Hey, everybody!
Thanks to Janie for the 1993 scenes. Felicia is continuing to self-destruct, and Cass and Frankie take some time to be Cass and Frankie in the midst of all the insanity surrounding them, while Jake winds up on Spencer's hit list, Ryan argues with Brett about Vicky, and everyone but Sloane Wallace is amused by Sloane's green hair. And in 1990, Cass and Frankie have one custody case, and two legal dilemmas, to deal with for the Hudsons and the Corys, respectively, and finally nail down what kind of wedding they want.
Ryan and Brett at the Batting Cages
Ryan and Brett almost kiss at the batting cages, but Brett pulls away at the last minute and wants to work on Ryan's batting stance. This leads the duo to a squabble which ends when Ryan insists Brett come with him because he has something to show her. She tells Ryan she doesn't want to see anything he has to show her, but he merely replies that she's going to get a life lesson and herds her along ahead of him. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

The Taping of Jenna's Talk Show--Part 1
Jake accuses Paulina of being responsible for Sloane's hair being green, but Paulina denies that she had anything to do with it. Jake is skeptical. Dean is feeding the extremely nauseous Jenna crackers when Paulina shoos him off the set. Dean confides in Paulina that Felicia knows that Jenna is pregnant. Jenna's taping begins, and offstage, Paulina asks Dean why he told Felicia about the pregnancy. Dean is in the middle of telling Paulina that he didn't tell Felicia when Felicia arrives to view the taping. Jake is trying to tell Sloane about her hair when Spencer Harrison shows up and demands to talk to Jake immediately, so Jake follows Spencer outside. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Jake and Spencer--A View of Ambition
Jake and Spencer cross swords over what really happened the night of Grant and Vicky's wedding. Spencer insists it's none of Jake's business, but Jake counters that since Grant is a United States Senator and Jake is a taxpayer, Jake and every other taxpayer has a right to know what Spencer and his family are covering up. Jake lays out his theory about Spencer taking responsibility for making up to Ryan for the bad choices Spencer made early on and trying to stop Ryan's brother from marrying the love of Ryan's life. Spencer says that Jake's ambition is overwhelming, which Spencer does not mean as a compliment, and warns Jake that if he takes the short view instead of the long view, his ambition could be wasted, and asks if Jake is really that dumb. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

The Taping of Jenna's Talk Show--Part 2
Dean is not amused when Jenna's guest, Perry Marlin, flirts with her and asks her out on a date. Paulina remarks that Perry is slicker than Jake, and she thought that was humanly impossible. Jenna tells Perry he'll have to ask her boyfriend if he can take her out. Dean tells Perry he cannot take Jenna out. Sloane talks up Jenna to Marvin Griff and is surprised to learn that Marvin and Jenna have already met when she tries to introduce them. Dean tries to pull Jenna away to tell her that Felicia knows about the pregnancy, but Felicia arrives before that can happen. Felicia alerts Sloane to her green hair in front of everyone else, to Sloane's mortification. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Ryan and Brett--Is Vicky in Danger?
Ryan shows Brett his senior yearbook, and we learn that his full name is Ryan Kirkland Harrison (I had always wondered about that, myself) and that he was both a brain and a jock in high school, since he was in the Chess Club, Glee Club, French Club, Mock United Nations, and was a Merit Scholar, in addition to playing lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and being an all-county baseball pitcher. Brett says that's why Ryan can't hit: he was concentrating on his pitching, and pitchers can never swing the bat well anyway. Ryan shows Brett the trophy he won for hitting in Pee Wee League baseball. Brett says all that proves is that Ryan could hit when he was 10 years old. The conversation takes an unexpected turn when Ryan starts going through his mail and finds a postcard from the Canadian Rockies that says "It's not over." Brett realizes that Grant and Vicky are in the Canadian Rockies on their honeymoon. Ryan finally confirms it after Brett says she knows that Ryan would know where they were going. Brett tries to reassure Ryan that this was just the work of somebody who recognized Grant and Vicky and threw a postcard in the mail to make Ryan lose his mind, but she gets angry when she sees how agitated and worried Ryan is about Vicky. She asks him if he's going to Canada to find Grant and Vicky, and he says he doesn't know what he's doing yet. Brett doesn't buy that and tells Ryan that it's up to Grant to protect Vicky now, not Ryan, because Vicky is Grant's wife, not Ryan's. Ryan asks Brett what she knows about how he's feeling. Brett retorts that she likes Ryan, and for a minute earlier, she almost liked him as more than a friend, but she's not going to let herself get attached to him when he's still so hung up on Vicky, and if he's still that much in love with Vicky, why didn't he tell Vicky that before she said "I do" to Grant? Then Brett storms out. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Felicia Blasts Jenna for Keeping Her Pregnancy From Felicia
Sloane runs off after her green hair is revealed, and Paulina arrives right after Sloane's departure, followed closely by Jake, to whisk Marvin Griff away to talk to Jake. When Felicia, Dean, and Jenna are alone together, Jenna tells Felicia that she doesn't know how it happened, but Felicia is drunk. Felicia ignores that and proceeds to blast Jenna for her deception in not telling Felicia about her pregnancy, despite Dean's efforts to keep things calm. Dean admits that Felicia found out about the pregnancy, but Felicia steamrolls right over Dean to continue blasting Jenna for cutting Felicia out of her life. She also accuses Jenna of stealing her job, and really rakes her younger daughter over the coals before storming off. Despite being in tears by this time, Jenna still wants to go after Felicia because she's in no condition to drive, but Dean stops her by assuring her that Felicia has a driver waiting outside. Jenna asks what she's going to do before falling into Dean's arms crying. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Cass and Frankie 1993--Christy Toasts to Douglas
Christy insists that Cass and Frankie join her in a champagne toast to Douglas in celebration of his life and what he left behind for all of them. Christy guzzles her entire glass of champagne and rhetorically asks, "Isn't that better? Isn't champagne wonderful?" Cass suggests they go easy on the champagne. Christy says she can't believe they're using the champagne to toast her dead husband instead of Cass and Frankie's marriage. At this point, Frankie steers Christy to the couch to sit down and sits down with her. Christy wants to have Douglas's memorial service at the university chapel. Frankie wants to talk about it tomorrow, but Christy wants to talk about it now, and talks about how popular Douglas was on campus. Christy then says she can't even remember what her life was like before she had Douglas, and she doesn't think she can go back. Frankie tells Christy that she doesn't have to go back, she can move on. Frankie says that she and Cass will take care of Christy. Cass looks on as Frankie hugs Christy. Cass and Frankie 1993--Frankie and I Will Always Be Together. It Doesn't Matter When We Get Married.
Oh, if only Christy would have listened when Cass said this, because he meant it and was completely and totally serious.
Frankie fixes Christy some tea, and Christy talks about how Douglas drank gallons of Frankie's tea because he said it soothed him. Cass tells Christy it will take a while for everything to sink in. Christy doesn't want Cass and Frankie to hate her for keeping them from being together. They are sitting on either side of her on their couch when she says this, and Cass reaches across Christy to take Frankie's hand, and as they hold hands and look at each other, Cass says, "Frankie and I will always be together. It doesn't matter when we get married. " Christy breaks the spell, and the moment of Cass and Frankie looking tenderly at each other, by standing up and announcing that she is so exhausted. Cass tells her there will be plenty of time in the morning to deal with all the arrangements. Christy asks if Cass will be there, and he says where else would he be but with his two girls? Frankie follows Christy upstairs but turns back to mouth "I love you" to Cass. He returns the sentiment, then calls someone, identifies himself, and tells the person that he'll feel much better if this person will help him. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Frankie and Cass 1993--So I Should Just Go Along With This? You Should Just Go Along With This.
The person Cass called was Agnes, a visiting nurse who knows Christy from the hospital and who cared for Douglas. Agnes is going to stay with Christy while Cass and Frankie go out. Cass won't tell Frankie where they're going. "So I should just go along with this?" Frankie asks after Cass refuses to give her even one clue about where they're going.
"You should just go along with this," Cass replies. He helps Frankie on with her coat and scarf, and then they head out into the night. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Stacey Interrupts Cass's Client Meeting With the Hudsons, 1990
Cass is at Vicky's house, meeting with Vicky, Donna and Michael about Mikey's custody hearing, when Stacey calls and interrupts, asking Cass to come back to the office right away because she has to tell him something that might affect what he's doing right now. Cass tells the Hudsons he has to leave for a little while and heads back to the office to see what's going on with Stacey.

Stacey Resigns From the Law Firm, 1990
Upon returning to the office, Cass finds Stacey sitting alone in the dark and realizes she's been crying. He's stunned when she hands him her letter of resignation, which also includes mention of her intent to serve as the Millers' attorney. He initially refuses to accept it, telling her that she'll be sabotaging her career and that it's a direct conflict of interest. Stacey points out that it won't be a conflict of interest if she's not working at the firm, and tells Cass it's his choice whether or not he accepts her resignation, but she's leaving. Cass asks if it's really that important to Stacey. She replies that it is. She can't let parents lose custody of their child because they can't afford to fight a decent court battle. Cass tells her that if the Millers lose Mikey, it won't be because of their attorney. Mikey hasn't come to any harm in Michael and Donna's care, which is more than they can say about the Millers. Stacey tells Cass they can discuss it in court because she's made up her mind. Cass tells Stacey this is an emotional response on her part, but Stacey disagrees and says she's doing this because she knows what it's like to lose her daughter, and that was final, but this isn't, and she's not going to give up on it. Cass tells Stacey that Zack just left, now Stacey's leaving him in the lurch, and they're going to be on opposite sides of this case, so how else is Cass supposed to see it but as Stacey walking out on him? Stacey reminds Cass that they never have agreed on everything and tells him that she feels if she doesn't do this, she will lose the part of herself that wanted to be a lawyer in the first place. Cass sees how much this means to Stacey and agrees to release her from the firm. The siblings hug, and Stacey asks Cass if he still loves her. Cass says sometimes she makes it difficult, but yes, he does. Stacey assures Cass that everything will be just fine. Cass says they'll see about that, then tells Stacey that there's something she can do for him, since he's being so nice about this: explain it to the Hudsons. Stacey doesn't think they'll understand. Cass replies that he doesn't think he'll ever really understand it, either.

Cass and Stacey Tell the Hudsons That Stacey Is Representing the Millers, 1990
Cass and Stacey return to Vicky's house, where Stacey breaks the news to Vicky, Donna and Michael that Stacey has resigned from Winthrop and Winthrop and will be representing Eve Miller in Mikey's custody hearing. The Hudsons are taken aback and angry. Vicky tells Stacey off, accusing her of not having this famous conscience she mentions as her reason for representing Eve Miller when she made Vicky out to be a slut in order to get Steven away from her, since Stacey represented Jamie in Steven's custody hearing. Stacey insists that it's not personal, but Vicky says that if Stacey can screw the Hudsons, all the better, right? Donna and Michael aren't happy either, and Michael says this will hurt them and asks Cass if this is even legal. Cass says yes, and adds that he tried to talk Stacey out of it, but her mind is made up. After Stacey leaves, Donna asks why Stacey had to stick her nose into this in the first place. Cass tells the Hudsons that under the circumstances, he understands if they want to find another attorney. Michael refuses, though, and tells Cass they still want him to represent them. Cass says they've all had enough for today and that he'll call them to set up another meeting. Michael walks Cass out and says Stacey's decision must have caught him by surprise. Cass tells Michael that's putting it mildly.

Cass and Rachel Discuss Paulina's Claim That She Is Mac's Daughter, 1990
Reuben escorts Rachel into Cass's private office. Cass yells at Reuben about a contract that Cass can't find. It turns out Cass can't find it because Reuben already messengered it out like Cass wanted. Rachel asks if this is a bad time. Cass says he's just yelling at everybody today. Rachel replies there's a lot of that going around, then asks Cass what if he would do if a young lady walked into his office claiming to be Mac's daughter and produced a long and involved letter supposedly written by her mother explaining how she is Mac Cory's love child. Cass tells Rachel he would tell the young lady in question that she is full of organic fertilizer. "Excellent!" Rachel exclaims. "Now prove it." Cass assures Rachel that they should be able to sink any claim this woman makes. Rachel doesn't know how Paulina got the other half of the photograph. Cass thinks she had an accomplice, and Rachel thinks that too. Cass then raises the possibility that since Paulina has had ample time in the house (since becoming Steven's nanny), she could have taken the half of the photograph already in Rachel's possession and had the photographer fake her half. Rachel doesn't think that's the case, though, because Ken Jordan was in Central America with Mac at the time the photograph was taken and Ken knows the lady Paulina is claiming is her mother. Cass finds it interesting that Jordan positively identified both the photograph and the woman. Cass thinks the letter from Paulina's mother is a complete fake. Rachel admits that Paulina doesn't have the envelope, which doesn't surprise Cass. Cass thinks that Paulina purposely maneuvered herself into the nanny job so that she could do firsthand research on the Corys, and he tells Rachel that they have to find the inconsistencies in Paulina's story and check up on her background and this town in Central America.

Frankie and Cass 1990--I'm Going to Love Getting Used to You Being There Whenever I Need You
Iris arrives at the law office looking for Rachel. It's the first anniversary of Mac's death, and Iris was hoping she and Rachel could spend some time together. Rachel agrees and suggests to Iris that they go home. Frankie arrives as they're leaving, and Rachel tells Cass to fill Frankie in about Paulina. Frankie remarks that that was an odd duo that just left. Cass tells her, "Not today. Today they have all kinds of things in common."
Cass then starts to explain about Paulina and what they need to look into, including the orphanage, its connection with Central America, names of people down there... "Yo!" Frankie interrupts Cass.
"What?" Cass asks.
"Who are you talking to?" Frankie wants to know.
"The best dadgum private investigator east of the Mississippi, west of the Ohio, and north of the Mason-Dixon Line!" Cass exclaims.
"Did you actually say 'dadgum'?" Frankie asks with a laugh.
"No, I would never say a stupid word like 'dadgum,'" Cass replies.
Cass apologizes, assuring Frankie that he wasn't trying to tell her how to do her job; he was just repeating what Rachel said. Frankie tells him not to worry about it. She'll get the real story. "Mary Frances Frame, on the job," Cass says.
"Yes," Frankie exclaims, punching the air.
"Mary Frances Frame, smiling again," Cass says, touching her face. She touches his hand on her cheek. "I'm glad to see that." Frankie guesses she has been a bit of a downer lately. Evan nearly died, Cass tells her, and no one expected her to be anything other than what she was, which was great. Now, thank goodness, Evan is fine.
"And you," Frankie says.
"Oh, hey, me. What about me?" Cass asks.
"You were a brick!" Frankie exclaims, hugging Cass. "You were a rock! You were there whenever I needed you."
"Of course I was," Cass replies as he hugs Frankie back.
"Oh, that's not a feeling I'm used to," Frankie tells him. "And it is a feeling I'm going to LOVE getting used to."
"You would have done the same for me," Cass says.
"In spades, Counselor," Frankie replies.
Then Frankie asks if Cass has spoken to Stacey lately. No, he hasn't. Frankie massages Cass's shoulders as he says that at first he thought he and Stacey would make a lousy team, but things really started to work well. Frankie says she hates to be a Pollyanna... Cass interrrupts to say that Frankie loves to be a Pollyanna, and she's about to tell him that he and Stacey will get back together, isn't she? Frankie asks what's to stop Cass and Stacey from doing just that when the Hudson case is over as she begins to massage his scalp. Cass says they'll say. Frankie says the only thing that could stop them would be that stupid Winthrop pride. Cass gets up and asks what Frankie's talking about. She tells him she's talking about him. She happens to love talking about him. As Frankie puts her arms around Cass, he says it's a good thing he deserves Frankie. Frankie asks why that is. Cass replies that if he didn't, he'd start to feel like his luck was running too good and he'd worry about losing her. "Do you know what's worrying me?" Frankie asks. "I am actually beginning to understand you." They both laugh, and then they kiss.

Cass and Frankie 1990--The Corys' Legal Dilemmas
Cass and Frankie go to the Cory Mansion to talk to Amanda. Thanks to Emma talking to the D.A., Sam is going to be charged with attempted murder in Evan's accident, and Sam's hearing is tomorrow. Amanda says it's insane for Sam to be charged with attempted murder. Frankie tells Amanda that she's not saying what Amanda did is right or wrong, and she has no idea what was in Sam's head, but Evan nearly died. Amanda reminds Frankie that she was there, then says that she doesn't think Sam wanted to kill Evan. Frankie knows, but you have to know Frankie's mother... Amanda says that she cares about Evan as much as anyone, but how can justice be done if Sam is charged with something that he didn't do? Cass says that Frankie just wanted Amanda and the Corys to know why Frankie's family is going for a more serious charge. Amanda says she's not sure of what happened and she was there, so how can the D.A. be sure? Rachel arrives then with Ken Jordan to find Cass and Frankie talking with Amanda and Matt. Cass says maybe they'll find that out at the hearing tomorrow. Rachel asks what's going on. Cass tells Rachel that they may move the charge against Sam up to attempted murder. Rachel says it was an accident. Cass replies that the D.A. must have some new information. Rachel asks if Amanda will have to testify. Amanda is sure she will have to testify but wants to talk to Evan. Matt offers to go with Amanda to see Evan, but she declines. Cass promises to call Amanda when he knows the time for the hearing. Frankie tells Amanda she wishes there was something she could do. Amanda assures Frankie that it's okay and it's not Frankie's fault, then Amanda leaves, followed by Matthew. When Rachel asks, Cass says that nobody is saying why they might charge Sam with attempted murder. Rachel muses that it all just gets worse and worse, doesn't it? Cass tells her they'll have a better handle on things tomorrow and asks if he can speak to her on that other matter. Rachel agrees, and, seeing Cass's hesitancy to say anything in front of Ken Jordan, assures Cass that Ken knows all about Paulina. This immediately makes Cass and Frankie suspicious, even though Rachel says that Ken was at the house when Paulina told Rachel everything. Ken leaves because he has another appointment he should keep. After he's gone, Rachel confirms that Ken knows everything from the beginning and says that he's been very helpful. He's been filling Rachel in on things. Why? Cass and Frankie exchange a look, and Cass says maybe now they know why Ken Jordan suddenly popped into Rachel's life. Rachel asks what Cass is implying. Cass says that Ken Jordan pops up with all this new information about Mac's past. Rachel counters that she knew that Mac was a correspondent, she just didn't know the specifics until now. Frankie says it's a bit coincidental, doesn't Rachel think? Cass adds that a few months after Ken Jordan's arrival, this governess claims to be Mac's long-lost daughter by some woman that only Ken Jordan can identify. Rachel tells Cass and Frankie that they're jumping to a very large conclusion. Frankie replies that they just want her to look at the facts. Cass says that lawyers always have to ask who benefits. If Paulina benefits, does Ken? Rachel says that Ken seems to be as suspicious of Paulina as Rachel is. Frankie says that's exactly the right way to play it if you're smart. Rachel asks what's with Cass and Frankie; they've been down on Ken since the very beginning. Frankie replies that she and Cass just think it's very coincidental, you know? Rachel admits there have been a lot of coincidences, but says that she is sure that Ken cares about her and the family. Cass says maybe he and Frankie are being too rough on Ken. He's sure it can all be explained. Rachel promises that it will all be explained. Frankie guesses that a lawyer and a private investigator can't help looking for hidden motives. Rachel says no one is going to hurt her or her family, she can assure Cass and Frankie of that. Cass asks if there's any new information on Paulina. Rachel says yes. She thought of something Iris told the family months ago. A maid at the inn was called into Mac's room to witness the signing of a legal document. Cass asks what the document was. Rachel replies that that's the question. Frankie asks if Rachel thinks Mac may have known about Paulina. Cass asks if maybe Mac wrote something that acknowledged Paulina's existence. Rachel says she doesn't know. She doesn't know what to think anymore.

Cass and Frankie 1990--What Kind of Wedding Do You Want? A Spiritual Commitment With the Man I Love.
Frankie worries that she made things worse by talking to Amanda, but she just wanted Amanda to understand that it isn't so much Frankie's whole family that has a vendetta against Sam, it's Frankie's mother. Cass assures Frankie that everything will be all right; it's just a very tense time for everyone, and this business with Paulina isn't helping any. Frankie knows that Rachel will come out of this all right. Cass says Rachel needs her friends around her now. Cass and Frankie agree that they're both still suspicious of Ken Jordan, but that they couldn't push it with Rachel.
When Frankie suggests postponing their wedding because of everything that's going on, Cass tells her to perish the thought. Frankie says these problems aren't going to go away overnight, and she was just thinking maybe they should postpone, if Cass wants to. Cass is going through the Hudson case, Amanda needs him, Rachel needs him... Cass tells Frankie he doesn't want to postpone their wedding...unless she wants to postpone their wedding? Cass thought Frankie had her heart set on a big wedding. Frankie asks if Cass wants a big wedding. She thought he'd want something where Felicia can get all involved in the planning and everything. Cass says no, he doesn't want a big wedding. All he cares about is him and Frankie and a minister. He was just going along with a big wedding so Frankie would be happy. Frankie bursts out laughing. Cass asks her, "Don't you want a church and a long wedding gown and a big cake and, you know, the whole bit?"
"No," Frankie replies, still smiling. She tells Cass that if they're not going over Niagara Falls in a barrel for their honeymoon, why should she care about that other traditional stuff. So Cass asks Frankie what she does want. Frankie wants a spiritual commitment with the man she loves. Cass says that's nice, but what they have here is a failure to communicate. "As always," Frankie says with a sigh.
"No, not always," Cass replies. "Only with words."
"Ah, only with words," Frankie echoes.
Cass tells Frankie he has a secret to tell her, and they kiss.
