Hey, everybody!

I think I forgot to write you about the clips from a couple of weeks ago, so I'll put those in here as well. Thanks to Janie for the clips from 1993.

Iris, Hank, and Tommy--Tommy the Valentine Elf

Iris and Hank take Tommy to Bay City General so he can play Valentine Elf for his friends on pediatrics and intensive care. Tommy is excited about bringing balloons and gifts to his friends, explaining that you need a break in your routine when you're in the hospital for a long time, and that his friends will freak when they see him with hair. When Hank says that Tommy should have dressed as Cupid, with a diaper and a bow and arrow, Tommy says that grown-ups are so corny sometimes. After Tommy heads off to distribute his gifts, Hank confesses to Iris that he's glad Tommy didn't want them to go along with him, because the last time Hank was on this floor of the hospital, he saw a man sitting at his son's hospital bedside reading to him, and all he could think was that he could be that man and the kid could be Tommy. Iris says it's a miracle the way Tommy's life has turned around. Hank says his life has turned around, too; it's not to not have to put his life on hold, and to be able to make plans again. Iris replies that Tommy told her Hank bought some new fishing reels, and it's the first time Hank has bought anything for himself in ages. Hank tells Iris those weren't exactly the kind of plans he meant. He was talking about him and Iris here. Iris smiles and says she never thought she'd hear Hank say it. Hank tells Iris he shut down a big part of himself before he met her, but now he's feeling things he never thought he'd feel again. Iris replies that she's also feeling things she never thought she'd feel again. She's trying very hard to be honest in this relationship, and there are all sorts of firsts for her. Hank says there are a lot of firsts for her too, then hugs and Iris and tells her this isn't happening just because of Tommy. Iris replies that she knows that, but Tommy made it possible for her to see all the bits of Hank that he tried so hard to hide. Hank replies that he can say the same about Iris. Then Hank wonders if Tommy knows what's really going on between Hank and Iris, or if Hank should be more upfront with him. Iris asks what, exactly, it is that Hank wants to tell Tommy. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Hank and Iris--Let's Not Hide From This Anymore

Hank tells Iris he didn't forget about Valentine's Day. Iris says that she did forget, but Hank continues that he looked through several cards trying to find one that wouldn't embarrass her. Iris asks how Hank did, and Hank replies, "You tell me," then pulls her card from his pocket and hands it to her. Beaming, Iris thanks Hank. He wants to go and get them coffee while she reads it, but she refuses to let him and sits him down before she opens the card and reads it. Iris loves the card, which is simple, heartfelt, and reflective of Hank's feelings for her. He admits the card is kind of sappy, but if you can't be sappy on Valentine's Day, when can you be? Iris tells Hank she'll treasure the card always. Hank says he'd like to add some things to it, like how he feels when he looks in the mirror every morning and the guy shaving is smiling back at him. Hank tells Iris, "Let's not hide from this anymore." Iris asks about the boys at work; can Hank handle them knowing about him and Iris? Hank reminds Iris that he's changing and kisses her. Then he asks if he's told her how beautiful she is and kisses her again. Their kissing is interrupted by Hank's ex, Tommy's mother, Sheri, who says she wants to speak to her husband. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Hank and Iris Argue With Sheri; Tommy Returns

Hank asks Sheri what she's doing at the hospital. She replies that Tommy told her he'd be there, and adds that she wants to talk to Hank about Tommy privately. Iris offers to leave Hank and Sheri alone, but Hank insists that Iris stay, adding that Iris has Tommy's best interests at heart. Sheri sarcastically says that Iris has been Hank and Tommy's guardian angel, hasn't she? Hank asks Sheri what she wants. Sheri wants to talk about where Tommy's going to live, saying Hank has had him for a long time. Hank reminds Sheri that was her call. Sheri says she is still Tommy's mother and she loves him. Hank retorts that Sheri loves Tommy now that it's easy. Sheri says she has always loved Tommy, and he loves her. Hank asks if Sheri has been talking this over with Tommy. She casually replies that she brought it up a couple of times. Hank lashes out at Sheri for trying to make Tommy choose between his parents, saying that Sheri won't even let Tommy be healthy for a few weeks without giving him something else to worry about. Sheri says that Tommy needs to know that she wants him in his life. Tommy returns from playing Valentine Elf in time to hear Hank ask Sheri how long it's going to last this time. Tommy asks what's going on. Sheri says she was just trying to have a conversation with Hank. Iris asks if Tommy's friends liked the gifts. He says yes, then asks if Hank and Sheri are fighting again. Hank tells Tommy he'll explain later and goes with Tommy to hand out the rest of his stuff. Hank asks Iris to wait for him and Tommy. Sheri tells Hank this discussion isn't over. Iris is going to wait in her hospital office for Hank and Tommy, but Sheri tells her to hold it right there, because they need to talk too. Iris says she doesn't think Sheri wants to hear what she has to say and prepares to leave, and if Sheri wasn't Tommy's mother... Sheri asks what Iris would do in that case, tear up Sheri's invitation to one of Iris's fancy charity events? Iris calls Sheri a piece of work (although, she adds, she doesn't know if that's more of an insult to Sheri or to Hank) when Sheri accuses her of slipping Hank $100 bills every time they go out to dinner. Sheri hotly retorts that Sheri's family isn't a company that Iris can take over. Iris reminds Sheri that Sheri walked out and abandoned her family, and as far as Iris can see, they're much happier now than they ever were when Sheri was around. Sheri asks what Iris knows about it. Iris pulled the rug out from under them when she laid off Sheri's husband. Then Iris hired him back once she got the hots for him. Iris tells Sheri to go ahead and blame her; Iris doesn't care. Sheri can hate Iris as much as she likes, because it doesn't change who Sheri is and what Sheri did to Tommy and Hank. Sheri talks about Hank and Tommy as if they're her private property. When Sheri says she gave birth to Tommy, Iris replies that that doesn't give Sheri any excuse to try and use Tommy to hurt Hank. Iris gets really angry after Sheri says she doesn't expect Iris to understand Sheri's side. Iris asks what about Tommy's side? Hasn't that little boy been through enough? What is Sheri going to do now, tear Tommy apart again, make him her private battleground? Sheri says she has papers that say she is Hank's legal wife and Tommy's mother, and Iris can go ask one of her fancy lawyer friends if Iris thinks that doesn't count for anything in this state. Iris says she doesn't need a lawyer to show her any piece of paper that makes any woman a wife and mother. Sheri calls Iris a bitch and slaps her across the face. Iris asks if Sheri feels better now. Sheri replies that she does, and she intends to feel a lot better before she's through, and then Sheri leaves. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Hank and Tommy Discuss Sheri; Iris Returns

Hank and Tommy return to the waiting area after distributing the rest of Tommy's gifts, and no one is there. Hank remarks that Sheri must have decided not to wait. Tommy wants to know what Hank and Sheri were fighting about. Hank asks Tommy to sit down, and Tommy replies that it must be serious. When Hank says it is, Tommy thinks that Sheri told Hank that Tommy wants to take karate. This is news to Hank, though. Hank tells Tommy that Sheri wants Tommy to come and stay with her for a while. Tommy says that Sheri has been hinting around about that. Hank asks Tommy how he feels about it. Tommy asks how he should know. He hasn't even seen where Sheri is living. When Hank says Sheri wants to show her place to Tommy, Tommy asks if Hank and Sheri already decided about this. Hank assures Tommy they did not, because Tommy and Hank are a team. But Sheri loves Tommy, too, and she wants Tommy to have his own room at her new place. Iris has returned by now and observes as Tommy gets very upset and tells Hank he is not going to Sheri's, not even for a visit, and Hank can't force him to go. Hank says he would never do that to Tommy, but he thought it might be something Tommy wanted. Tommy firmly tells his father that it isn't, then says he doesn't want to talk about it. Tommy asks who would take care of Hank if Tommy went with Sheri. Hank replies that he'd manage. Tommy says I.W. might take Hank on, now that Tommy's feeling better. Hank says yeah, she just might do that, if they're real lucky. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Tommy Already Knows That Hank and Iris Are Boyfriend and Girlfriend

Iris greets Hank and Tommy. Hank offers to take Tommy and Iris out to dinner. Tommy quickly agrees, as long as they don't eat in the hospital cafeteria. Iris tells Hank she thinks now would be a good time to tell Tommy what they were talking about, and Hank agrees. So Hank starts to tell Tommy how he and Iris got to know each other because of Tommy, and they not only care about Tommy, they now care about each other. Iris starts to add that what Hank is trying to say... Tommy interrupts Iris to say that he already knows Iris is his dad's girlfriend! "I'd have to be really stupid not to know that," Tommy continues to the shocked couple. "I knew Super Spence didn't stand a chance against my dad." Kids aren't as dumb as grown-ups think they are. Hank is relieved. Tommy made a Valentine card for Hank and Iris, and they both love it. Iris tells Tommy she loves him too, kisses his cheek, and then kisses Hank. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Douglas Carson Dies

Cass and Frankie wait with Christy while Douglas is in surgery. When Christy says this is endless, Cass says he gets more hopeful the longer they wait. Christy says she can't be hopeful, but she's grateful they're trying to save Douglas. Cass goes to check and see if Douglas is out of the OR yet. After Cass leaves to check, Christy asks Frankie how she's holding up. Frankie replies that she's kind of numb. The way that heart attack came on Douglas was pretty scary. Christy asks Frankie what happened, saying she's calm now, so she can hear it. Frankie says one minute she was talking to Douglas, the next minute he could hardly take a breath. Christy says that's how it happens, and now Frankie must see why Christy is overprotective of Douglas. Frankie says she always understood Christy's overprotectiveness. Frankie continues that when Douglas couldn't breathe, she called 911 and she made him use his oxygen mask, but he kept trying to talk. The EMS team came right away. Christy tells Frankie she will always be grateful that Frankie was there with Douglas. Christy then asks why Douglas called Frankie and asked her to come over. Frankie replies that she's not sure. Christy says she knows that Douglas's illness made him say strange and hurtful things, and that he's losing his grip. Frankie says no, Douglas didn't say anything strange or hurtful, and he is not losing his mind. But, Frankie says, Douglas IS very deeply upset about something. Christy says Douglas is very worried about her. Christy asks if Frankie is sure Douglas didn't say what was bothering him. Frankie thinks Douglas wanted to, but they never got that far. Frankie and Christy don't see Cass, John, and Daryl Beckett right away as they emerge from the OR area. Frankie tells Christy that she thinks they should have the paperwork here so they can do what Douglas wanted, and she offers to go and get it if Christy will tell her where it is. Christy tearfully pleads with Frankie not to go because she doesn't want to be alone, and asks Frankie to just wait until the surgery is over. Frankie agrees. Cass then calls Christy's name, and she and Frankie both turn to look. Daryl Beckett breaks the news to Christy that Douglas has died. Frankie catches Christy before she can hit the floor as she does the whole "Noooooo!" yelling/crying thing. (Of course, we all know that she's not really such a grieving widow, she's more a continuing-to-come-undone psychopath.) Beckett tells Christy they did everything they possibly could. Cass extends his sympathies to Christy. Christy says she knew this was coming, but she's not prepared for this. Christy asks to see Douglas, and Beckett agrees and goes to tell the nurses to let Christy see Douglas. John offers his sympathies to Christy. As Cass takes charge of Christy, John tells Frankie not to blame herself, because she did everything she possibly could. Frankie thanks John, then tells him she should be with Christy, and then she goes to back up Cass with Christy. Frankie tells Christy that she and Cass are here for Christy. Christy is very touchy-feely with Cass, running her hands along his shoulders and the back of his neck (see what I mean about not being a sincere grieving widow?), and then she breaks down crying again as she says Cass and Frankie are all she has left and hugs Cass. Frankie gets in on the hug from the side. And so the nightmare Christy tries to wreak in their lives, and the two of them having to fight this psychopath for their very life together, begins for Cass and Frankie. They just don't know yet that this is where it started...but they'll find out. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Rachel, Paulina, Jake and Sloane at KBAY--Teamwork

Rachel tells Paulina that the syndication deal is important for everyone, and she wants the station to run like a team. Paulina advises her to tell that to her quarterback, then, because Sloane is calling all the shots. Rachel replies that she knows Paulina too well; she knows that Paulina is going to put her best foot forward today, and she wants to thank Paulina in advance. After Rachel excuses herself, Jake rushes up and asks Paulina to please tell him everything is ready for Jenna's show, and Sloane isn't somewhere with her Valentine stuffed in her mouth. Paulina replies that she had Sloane cremated before the cameraman got there. Jake says that's not funny and adds that today could make or break them, and then he asks Paulina to please make nice to Sloane for him. Sloane arrives then, greets Jake, and tells Paulina she needs an IV of caffeine; can Paulina handle it? Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake, Paulina, and Sloane at KBAY--Bullslingers in Action

Paulina agrees to get Sloane's coffee but says that Sloane might want to call Allied Press Service first, because they want a couple of quotes from Jenna's interview with teenage heartthrob Perry Marlin today. Jake asks when all this happened; Allied is a nighttime press service. Paulina replies that they called last night...or maybe it was this morning. Paulina's been at the station practically all night. Sloane praises Paulina for this. Jake says it looks like someone is really on top of things. Paulina says that's what makes the team work, right? Sloane says she'll call Allied and give them the exclusive on the syndication deal with Griff. Jake says that's IF they get it. Sloane says they'll get it; replacing Felicia is the smartest thing Sloane ever did. After Sloane leaves, Jake isn't buying Paulina's niceness to Sloane and tells Paulina she is such a bullslinger. Paulina asks if she's as good as Jake. After Paulina hurries off to attend to some of the many details before Jenna's show, Jake rhetorically asks why he feels like today is going to be the worst day of his life. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Dean, Jenna, and Felicia at KBAY--Morning Sickness and Meetings

At KBAY, Dean is worried about Jenna's severe morning sickness, and he wants to tell Felicia about their baby after Cass and Frankie's wedding. Jenna tells him the only goal she has for tonight is for Felicia to wow Marvin Griff and get her show back. Dean reminds Jenna that Felicia doesn't even know yet that Jenna arranged for Griff to meet Felicia. But Jenna insists that Felicia will wow Griff's socks off, and promises that she'll tell her mother about the pregnancy after that. Felicia arrives then and tells Jenna she came as soon as she got Jenna's message, but then asks what's wrong, because Jenna looks terrible. Is she sick? Jenna insists to Felicia that she's fine, then tells her about the meeting she set up for Felicia with Marvin Griff. Dean helps Jenna in talking up the meeting and all its possibilities to Felicia. Felicia is very touched and says she doesn't even care if it works. She can't believe Jenna did this for her. Felicia hugs Jenna and tells her she doesn't know what she would do without out. Jenna asks if that means Felicia will meet with Griff. Felicia says she already knows him, which makes Jenna even more enthusiastic. Felicia has to go over to Cass and Frankie's house (Dean says he does too), but promises that they'll plan her strategy when she returns to the station. After Felicia leaves, Jenna hurries to get a cracker from a desk drawer. Dean tells her they have to tell Felicia about Jenna's pregnancy, but Jenna insists on not saying anything until after Felicia gets her show back. Maybe then everyone will get off this alcohol trip, because if Felicia's happy, she's not going to need to drink, right? Dean looks doubtful. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Postponing Their Wedding Again

Cass makes Frankie a cup of tea, then joins her on the window seat and tries to comfort her as she tells him that last night, she could feel Douglas slipping away and there wasn't a single thing she could do. Cass tells her that she was there with Douglas, and he's sure Douglas felt that. Frankie says she knows that Douglas wanted to die with dignity, and she wanted that for him, but while it was happening, she wanted Douglas to make it through and stay with them. Cass tells Frankie that Douglas is in their hearts and always will be and kisses her cheek. Frankie wanted Douglas at her and Cass's wedding, though. Cass wraps his arms around his beloved as she says she wanted all of their friends at their wedding, and she doesn't know what they should do. Cass asks if Frankie thinks they should postpone the wedding, not get married today since Douglas died last night. Frankie says nothing but turns her head, and Cass rests his forehead against her temple, his arms still around her. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Ryan Arrives; Christy Says She Killed Douglas

Frankie says she hates to postpone their wedding, but what else can they do? Cass assures Frankie that it's okay. Frankie says that Douglas and Christy had such a special love, and no matter how much stress they were under, you could always see it in their eyes. Cass agrees and says it's such a shame that things turned out the way they did. Ryan arrives then, trumpeting the arrival of the flowers for the wedding. Ryan adds that he promises from his heart that this time, he will not kidnap the bride. He's all smiles, but Frankie and Cass aren't, and Frankie is just about to tell Ryan that there isn't going to be a wedding today when Christy comes downstairs in her bathrobe. Frankie goes to Christy and puts her arms around her and offers to make her some tea, but Christy doesn't want anything. Ryan asks what's going on, and Cass tells him they're going to have to postpone the wedding. Frankie says that she and Cass agree that postponing the wedding is the right thing to do. Christy says Douglas wouldn't want that. Ryan asks again what's going on. Cass says that Douglas passed away last night. Ryan tells Christy he's sorry. Christy tells Cass to spare the euphemisms. Douglas didn't pass away; Christy killed him. (Oh, if only they had taken her seriously at this point!) Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--John Arrives, Christy Cries, and Then Felicia Arrives

Cass tells Christy that she did nothing to cause Douglas's death. (Please tell me I'm not the only one impatient for Cass to find out how wrong he is about this!) Christy says if she hadn't argued with Douglas, he'd still be alive today and starts to cry. Cass tells her not to do this. The doorbell rings and Frankie answers it. It's John. He sees Christy crying, and Frankie tells him that Christy is a mess and she thinks she's responsible for Douglas's death. Frankie asks John to talk to Christy, and he agrees to try. John tells Christy he knows this is hard, but she'll only make it harder by blaming herself. Christy insists that she did this to Douglas, saying she knows how worked up he gets about her, and she was with him hours before it happened. John says no, Christy did not do this; Douglas had dilated congestive cardiomyopathy, a disease that should have killed him years ago, and it's a credit to Christy and her good care that Douglas lasted this long. Cass and Frankie are standing in each other's arms watching this, and Ryan is standing near them also watching, as Christy tells John that Douglas was a brilliant man and he deserved more than this from her, and she would have given it to him if she'd had another chance. Then Felicia arrives and asks if they could have asked for a more perfect day. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass Advises Amanda About Divorce, 1990

Cass is shocked that Amanda is considering divorcing Sam. They just talked about Sam having Amanda's power of attorney not long ago. Amanda replies that things have just gotten really bad in the past few days, and she isn't even sure this is the right thing to do. Cass says that divorce is such a definitive final solution and asks if Amanda and Sam have seen a marriage counselor. Amanda tells him it's too late for that. Cass asks what Sam has done. Amanda stumbles a bit before finally saying it's more than just one thing. When Cass tells Amanda that he's really gotten to know Sam in the past couple of years and he knows that Sam loves her, and that he talked about how hard he's working on their marriage when he and Cass discussed the power of attorney, Amanda says she doesn't want to discuss personal things today. Cass retorts that divorce IS a personal thing. Amanda says she needs to know what her options are legally, and she asks Cass to promise that he won't tell anyone, not even Rachel. Cass assures Amanda that everything will be between prospective client and attorney, but tells Amanda that he does want her to give it some more thought. He gives Amanda some literature on when to file for divorce and tells her to take a look at it; it spells out everything clearly, including warning her not to move too quickly on this. Amanda promises to read it. Cass says if Amanda still wants to proceed, then call him and they'll talk. Amanda has to get going, but before she does she congratulates Cass on his engagement to Frankie, saying Cass must love Frankie very much. He tells Amanda he does. Amanda says being in love is wonderful.

Frankie and Evan Talk, 1990

Frankie visits Evan and jubilantly tells him to keep somewhere around the 4th of July open on his calendar. Evan asks if Frankie and Cass set a date for their wedding, and Frankie is beaming as she exclaims that they did and asks if Cass called Evan. Evan says no, Cass didn't call; it's written all over Frankie's face. The cousins hug, and Evan congratulates Frankie and tells her to let him know if she needs anything. They then start talking about their extended family. Frankie says she's not close to her brothers and she's not sure how many relatives will be at the wedding, because so many of them will either be working too hard or broke... "Or dead," Evan says. Frankie agrees, and says that's what makes them the weirdos that they are. Evan wonders how some of the Frames have managed to stay alive. Frankie wonders why everyone in the Frame family has had to fight like crazy just to have a good life. Evan says it's a very lonely existence, growing up that way. He used to think it didn't matter, but then he'd be somewhere, and something would happen, and he'd realize it does matter. Frankie says she never quite believes it when something good happens to her. Evan says the Frames are never happy; they always want more, and they never appreciate what's right in front of them. But not Frankie. She's not like that. She's in love, she's about to marry this great, successful guy...not bad for a Frame. Frankie beams and says isn't that something. Then Evan tells Frankie he's going to let her in on a little secret: things are working out for him. Frankie says she thought Amanda told Evan it was over. Evan replies that Amanda is definitely leaving Sam. He's positive about that. Frankie tells Evan he's been hurt in the past and she'd hate to see him hurt again. Evan tells his cousin that he's sure of one thing this time: he's not going to lose.
