass then suggests that Christy stay at his and Frankie's house and relax for a while. Christy says she'll give it her best shot, then comments on how dressed up Cass and Frankie are. Frankie says they were going over to see Grant Harrison get married, but... Cass finishes Frankie's sentence, saying that Frankie thought they'd have a better time rehearsing their own trip down the aisle. Christy exclaims about the wedding being in two weeks, and says she still has to teach Frankie that tango step. Cass puts on some music, and Frankie says that she'll watch while Cass and Christy dance, since they're the experts, and that's the way Christy taught her to dance when they were in high school. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Douglas Shows Up at Cass and Frankie's House
After Frankie goes to feed the neighbor's cat Chompsky, Christy tells Cass that she really feels she can let down her guard when she's around him, and that Douglas is really starting to imagine things and be very critical of her. Cass thinks maybe Douglas just isn't feeling well. Christy says she doesn't want to put this on Cass, then remarks how beautiful it is outside. Cass suggests they go for a walk, and with any luck, they can catch Frankie and Chompsky...but when they open the door to go outside, Douglas is standing there and he greets them.
Cass takes Douglas's coat and Christy asks him if he's all right. Douglas replies that he's a little out of breath, but otherwise intact. His cabbie was a bit of a thrillseeker. Cass is surprised that Douglas took a taxi to the house in his condition. Frankie returns then and is just as surprised to see Douglas. Douglas compliments Frankie and Cass on how dressed up they are and asks if they were going out with Christy. Christy says that Frankie and Cass were going to a wedding and they canceled. Frankie offers Douglas some tea, but Douglas says the tea can wait; he has something to tell them about Christy. Christy says she would have come straight home if Douglas had called her. "Would you have?" Douglas asks. She says of course she would. Douglas says that Cass and Frankie deserve to know the truth about what's going on, and asks Christy if she wants to tell them, or shall Douglas? Christy knocks over a vase of flowers, which crashes to the floor and breaks.
Christy apologizes for knocking over the vase, but Cass assures her that it's all right. Frankie brings Douglas some tea, and he apologizes for being such a bother, but Frankie tells him he's nothing of the kind, and she and Cass are delighted that Douglas came by. Cass agrees and asks what Douglas wanted to tell them. Douglas says that Christy has a very bad habit: she's completely overprotective of him. Douglas knows that Christy means well and has only his best interests at heart, but sometimes she takes things a little too far. Cass and Frankie don't understand what Douglas means, and Frankie asks if he's talking about his illness. Douglas replies yes; today he was feeling much better than he has in days, but Christy thought he should stay at home because of his recent bouts. Douglas tells Christy that Cass and Frankie have become very important to him, and he would like to spend as much as time as possible with his new friends in whatever he has left, and of course spend as much time as possible with Christy. Cass says that he and Frankie would like that too, and then Cass and Frankie excuse themselves to get refreshments. Frankie tells Cass this is breaking her heart. Cass replies that it's breaking his heart too. After Cass and Frankie leave the room, Douglas apologizes to Christy for pressing her about that man because the last thing he wants to do is drive her away. Christy replies that it's her fault; she just didn't want to hurt Douglas. Douglas says he knows, but they have so little time left together. Can Christy blame Douglas for wanting to spend every moment of it with her? Christy embraces Douglas, and Cass and Frankie return in time to witness what looks like a passionate embrace between the Carsons. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Frankie, Matthew, and Josie 1990--Investigations and Invitations
Josie is not happy when Matthew calls Frankie to investigate the break-in and ransacking of her apartment following the disturbing fan mail on Felicia's talk show. (This is because it would be revealed later in 1990 that Josie was doing these things herself in order to remain in the headlines.) Frankie finds it strange that the alleged stalker/burglar didn't take a souvenir. Josie says maybe she just hasn't noticed what's missing yet. Matthew tells her she'd better take a look around. Josie refuses to call the police, which makes Matthew unhappy, but Frankie understands Josie's reasons, especially the one about not wanting to upset Sharlene. Matthew leaves to attend a press conference honoring Grant Harrison after asking Josie to please talk to Frankie. Frankie notices the strain between the young couple, but Josie assures her that everything will be fine. Frankie happily says she wants both Josie and Matthew in a party mood by Friday, which reminds Josie that Friday is the night of Cass and Frankie's engagement party. Josie is going to invite Matthew to the party, and tells Frankie that once she gets things worked out with Matthew, everything will be okay.

Frankie Recalls the Name of the Hospital Where Sharlene Was Admitted Years Ago, 1990
Frankie goes to the hospital in answer to John's summons. Upon arriving, Frankie has a run-in with a nasty hospital bureaucrat who just shut down a request of John's. Once the bureaucrat leaves, John quickly gets to the issue at hand: Emma won't tell him the name of the hospital where Sharlene was admitted years ago, so John asks Frankie to help him out by telling him where Sharlene was a patient. At first Frankie doesn't think she knows, since she was just a little kid at the time, but after thinking about it for a moment, Frankie realizes there could only be one place if it was near the farm in Oklahoma: St. Rafael's. Finally John has a major piece of key information to go on.

Sharly, John, and Frankie Before Frankie and Cass's Engagement Party, 1990
Sharly is in charge, and she pretends to be Sharlene and lies to John that she got called in to work at The Pelican Club. John is going to see "The Iceman" (aka Grant Harrison) but will be back in plenty of time for Cass and Frankie's engagement party. Sharly says that Frankie has everything under control, quickly kisses John, and leaves. After she leaves, Frankie interrupts John's reverie to ask about tabasco sauce for the salsa. He distractedly tells her it's in the refrigerator door, then comes back to the moment when Frankie asks if he called St. Rafael's. John tells her he did, and they're sending him Sharlene's records. He has to get the records, he insists, in order to find out what's really bothering Sharlene. Frankie has something she wants John to taste, so they head into the kitchen.

Cass and Frankie 1990--Banter and Certainty
Cass and John are joking about the buffet for Cass and Frankie's engagement party--Cass has never seen so much roughage in one concentrated area in his entire life, while John states the buffet looks like International Night at the health food store. Cass and Frankie banter about cooking, tofu, and caviar. Emma the perpetual buzzkill strikes again when she disapproves of Cass and Frankie getting married in two months, because she thinks it's too soon. Cass and Frankie tell Emma that they're sure. Emma continues her negativity, saying that leaping into marriage can get people into a bunch of bad trouble. John defends Cass and Frankie, telling Emma that they're not kids anymore and they know what they want and they can't put their lives on hold, and she retorts that between the two of them, Cass and Frankie don't have enough common sense to fill a thimble. John tells Emma to get off Cass and Frankie's backs, but she won't back down. John tells Cass and Frankie that he tried, then leaves to see his patient. After John's departure, Frankie tells Emma she's making Frankie nervous. Cass says they all need to calm down, then tells Emma that she's going to love having him for a son-in-law, it's a sure thing. Emma says she has never in her life seen a sure thing.

Frankie and Emma 1990--Can You Try and Understand That I Just Want You to Be Happy for Me and Cass?
This scene, I believe, gives the best explanation for the root of Frankie's insecurities. Emma tells Frankie, "I will go my grave wishing you were more like me!" when Frankie says that the two of them have very different tastes.
Frankie's reply is earnest and heartbreaking: "Couldn't we just be different and still love each other?"
Emma still thinks Cass is a slick-talking lawyer with a shady reputation that Frankie barely knows, and that Frankie's judgment is not the best.
But Frankie stands her ground and stands up to her mother, in a respectful way. Part of it is Emma being a mother, not wanting to see her daughter get hurt again, but it's clear that Emma doesn't have much faith in Frankie's judgment, and that she meant it when she said she wished Frankie were more like her.
"Love is a man named Cass who makes me laugh, who makes me shiver, who makes me furious, but who also makes me feel more alive than I have ever felt in my life," Frankie says. "Can you try and understand that I just want you to be happy for me and Cass?"
Emma agrees to try to be happy for Frankie and Cass. But she's not done knocking Frankie yet, as her parting comment in the end of the scene is "Maybe tomorrow we can do something about your clothes."
If only Emma could love and appreciate her daughter for exactly who she is, as Cass does, and Sharlene, and Ryan, and Felicia, and the rest of Bay City. (Well, okay, Ryan hadn't arrived yet, but you know what I mean.)

Cass and Frankie 1990--Ready for the Restistance Check? I'm Ready.
Romance alert! Frankie assures Cass that her mother will come around and reminds him that it took her months to realize he wasn't a jerk, but once she came to her senses, she fell madly in love with him. Give Emma some time, and she'll be putty in Cass's hands like Frankie is. Cass announces he has to check Frankie's resistance, which he does by kissing her when she sits on his lap. Evan Bates, Frankie's cousin, sneaks by the happy couple while they're kissing when he arrives for the party.

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 1
First, a quick aside: as you watch this series of clips showcasing Cass and Frankie's engagement party from 1990, you'll notice all of the other stories and dramas surrounding them. They have what I have termed a do-over engagement party (it's not officially called that, but it serves that purpose) at the Cory Mansion over the 4th of July 1990, and they are much more the focus at that party than they are at this one.
Now, this party begins in earnest with the arrival of Caroline Stafford. Cass and Frankie think that she crashed the party, but Caroline indignantly informs Cass that Sharlene invited her. (Actually, Sharly invited her, but no one knows for certain yet about Sharly's existence, although John has his suspicions and is getting closer to proving them as the truth.) Caroline wishes Cass and Frankie every happiness, but Cass has a hard time believing her. Evan, sporting a bruise on his face from a well-placed punch courtesy of Jamie Frame, who caught Evan coming on to Jamie's still-married, bikini-and-short-robe-clad sister Amanda Cory Fowler by the Cory pool, removes Caroline from the conversation with Cass because he says he doesn't want her face to end up looking like his. John arrives home at the same time Rachel arrives with Ken Jordan. Rachel greets Emma happily with a hug and introduces her to Ken Jordan, then goes to greet and congratulate Cass and Frankie. John pulls Emma aside to tell her that he is going to speak to a doctor from St. Rafael's about Sharlene's stay there. Emma tells him that he shouldn't dig around in the past because he'll regret it. Frankie interrupts her uncle (by marriage) and her mother and tells them to come back to the party right after John urgently pleads with Emma to help him by telling him what she knows about Sharlene, and Emma dismissing that by telling John she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't really want to do and insisting that Sharlene has to help herself (first putting down her daughter and her daughter's fiance, and then refusing to help her brother-in-law with her sister's mental health history at the most critical time of her sister's life; boy, that Emma is just a big ray of sunshine and all kinds of helpful, isn't she? NOT!).

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 2
Emma is appalled that Sharlene has to work at The Pelican Club instead of being at Cass and Frankie's engagement party, and says there had to be a better way to earn a living. John says that Sharlene will be home soon, and Frankie adds that the party is just cranking up. Emma balks at Frankie's offer to help Emma with the cooking for the party, saying that Frankie needs to be with her guests. Cass regales Rachel and Ken Jordan with the story of how unlucky he and Frankie were in the casino in Las Vegas, which makes Rachel laugh. Ken says he's not a gambler as a rule. Rachel excuses herself to go and talk to Emma, and Ken says he knows that Cass doesn't hold him in particularly high regard. Cass replies that he would hold Ken in higher regard if Ken hadn't come around asking all sorts of pointed questions about Mac Cory's will. Ken is amazed at how many people in Bay City seem to feel threatened by him. Mitch, who has since arrived with Felicia, pipes up then that he is amazed there aren't more people wary of Ken. Ken asks if Mitch is thinking particularly of Rachel. Cass asks if anyone has seen his fiancee lately, and Felicia tells him that Frankie is in the kitchen, so Cass heads to the kitchen. Felicia tries to steer the conversation to small talk about the sausage rolls and the chef at TOPS, but Ken and Mitch are still tense with each other. Felicia then asks Mitch if he wants to talk to John about his knee so John could recommend a brace or something for playing golf, and she and Mitch head over to talk to John. Rachel returns from the kitchen and apologizes to Ken for not even thinking about Mitch being at the party. Ken assures her there's no harm done.

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 3
Caroline Stafford chats up Michael, who's attending the party alone because Donna is spending time with Mikey. When Rachel asks after Donna, Michael tells her that Donna's with Mikey, and a lot of things have changed for them since the Millers, Mikey's biological parents, came back. After Michael excuses himself, Caroline and Rachel chat about the gallery and about Ken Jordan, whom Rachel insists is not her date. Frankie knows that Emma is upset but asks her mother to please lighten it up a little. Emma retorts that she knows how to behave at parties and tells Frankie not to spill the tray of food that Frankie is setting on the buffet table. "I'm outta here," Frankie says, and she and Cass head to the opposite side of the room from Emma. Emma sits Felicia down on the couch to talk about Felicia's books. Josie and Matthew arrive late. Josie apologizes, but John tells her they're not the only ones--Sharlene isn't here yet either. While Matthew goes to say hello to Rachel and Mitch, Josie asks John where Sharlene is and why she isn't at the party.

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 4
Rachel looks on as Caroline and Ken discuss primitive art. After Caroline goes to get another glass of champagne, Rachel says she can't imagine why Sharlene invited Caroline. Ken asks Rachel if they can step outside because he needs to talk to her, and they leave. Felicia talks very, very preliminary wedding plans with Cass and Frankie, ruling out a garden wedding (Cass has allergies) and a hot-air balloon ride (Frankie has a fear of heights). Felicia asks Cass if he's talked to Stacey lately and if she's mentioned anything about Lucas's case. Cass says that Stacey won't know anything until she talks to the Congressional committee, then asks Felicia how Mitch feels about all this concern she has for Lucas. Matt confesses to Mitch that he and Josie are having a problem; sometimes he looks at Josie and thinks she's not the same Josie he used to take skating at the mill. Mitch sympathizes. Emma compliments Matthew's manners to Josie and Frankie. Josie asks John if he's heard anything from Sharlene, and he replies that he hasn't and he's going to call The Pelican and find out where she is. When John comes back from calling The Pelican, he tells Michael that Sharlene isn't at The Pelican and she was never scheduled to work tonight. Sharlene lied to him, and she's never lied to him before about anything. Michael cautions John not to try and control Sharlene, but John says he doesn't want to control her, he just wants to understand what's going on. Felicia tells Emma that Frankie couldn't do better than Cass, and then she tries to talk Cass up to Emma. Mitch says nothing when Felicia tries to draw him into the conversation to help her talk Cass up, and when Emma leaves, Felicia is not happy that Mitch didn't help her talk Cass up to Emma. Mitch is also unhappy, but he's unhappy because he thinks that Lucas is the only thing Felicia thinks about or cares about; she just got done talking to Cass about him, didn't she? Mitch says if he just knew Felicia was thinking about him...but he doesn't finish the sentence.

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 5
Sharlene returns home, but she's still Sharly...only everyone thinks it's actually Sharlene. (Well, I think John suspects, but he doesn't do anything about it since this is not the time.) John tells her that he called The Pelican and was told she wasn't working tonight and asks her where the hell she was. She lies that Al (her boss at The Pelican) doesn't know if he's coming or going these days; it turns out they didn't need her after all, so she came home because she wouldn't miss being at Cass and Frankie's engagement party with John for anything. Josie asks to talk to Sharlene alone then. Michael congratulates Cass and Frankie and tells them he's happy for them and he knows Nicole is too. Cass asks if Michael has heard from Nicole lately, and Michael replies that he hasn't, but Donna has, and Donna wanted Michael to thank Cass for writing Nicole and telling her himself that he and Frankie are getting married. Frankie says that Cass is a sweet man. Josie is surprised but happy about Sharlene's advice, not knowing that it's coming from Sharly. After her talk with Josie, Caroline Stafford pins Sharly down to tell her that it's about bloody time she showed up, because everyone has been asking who invited Caroline to the party, and she's not as thick-skinned as Sharlene might think. Caroline asks if Sharlene changed her mind, and Sharly says that party or no party, John is going to find out tonight that she wants a divorce!

Cass and Frankie's Engagement Party, 1990--Part 6
After a talk with Emma, Josie muses that it's no wonder Sharlene is so hard on Josie. The party is starting to break up, as Rachel and Ken have already left, and when Matt comes outside looking for Josie, she asks him to come back to her apartment with her so they can talk. He agrees, and they go inside to get their things and say their goodbyes.

Frankie and Cass 1990--The Best Is Yet to Come
Frankie and Cass reminisce a bit about their relationship and how far they've come. Frankie tells Cass the best is yet to come. "You're gonna be my wife. I can't believe it," Cass marvels.
"I'm gonna make you believe it, every day for the rest of your life," Frankie promises before leaning in for a kiss.
Felicia interrupts the happy couple so that she and Mitch can say good night. While Mitch goes to get their coats, Felicia tells Frankie and Cass that Emma is a romance novel freak who hated Felicia's last two books and warned Felicia that her next book had better be better, or else. Frankie apologizes for her mother before going off to find Emma, and Felicia says good night to Cass.

John Toasts Cass and Frankie, and Sharlene, 1990
Cass and John compare notes on how things are going for each of them with Emma, and share their mutual concerns that Frankie and Sharlene are working overtime trying to make sure everybody's getting along. Sharly tells Caroline that she's going to drop the divorce bomb on John, grab the few things she wants out of "this rat trap," and split with Caroline. Caroline says it's getting late and she can't stay forever, and Sharly says there's no time like the present. Just then, Frankie brings out the carrot cake. Sharly tells John she has to talk to him, but John tells her to wait a minute, and he then gives a sweet, eloquent toast to Cass and Frankie, and one to Sharlene, saying that Sharlene is the best thing that's ever happened to him, and his fervent wish for Cass and Frankie is that they one day learn what he already knows: that it doesn't always have to be good times as long as the person that's next to you makes you feel glad to be alive. John thanks God every day that he comes home to Sharlene, and he tells Cass and Frankie that he hopes they find the happiness with each other that he has found in Sharlene. He toasts to Sharlene, and then to Cass and Frankie. Frankie is moved to tears by the toast, and says how sweet it was. Emma agrees it was sweet. John says he hopes he didn't embarrass Sharlene with his Lord Byron-isms and asks her what she wanted to say to him.

Cass and Frankie's Snow Globe Brings Sharlene Back, 1990
Just as Sharly is about to tell John she wants a divorce, Frankie and Cass call for Sharlene, telling her she has to see this. They just opened their engagement present from Reuben: a snow globe that plays "Here Comes Santa Claus." Frankie says she can't wait for Christmas this year. Upon hearing the music and seeing the snow swirling inside the snow globe, Sharlene remembers the first time she and John made love, and the following morning when he surprised her by showing her the snow that was falling, and Sharlene returns. "Sharlene?" John asks. Michael says Sharlene must be speechless after the speech John gave. John says he can't help it, he's a man in love. Sharlene tells John she loves him too. After John and Michael go to get more wine from the refrigerator, Caroline tells Sharlene that was quite a declaration of love, and under the circumstances, after what John said, what else could Sharlene do? Sharlene has no idea what Caroline is talking about because it wasn't her who saw and heard any of that, or who wants a divorce from John, it was Sharly.

Frankie and Cass 1990--Let's Go Home
Cass and Frankie agree that it was a good party and that they're glad Emma was there. Emma asks if they have to leave, and Frankie tells her that she and Cass will stop by for breakfast before they go to work in the morning. Emma insists on talking to Frankie alone. Cass says he'll go and get some air, and Emma practically drags Frankie away from Cass to talk to her. Frankie tells Emma that she's getting real tired of the way Emma is treating Cass. When Emma starts to disapprove of Frankie staying with Cass tonight, Frankie tells her not to say one word, because Frankie is a grown woman and makes her own decisions. Outside, Cass is waiting for Frankie, and Caroline sees him on her way out, tucking her card into his pocket and telling him that she does care about his happiness. Frankie comes outside then, and Cass jokingly asks if Emma has fallen for him and wants Frankie to step aside so she can have a clear shot. Frankie says she saw Caroline put something in Cass's pocket and asks what it was. Cass tells Frankie it was Caroline's card. Frankie wonders if Caroline ever gives up. Cass replies that he thinks that Caroline likes being an enigma, but she doesn't realize that Cass has never particularly fancied enigmas. "Let's go home," Frankie says. Cass agrees, he and Frankie kiss, and then they head home.
