Hey, everybody!
Here are this week's clips. Thanks to Janie for all of the 1993 scenes.
Amy
Ryan and Brett Talk at Ryan's Office
Brett goes over the plans for the espresso bar with Ryan, but he doesn't appear very attentive. They discuss what happened between them at Grant and Vicky's wedding reception--Ryan kissed Brett, and they threw drinks in each other's faces. Brett thinks Ryan is a little unglued because Vicky married his brother. Ryan tells Brett he is incredibly relieved that the wedding is over, and he is happier today than he has been in months, or at least he would be if people like Brett wouldn't make idiotic statements about things that they know nothing about. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake and Paulina Talk at KBAY
At KBAY, Paulina tells Jake she's surprised that Sloane isn't draped all over him telling him what a genius he is. Jake replies that Sloane is still in a snit because there weren't any explosions at the wedding. Paulina tells Jake he's slipping; she figured he'd have these things patched up already. Jake tells Paulina not to lose faith in him because he's onto something here. Paulina reminds Jake that last night, he was hinting around that he knew who was after Grant and Vicky, and he never told her how he came up with this brainstorm. Jake says it was something Ryan said when Ryan was trying to punch Jake's lights out--Ryan accused Jake of "being in on it" and working for Spencer. Paulina tells Jake to get real. Does Jake actually think that Spencer would make death threats against his own son? Jake says he isn't exactly saying that. Paulina asks what Jake is saying, then. Jake replies that Spencer is in this up to his ears, and Jake and Paulina are going to find out how. "We?" Paulina asks. Jake tells Paulina that she knows he doesn't make a move without her. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Paulina Talks to Ryan and Brett
When Brett remarks that Ryan is touchy about Vicky, Ryan tells her to just shut up about Vicky. They start to look at Brett's drawings of the espresso bar but the bickering continues. Ryan says they can't be in the same room with each other without fighting, so how are they supposed to work together? Brett retorts that she's not the one having a problem with this. Ryan says Brett is having a problem with him showing real interest in her last night, and reminds her that she kissed him back last night. Brett only kissed him back for a second, and she knows that Ryan is on the rebound. Ryan tells Brett she's out in left field when it comes to him. Brett is ready to take the plans and leave even though Ryan has to finalize them, and that's when Paulina arrives, asking how the plans for the espresso bar are coming along. Jenna was telling everyone at KBAY about the new hip, happening place Ryan and Brett are opening. Ryan tells Paulina that they are a long way away from opening anything. Right now, all they have is space. "And the design," Brett adds. Paulina says the espresso bar would fit in to a great new segment they're doing about new alternatives to old-fashioned beer joints. Ryan is skeptical about Paulina rushing over there to get them on film when they don't even exist yet and asks her what's going on. Is this Paulina's idea, or Jake's? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake Tries to Spy on Spencer
While Paulina is talking to Ryan and Brett, Jake returns to Spencer's mansion, where Grant and Vicky's wedding reception took place, on the pretense of getting some pickup shots to edit into the video he took at the wedding reception, lying to the butler that Spencer gave him permission. After the butler leaves him alone, Jake starts poking around in Spencer's desk, but Spencer catches him in the act before he can find anything incriminating. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Paulina Talks to Ryan and Brett While Jake Talks to Spencer
Ryan asks Paulina why she's really at his office. Paulina asks Brett to excuse her and Ryan for a minute. Ryan tells Brett they need to finalize those plans if they're going to get any publicity from TV crews. Brett agrees to be back in half an hour and leaves. After Brett leaves, Ryan asks Paulina what Jake wants.
Meanwhile, Jake tells Spencer he was just tidying up some papers on Spencer's desk because Jake didn't think Spencer would want the papers in the shot. Spencer sarcastically tells Jake that Jake is thoughtful.
Ryan doesn't believe that Jake wants to give Ryan free publicity for the espresso bar and tells Paulina she's a lousy liar. Paulina asks Ryan what his beef is with Jake. Ryan replies that his beef with Jake is that Jake sends his girlfriend to do his business, because Paulina is snooping around here when Jake should be doing it himself.
Jake tells Spencer that he needs a few establishing shots. Spencer tells Jake they need to talk and says that Jake implied at the wedding that Jake might know who was plaguing Grant and Vicky with the threats. Jake says that whoever is targeting Grant definitely isn't some two-bit gangster with an axe to grind. Spencer asks Jake if Jake thinks the police are hiding something. Jake points out that the police say they nabbed the maniac, but they haven't released a name, and there's nothing in the papers. Spencer replies that that's because Grant wants this to die out as soon as possible. These sick people get an awful lot of satisfaction from publicity. It's over. Jake asks Spencer how he knows that it's over; Grant's anti-crime bill hasn't been voted on yet, so who's to say this creep doesn't have a friend?
Paulina tells Ryan that when Ryan was fired up, Ryan said something about Spencer having hired Jake. Ryan tells Paulina to drop it because it's a family matter. But Paulina persists, telling Ryan that whatever it was had Ryan and Jake breaking crystal. Jake gets in a lot of fights, but Ryan doesn't. Ryan again orders Paulina to drop it, please. Paulina says that Jake was right: Ryan is covering something!
Jake asks Spencer if Spencer has any idea who the maniac was since Spencer is in the loop. Spencer says it's classified, and they haven't even told Grant who it was. Jake muses that that fits. Jake figures that whoever they fingered must be some high-up mucky muck and that's why they're keeping it all hush-hush. Spencer says there's a certain logic to Jake's theory. Jake says all they have to do is find out who this bigwig is. Spencer tells Jake to stay out of it. When Jake says it's a major story, Spencer says the story has come to an end, and that Jake had better pack up and leave. Jake tells Spencer that Ryan accused Jake of working for Spencer and being "in on it" when they were fighting and asks Spencer what Spencer thinks Ryan meant by that. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake Tries to Make Spencer Sweat
Spencer wonders what Ryan thought Spencer had hired Jake for. Jake replies that Ryan was too upset to get to that part. Spencer says Ryan must have been talking about the tape of the wedding, and Spencer helping Jake out with expenses. Jake doesn't think so, because Ryan knew Jake was working for KBAY. Spencer then says that he brought on so many security people that maybe Ryan thought Jake was undercover. Jake asks why Ryan would have punched him in the face for that. No, Jake says, Ryan was upset with Jake, and more to the point, Ryan was upset with Spencer. Spencer says that unfortunately, that's nothing new; Ryan and Spencer have always had a stormy relationship. Jake says he has a theory on that too, and he'll include it in his special wedding video. Spencer doesn't see how his relationship with Ryan has anything to do with Grant's wedding. Jake says that his producer goes in big time for the family intrigue, like two brothers in love with the same woman. Spencer angrily says that Jake is not including that. Jake tells Spencer he's including everything, and the audience will love the nut case trying to stop the wedding who is caught in the nick of time. The authorities know who it is, but won't release his name. Spencer tells Jake the Secret Service won't take kindly to Jake nosing into their case. Jake says he'll watch his back, thanks Spencer for the advice, and leaves. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan and Spencer Argue
Ryan tells Paulina to tell Jake that Ryan is not going to be bought off by some feature on KBAY. Paulina replies that she was serious about that. Ryan says he's serious too. Brett returns then and asks if she's back too soon. Paulina tells Brett that her timing is perfect. Then Spencer shows up at Ryan's office. Paulina's lunch break is over, so she leaves. Spencer asks if Ryan is free for lunch. "With you? Not in this lifetime," Ryan says. Spencer insists that he needs to talk to Ryan alone, because it's urgent. Brett says she can leave again. Ryan tells her she doesn't have to do that. Brett says she forgot earplugs when she left before, then pulls out a Walkman and headphones and puts them on so she can't hear Ryan and Spencer. Ryan tells Spencer again not to call or come by. Spencer tells Ryan that Jake paid him a visit. Ryan sarcastically remarks that Spencer isn't completely without friends. Spencer insists that Grant can't find out Spencer was the one who sent the threats and tried to stop the wedding, because if he does, that will finish them for good. "Is that the first time you've thought of that?" Ryan asks. "Boy, you really are a piece of work, you know that?" Spencer wants Ryan to lie for him, to convince Jake that he's off base, and he says again that he did all of this for Ryan and Grant. Ryan refuses to lie for Spencer. Ryan asks if Spencer really thought Vicky was going to walk away from Grant while somebody was pointing a gun to his head. Ryan tells Spencer to get the hell out of Ryan's office. Then he says that he is working and asks Spencer if Spencer is going to try and screw that up for him too. Spencer leaves angry, and Ryan lets Brett know that she doesn't have to keep the headphones on anymore. Brett asks Ryan if he's okay. Ryan tells Brett he's fine as long as they stick to buildings and blueprints. Brett assures Ryan she wasn't going to ask what that was about. Ryan says that's good. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Douglas and Frankie--Christy Resents What You Have With Cass
Frankie is concerned that Douglas's breathing is still shallow, but he assures her that it'll pass and that he's feeling much better now that Frankie is there. Douglas is surprised that Frankie is there, though, with her wedding in just a few days. Frankie replies that there isn't much for her to do; Christy and Felicia have everything taken care of. There have been a few bumpy spots, but she tries not to dwell on those. When Douglas says he's one of those bumpy spots, Frankie tells him he isn't, but he says that with his heart acting up, he's needed Christy more than usual these days, and it's been upsetting for Christy. Frankie realizes that Douglas is terribly worried about Christy. Douglas tells Frankie that Christy wants him to have more tests and to reconsider a heart transplant, but he doesn't want machines keeping him alive. Douglas says it's been very difficult, and he and Christy have argued. He asks Frankie if she would try talking to Christy again, but Frankie is afraid that would just make matters worse. She can't seem to talk to Christy at all lately. Christy thinks that Frankie has taken sides with Douglas and is encouraging Douglas to give in. Maybe that's why Christy has turned to Cass. Douglas asks if Frankie thinks Christy would listen to Cass. Frankie says if Christy listened to anybody, it would be Cass. When Douglas asks if Christy confides in Frankie anymore, Frankie tells him that Christy tells her bits of things, but not like when they were growing up and reading each other's journals. Frankie thought that they would pick up where they left off and that they would be baring their souls and laughing at who they'd turned out to be, because that's the kind of friends they were. Douglas asks if Frankie thinks Christy has changed a lot. Frankie says she didn't think so at first, then says maybe it's her. She's not the same either. Douglas reports that Christy says Frankie is exactly as Christy remembers her. Frankie has tried to figure it out. She keeps telling herself that she and Christy have just grown in different directions. When Christy was 15 years old, she acted like she was 30, and Frankie always looked up to Christy because she seemed so much older and wiser. "But you don't see her that way anymore, do you?" Douglas asks. Frankie says what's important is that Christy still sees herself that way, and why wouldn't she? Christy has led a very sophisticated life, living in New York, and working in the theater. Douglas says that doesn't make you mature and asks what Christy thinks about Frankie's interests in spiritual matters. Frankie says Christy doesn't think much of it and makes jokes about it. That's totally like Christy. She would never pretend with Frankie about something like that. Frankie says that nothing is simple with Christy anymore. Frankie used to be able to figure out why Christy did the things she did, but now, she doesn't have a clue. Frankie has been wondering if maybe it's because Christy resents Frankie's friendship with Douglas. Douglas tells Frankie that it's more likely that Christy resents what Frankie has with Cass. Frankie is surprised to realize that Douglas is serious, but Douglas continues: Frankie and Cass are young. They have a wonderful life and children ahead of them. Douglas can't give Christy that. Frankie says that Douglas gave Christy what she needed or Christy wouldn't have married him. Douglas says that out of all of them, he's changed the most. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Christy Discuss Douglas's Living Will
Christy tells Cass she needs his advice before it's too late. Cass reminds her that she said it was about him and her. Christy says that Douglas is failing right before her eyes, but no, he's not in the hospital yet. Christy asks Cass if there's a way out of the living will Douglas has drawn up; does she have to do everything it says? Is it legally binding? Does she have to sit back and watch her husband die? Cass says the living will mostly tells Christy what not to do, and that Douglas does not want any extraordinary means used to keep him alive if--and this is the important part--if there's no reasonable expectation of recovery. Christy asks who determines that, the doctors, Douglas, her? Cass says Douglas determines it as long as he is able, and then it would be Christy. Christy muses that she can ostensibly keep fighting for Douglas's life and use all the machines they have. Cass tells her that's not what Douglas wants, but she only asks if she'll be breaking the law if she does that. Cass tells her she has to talk to Douglas about this, but Christy says she can't talk to Douglas about it because he's obviously not in his right mind; otherwise he wouldn't be asking her to do this. Christy tells Cass she needs his help because he's the only person he can trust. Cass doesn't know Douglas. When Douglas and Christy got married, he promised he would never leave her, and now he's asking her to shove him off into the Great Beyond. Cass says that's not what Douglas is asking for, but Christy insists that it is. He's just asking nicely because that's his style. Cass says the instructions Douglas left in his living will are designed to help keep his final days dignified and to save Christy from watching Douglas linger in a state where the two of them can't reach out to each other. Christy says that's what Douglas says, but there's more to it than that. She tells Cass that Douglas wants to die, and she actually thinks he's looking forward to it. Cass says that he knows this is hard for Christy, but Douglas accepts the inevitable and they have to try to do that too. Christy says that Douglas accepts too much. He used to fight every setback and every weakness, and now he just lets it all wash over him. Cass says maybe it only seems that way to Christy. Christy says it IS that way and that's why she has to fight for him and protect him. "From what, himself?" Cass asks. Christy says that's what married people do for each other. Cass says married people support each other. Christy says this is wrong. Cass tells her Douglas is very clear about how he wants to die. Christy starts to cry as she says that Douglas is all she has, and winds up literally crying on Cass's shoulder as Cass tells her that she'll have to say goodbye someday and Christy replies that she won't be able to do that. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass Suggests Christy See a Therapist; Frankie Calls Home; Douglas Reacts
Cass gets Christy a glass of water. Christy thanks him, then apologizes for losing it. Cass tells her not to apologize; he's not a fan of big fronts. Christy says she's been keeping a lot inside and thanks Cass for listening, telling him she didn't mean to make this his problem. Cass replies that sooner or later, it finds its way out, and that it's tough to be strong for someone else. How long does Christy think she can keep this up? She says she can do it as long as she has to do it. Douglas has found a certain peace inside himself and she doesn't want to disturb that. When Cass asks why Christy doesn't talk to Frankie about this, Christy replies that she can't talk to Frankie about "that afterlife mumbo-jumbo" because Christy doesn't believe in it. She knows it's selfish, but she wants Douglas there with her. Cass says he understands completely. Christy says she knew Cass would. Cass says there's only one other thing for him to suggest: talk to a professional. Christy isn't happy that Cass suggests she talk to a therapist who specializes in working with the terminally ill and their families, claiming that she couldn't possibly talk to a total stranger. She tells Cass she'll think about it, and in the meantime it's been an enormous relief talking to Cass. Cass says he's there anytime. Christy says she may take Cass up on that.
The phone rings and Cass answers it. It's Frankie calling from Douglas and Christy's house, and she tells Cass she stopped by to see Douglas. Douglas has offered to take a look at Frankie's ethics paper. Cass asks Frankie how Douglas is doing and tells her to say hello for him. Frankie tells Douglas that Cass says hi. When Cass tells Christy that Frankie is talking to Douglas, Christy says that Frankie and Douglas have really taken to each other, haven't they? Douglas tells Frankie to tell Cass that he won't keep Cass's future wife much longer. Frankie asks Cass if they can have lunch together. Cass offers to make lunch for Frankie, how's that? Frankie tells Cass she loves him, how's that? Cass says that's what he wanted to hear, and assures Frankie he has no wedding jitters and that Frankie is not to worry about that because Christy is there keeping him in line. Frankie is surprised to hear that Christy is there. Frankie tells Cass she'll see him soon and ends the call.
Christy tells Cass she'd better be going, because she can't leave Douglas alone for much longer. Then Christy lies again to Cass that Douglas is getting irrational about things and forgets things when she goes out and gets confused, and that he has conversations with people who aren't in the room. She feels like she's betraying Douglas just by telling Cass this because Douglas is so proud.
Douglas asks Frankie if someone is with Cass. When Frankie says that Christy stopped by to see him, Douglas is not happy to learn that Christy is with Cass alone right now. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Christy Lashes Out at Frankie Again
Frankie asks Douglas if it bothers him that Christy is at Frankie and Cass's house. Douglas says no, he was just surprised that Christy went to see Cass when she left home so upset. Frankie realizes that Christy is shutting down on Douglas too. Frankie doesn't understand why Christy is isolating herself just when she needs support the most. Douglas says he supposes it's inevitable that Christy changed because she's been through so much. Frankie doesn't understand that either and asks what Christy has been through. To hear Christy tell it, she had a wonderful career, met the man of her dreams, and got married. It doesn't get more perfect than that for most people. Douglas says it isn't all that rosy; Christy has left out a few parts. Neither he nor Christy bargained for Douglas's illness. Douglas thinks that Christy misses the person she might have become. Frankie says that with a lot of people, she can sense where their pain is coming from, whether it's physical or emotional, but she can't connect with Christy at all; all she gets is static and confusion. Christy pipes up then in a sarcastically angry voice about how fascinating that is. Douglas asks Christy how long she's been there, and Christy continues on in her sarcastically angry way, saying that she would have said something sooner but she was learning so much. Then she asks Frankie how Frankie would like it if she spoke to Cass that way. Christy tells Frankie she'd better go. Frankie says she'd like to explain. Christy says she'd better deal with the fact that Frankie doesn't like the person Christy has become first. Frankie defensively points out that she never says that. When Douglas says he'd better talk to Christy alone, Frankie agrees to go. Christy makes a remark about how Frankie is leaving now that Douglas has told her to go. Frankie tells Christy that she never meant to hurt Christy, and that she is very clear about who Douglas loves. She just wishes Christy were clear about it too. After Frankie leaves, Douglas asks if Christy could have been more rude. Christy accuses Douglas of trying to turn her best friend against her. When Douglas says that Frankie is concerned about Christy, Christy says she doesn't want Frankie's pity. Douglas says that Frankie's feelings for Christy are genuine and she's concerned about Christy's happiness. Can Christy say the same about her feelings for Frankie? Christy retorts that Frankie is the one Douglas cares about now, is she? Douglas fires back that Christy isn't doing anything about her attraction to Cass, is she? Is she? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Douglas and Christy--Cass Is Off Limits
Christy asks if Douglas told Frankie that Christy is after her fiance. Douglas says he wouldn't do that. Christy says no, she doesn't know that, because she really doesn't know what Douglas would do anymore. Douglas says he is not Christy's enemy and this has to stop. Christy says yes, it does--Douglas shouldn't be telling her who she can and can't see anymore. Douglas tells Christy that in a few days, Cass will be marrying Christy's best friend. Christy says that Douglas has been telling her what to do since they met, and she's played her part very well. Douglas tells Christy not to hurt herself and her friends because she's angry at him. Christy says she's listened to Douglas for years, and where has it gotten her? Douglas replies that they had a good life together. Christy asks if that's why Douglas is so anxious to check out and leave her alone. Douglas says it's not like that, but Christy says it is. He has made her turn to him for everything. Douglas says that Christy was grateful for his help and she enjoyed the order he gave to her life. Christy sarcastically asks what she'll do when Douglas is gone. Douglas replies that she'll manage. Christy says Douglas didn't even trust her alone with Cass for one morning. Douglas says that certain things are off limits and Cass is one of them. Christy knows that. Christy asks why she has to bury every emotion she has that Douglas might think is inappropriate? Douglas replies that some of those feelings are dangerous to Christy and to others. When Christy says her heart is breaking, Douglas reminds her that she said that when they first met, and asks her who it's breaking for now. Christy says it's certainly not for Frankie. Douglas says if only Christy knew how she sounded right now. Christy asks if Douglas is going to pack her up and send her back to the hospital. Is that how he's going to keep her away from Cass? Douglas says he would never do that. Christy says she's through following orders. Now she's giving them. Christy walks out despite Douglas pleading with her to stay and talk, and Douglas then develops trouble breathing again and pain in his chest and is unable to reach the oxygen tank and mask on his own, so he falls to the floor on his knees gasping for breath. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Maybe That's What's Making Christy...Jealous. You Were Going to Say Crazy.
Frankie arrives home shaking, and Cass is alarmed. Frankie tells him she's so glad he's there and that she and Christy had this major blowup. Cass thinks it's the wedding, but Frankie tells him that Christy came home and overheard Frankie and Douglas talking about her. Cass says Christy is hurt that Frankie can reach out to Douglas in a way that Christy can't, and that Christy thinks Douglas has given up. Frankie muses that maybe she should keep her distance. Cass says that might be best. Frankie feels like Douglas needs her though. Cass says maybe that's what's making Christy... He pauses and then says, "Jealous."
"You were going to say crazy," Frankie replies.
Cass says there are things going on between Christy and Douglas that Cass and Frankie don't know much about. Frankie asks like what? Cass obviously knows something Frankie doesn't. When Cass tells Frankie that Christy thinks Douglas's illness is causing him to lose his mind, Frankie says that's ridiculous, she's never seen... Then all of a sudden, Frankie grabs her chest and then she reaches for Cass's hands as she starts gasping. Alarmed, Cass asks what's wrong. Frankie holds Cass's hands and continues gasping as she manages to get out that she can't catch her breath it's Douglas. Cass and Frankie are both scared by Frankie's inability to catch her breath. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Frankie, John, and Jamie at the Hospital, 1990
Frankie goes to the hospital to talk to John about her second thoughts about tailing Sharlene for him. John tells Frankie he doesn't want Frankie to spy on Sharlene. He just wants another opinion; Frankie knows when Sharlene isn't being herself. Frankie says that she and Sharlene aren't on the best of terms right now, and if Sharlene finds out Frankie is following her, Sharlene will go through the roof. John says he wouldn't ask Frankie to do this if there were any other alternative. There's something seriously wrong with Sharlene, and John wants to know what it is. Frankie asks what, exactly, John thinks is wrong with Sharlene. John replies that he doesn't want to say until he knows for sure. Frankie then asks what John thinks she will find out. John replies maybe there's nothing to find out. Thinking that John thinks Sharlene is having an affair, Frankie tells John that he's way off base because Sharlene would never even look at another man. Sharlene's marriage means everything to her. John says that a lot of times Sharlene is different, and it's not the hypoglycemia that's making her look at John like a stranger, pick fights, and storm out of the house with no explanation. All John is asking is that Frankie stay close to Sharlene and tell John if Sharlene is okay. Frankie finally agrees, but insists that there won't be any sneaky stuff. Frankie says maybe Sharlene can help her shop for Frankie and Cass's wedding,. She does miss Sharlene, and Frankie counts on her for these kinds of things. John thanks Frankie, and tells her not to put any stock in what Sharlene has said lately because she hasn't been herself. On her way out, Frankie runs into Jamie, who apologizes for missing her and Cass's engagement party. Frankie tells Jamie he can make it up to her at her wedding, and she'll save him a dance.

Cass, Stacey, and Derek, 1990
Cass arrives at the law office at the tail end of an argument Stacey and Derek are having. Cass offers to come back tomorrow, but Derek says he was just leaving, and goes. When Cass asks what that was all about, Stacey tells him it's the same old fight. She thought that moving in with Derek would make things better, but she's so unhappy. Cass says he can see that, and he's afraid that Stacey will just have to face facts: she and Derek are not exactly a match made in heaven.

Cass Reprimands Stacey for Verbally Attacking Donna, 1990
Cass tells Donna that he has nothing new to report on Mikey's case. The Millers (Mikey's biological parents) are still dealing with the last batch of papers he threw at them, but they're doing everything they possibly can. Donna asks if they're interviewing the baby-sitter that the Millers say kidnapped Mikey. Cass says they have to go by the deposition because the baby-sitter moved away about a year ago, but Frankie has gone over the police report, and the Millers' version checks out. Donna says that just because the Millers are poor doesn't mean they aren't lying. She knows there's a hole in their story; they just have to find it. Cass assures Donna that they will investigate completely. Stacey butts in then and asks Donna if she'll make something up if the Millers are telling the truth because the Millers can't afford a long court battle. Stacey accuses Donna and Michael of using their money to try and scare the Millers off and keep Mikey away from his real parents. Cass tells Stacey to back off, but she keeps going. Donna gets angry and tells Stacey that as far as Donna is concerned, she is Mikey's real mother. Stacey says that obviously Eve Miller feels differently. Donna says that she is the only mother Mikey has ever known, and she would never let anyone walk off with Mikey the way Eve Miller did. Cass then yells at Stacey and tells her she's out of line, and doesn't Stacey have work to do? Cass apologizes to Donna and assures her that if the Millers were negligent, the court will know about it before they decide Mikey's future. Donna tells Cass to hire all the help he needs; all she and Michael are concerned about is giving Mikey the best life possible. Cass promises to call Donna as soon as he knows anything. After Donna leaves, Cass asks Stacey where she gets off judging his client like that. Stacey tells Cass that he's on the wrong side this time. Cass tells Stacey that if she wants to fight with Derek, fight with Derek, but leave Cass's clients alone. Cass doesn't want Stacey dragging her bad moods into the office, because it's very unprofessional. Stacey says it won't happen again. Cass warns Stacey that it better not. Stacey says she's going to get out of the office for a while. She promised Frankie she would meet Frankie at A La Mode and help her pick out a wedding dress.

Frankie and Sharly at the Dress Shop, 1990
Frankie arrives at A La Mode, the dress shop, for her appointment to try on wedding dresses. Sharly is in one of the changing rooms, since she and Grant were shopping there, and Grant leaves without getting a response from Frankie. Sharly has to pretend to be Sharlene to Frankie, and asks Frankie what she's doing there. Frankie is still upset about their fight the other day. Sharly says that she got so upset because Emma had been in her house too long, recleaning the cleaning and recooking the cooking, and that she didn't mean all the stuff she said. She asks Frankie to forgive her, and Frankie says, "You know I do," and they hug. Sharly asks again what Frankie is doing there. Frankie replies that Stacey talked her out of trying on dresses at the thrift shop, and she asks Sharlene to stay because Sharlene knows Frankie's style better than Stacey, and this is making Frankie really nervous. Then Frankie notices what Sharly is holding--a black teddy. Frankie makes a fuss over the teddy and says that John is going to go berserk over it.

Cass and Frankie 1990--That's Not Your Dress. It's All Wrong.
Stacey comes rushing into the dress shop apologizing for being late. Frankie complains that the dresses at the shop are going to make her look like Scarlett O'Hara. Sharly says that now that the reserves are here, she's going to leave, and insists on leaving even though Frankie asks her to stay. Sharly says she'll see Frankie later, and then leaves. Stacey picks out a dress for Frankie to try on. Frankie's not thrilled with the dress, though, because it has a train and she's afraid she'll trip and fall on her face at the altar. Frankie holds the dress Stacey chose up to herself and imagines herself in it, waltzing with Cass at their wedding. She then imagines herself tripping and falling. When she comes back to the present, groaning, "Oh no," she sees the smiling Cass standing there. Frankie asks Cass what he's doing there and reminds him that he's not supposed to see her wedding dress; what is he trying to do, jinx her? Cass tells Frankie that he missed her, then adds, "And don't worry. That's not your dress."
"It isn't?" Frankie asks.
"Nah. It's all wrong," Cass replies.
They banter a bit about a veil Cass found (Frankie tells him he'll look beautiful in it), and Frankie tells Cass she can't shop for a wedding dress with him there, but Cass says he's not leaving until he gets what he came for. Frankie asks what that is, and Cass replies by kissing her. As they continue to kiss, Stacey makes herself scarce.

Frankie Talks to John About Sharlene, 1990
John decides to call The Pelican Club and see if Sharlene is there, but he's surprised when Frankie, who dropped by The Pelican after her first wedding-dress shopping trip, comes to the phone instead. Frankie says she heard a waitress calling for Sharlene, but Frankie hasn't seen her, although Frankie did just arrive. Frankie tells John that Sharlene is probably on her way home, and adds that she saw Sharlene, who was in a great mood, at the dress shop today and that John should get home because Sharlene has a surprise for him, and he has a very nice evening in store, so have fun.

Frankie and Sharly at The Pelican Club, 1990
Frankie spots Sharlene at The Pelican Club in a fancy sequinned dress, but it's actually Sharly, who asks Frankie what she's doing there. Frankie replies that she just came by to say hi. Sharly says they just did that a couple of hours ago. Frankie then says she has something to ask Sharlene, and wants to know if Sharlene will be her matron of honor. Sharly says they already talked about that, then asks if Frankie is following her around and tells Frankie not to lie to her. Frankie says she never could lie to Sharlene, and admits that she and John are worried about Sharlene, and Frankie thought it would be a good idea if they spent more time together. Sharly accuses John of asking Frankie spy on her. Frankie says she wouldn't do that. Sharly angrily tells Frankie to go check in and tell John she saw her, then says she wants Frankie out of there because Frankie double-crossed her. She wants Frankie to get out of there and leave her alone. Frankie apologizes. Sharly then apologizes and says she shouldn't have yelled at Frankie. Frankie says Sharlene has been yelling at her a lot lately. Sharly says that it's been very busy tonight and the last thing she needed was to know that John is worried. John is always worried lately, and everybody wants her to make it her problem lately. Frankie says she guesses she should be going, but she'll see Sharlene soon.

Frankie and John Talk at the Farm, 1990
After leaving The Pelican Club, Frankie goes to the farm, where she finds John heating the only leftovers from the fridge that weren't moldy. She tells him that she saw Sharlene at The Pelican and she's afraid she completely blew it because she and Sharlene kind of got into it because... John asks if Sharlene was hostile and tried to get rid of Frankie. Frankie asks how John knew that. John replies that he's been there. Frankie says she's never seen Sharlene like that, except for last week when she yelled at Frankie about Emma. John apologizes for getting Frankie involved in this. Frankie says that Sharlene was in a great mood earlier at the dress shop, buying a little teddy to surprise John, and then tonight she was a completely different person. John says that's been happening a lot lately. Frankie asks John what he's going to do. John doesn't know, but he tells Frankie not to worry about it, and to go home to Cass. John and Sharlene will work this out together. Frankie says she knows they will, and leaves after saying she'll see John soon.

Cass and Frankie at Amanda's Birthday Party, 1990
Josie was stalking herself in order to remain in the public eye after being named the Sophisticate Girl in November 1989, and her scheme carried over to Amanda's birthday party. Josie sent a broken doll to the party, but Amanda opened it by mistake and was so shaken that she had to leave her own party. In these scenes, Cass and Frankie are left to deal with the aftermath--Josie refuses to be intimidated; Reuben is reluctantly keeping Josie's secret; Matt and Mitch are blaming everything on Lucas; and Matt vows to stay with Josie constantly after taking his last exam in a few days, meaning he'll turn down an internship that meant everything to him in order to protect her. Cass tries to defend Lucas, and Frankie tells Matt that he can't go after the stalker, but Matt refuses to listen to either of them. When Mitch and Felicia start arguing about Lucas again, Cass and Frankie excuse themselves, because this is a fight in which they have no part.

Cass and Frankie 1990--Lunch Hour Banter, and a Bid on the House
One of my favorite Cass and Frankie scenes! Frankie drags Cass away from his hour-old tuna sandwich on rye and up to the bedroom on his lunch hour. Banter ensues, and romance quickly follows, but what happens when Cass learns that Frankie put in a bid on the house they saw last week and didn't tell him? Well...

Cass and Frankie 1990--You Have Somebody Who Really Loves You Now
Guaranteed to make you melt! Frankie wonders why she didn't tell Cass about the bid. It was wrong, and it was stupid; she would have had to tell him eventually if anything happened, which she doubts it will because the bid was so low. Cass tells Frankie that he knows why she didn't tell him: it's because she isn't used to getting loving support from someone. Frankie admits that she's not used to that. Cass holds her as he muses that Frankie has been swimming upstream her whole life, bucking Emma's disapproval, and the people in the small town she grew up in weren't exactly what you'd call open-minded. Frankie agrees that Mama has not been an overt supporter, and the minds of the townsfolk shut down at the county line. Cass continues that Frankie told that little world to go to hell and reinvented herself. Yes, Frankie agrees again, she did. She had to. Cass tells her that those days are over: "You have somebody who really loves you now. So no more reinventing, okay?"
"Okay," Frankie replies.
"It's you and me, kid," Cass says. "I'm gonna back you in whatever you want, so get used to that."
"Whatever I want?" Frankie asks, love and light shining in her eyes as she looks at Cass.
"Uh oh," Cass says with a laugh. But then he gets serious again: "Yeah, anything and everything," he promises.
Frankie asks Cass what he would think if she turned the barn behind the house into a spiritual retreat. Cass replies that zoning laws prohibit ashrams within a five-mile radius... Frankie tells him to go ahead and laugh, she doesn't care. But they are interrupted when the phone rings. Frankie answers it. It's the realtor. When she hangs up, she lays her head on Cass's chest and tells him that someone outbid her and they lost the house. Cass's reaction is to smile. Notice the realtor did not say WHO outbid Frankie.

Cass and Frankie 1990--The House Is Ours
Another scene I love so well! At TOPS, Cass and Frankie discuss the house that Frankie thinks they lost...and she gets a wonderful surprise when Cass tells her that the other bid was theirs together, which he made, and the house is theirs. I just LOVE Frankie's reaction!
