You're still trying to picture Aaron as a dad, Wendy? I'M still trying to picture Aaron as a dad! He was the youngest in our family, so he has no experience whatsoever with babies or their dirty diapers, spitting up, or waking up screaming at 3 AM.
Now that the shock has worn off, I'm actually finding it funny, because Aaron is the type who has no tolerance at all for blood and guts, so he'll either throw up or pass out in the delivery room, I'm sure, and the first time the kid pees on him or spits up on him, he'll be gagging...and I'll be laughing. I hope that's not TOO harsh.
Plus there's the whole payback factor. He's been such a little $h!t his entire life, and I hope my niece- or nephew-to-be gives him the kind of fits he's given our entire family.
It's sorta like the old Bill Cosby comedy routine, where he said his parents never smiled when he was a kid, but they smiled when they came over to his house and saw how much trouble he was having with his kids.
In all seriousness, though, I hope I get the chance to be a part of this child's life, and I would love it if I got to be like my grandma for this child, KG. If it was Adam's child, I'd be pretty certain I'd have that chance. But Aaron and I have never had the best relationship. He thinks I'm boring and a nerd and that I have no life, and he has, on more than one occasion, called me a loser. So I don't know how much time he's going to let me spend around his son or daughter.
I don't know how old Christina is. From what Aaron says, she's not a soap fan. She doesn't seem to like our family much. She's been to our house exactly once, and she didn't bother to speak hardly at all. I introduced myself to her and said, "Hi, I'm Amy, Aaron's oldest sister. It's nice to meet you."
Her response was to squeeze my fingertips and say, "Yeah, nice to meet you too," in a tone of voice that was clearly saying it was anything BUT nice to meet me.
I hope I get the chance to be there for this child. In this family, he or she is going to need someone on his or her side, and whether or not I get to spend much time with him or her, that's where I'm going to be: on this kid's side.
And if this baby doesn't make Aaron grow up, nothing will!
Thanks for all the well-wishes. I'm going to be the best Auntie Amy I can be!

Congrats, Amy!!! Trust me, being an aunt is so much fun cuz you get to spoil 'em rotten but then give them back cuz they act like spoiled brats!! And treasure it when they are little cuz once they get to be teenagers, then no matter how cool you are (and I am so ), they will look at you like you just won the "Geek of the Year" award! They do, however, take my geeky money whenever it is offered .
So how is your mom taking the "I'm gonna be a Grandma" news?
Our leaves are just about to change color and sometimes I don't think they even get the chance to do that before a storm blows through and knocks them all off the trees and they ever get the chance to be as purdy as those pictures (beautiful autumn drive in NC, Wendy!).
You know they are gonna give us Judi tonight when there are 18 other good things on all at once. Thursday has always been jam-packed with the good stuff and I don't have enuf VCR's to cover it all.

Thanks, Nettie. I'd like to be the person that this kid comes to when Mom and Dad don't understand him or her, no matter how old he/she gets; that's how it was for Grandma and me. Besides, do you have any idea how much dirt I have on Aaron to tell this kid someday? :evil grin:
Yesterday my mom was crying over the grandma thing. Today she kept saying, "I just hope I get to be a part of this child's life," because you know Aaron moved in with Christina, and they live in Champaign, which is about 90 minutes from here, but Aaron hasn't come around much since moving in with her, and of course her family lives 10 minutes away. So my mom is worried about competition now.
I hope we get to be a part of this child's life too. This child deserves to have all the love possible, and for better or for worse, we're this baby's family as much as Christina's parents.
I don't know if this will change, but Aaron did stop by for about 10 minutes today and said they already have names picked out. He got to choose the boys' name and she got to choose the girls' name (or so he said).
Please laugh here and don't think I'm crazy. Before he said anything, I said, "I have dibs on Frances and Robert, and PLEASE, if it's a girl, DO NOT name her Kathleen, because that's my least favorite name in the universe!" And I was completely serious about all of it.
But I didn't have to worry. (Well, I should have known I wouldn't have to worry about Frances and Robert, since my siblings hate my taste in just about everything, with the exception of Adam.)
According to Aaron, if it's a boy, his name will be Nicholas Alan. (Nicholas is Aaron's middle name. I guess we'll call him Nick.)
If it's a girl, her name will be Elizabeth Annette (after Christina's recently deceased grandmother, in which case I hope we call her either Beth, or Nettie, because 'Lizzie' makes me think of Lizzie Borden, and that's not a rep any kid needs, especially in my family!).
So it looks like we're waiting for little Nick or Beth. They're going to find out as soon as the doctor can tell them for sure. I think either Nick or Beth would be a blast, so I honestly don't have any preference. I am SO going to start stocking up on books for Nick or Beth once I get a job again.

If they call her Nettie, she might be cursed with the burden of overwhelming beauty, brains (can ya have more than one?), killer bod, a nice rack , and hair like Rapunzul. Sometimes the pressure is absolutely unbearable...
Have a nice weekend all!!
Oh, just a little word of advice ~ never, ever, ever, ever, get laundry soap in yer eye. Causes quite the problem...
BTW ~ can't wait for Judi either if fer no other reason that to change my avatar!! Been includin' Judi fer like 2-3 weeks now (okay, it feels like dat long). Me wanna switch back to my gurl solo!!

Thanks fer the ultimate complement (and the fleurs), KT, but I have much to aspire to before I am anywhere near LD!! I love that photo ~ cane and all.
I wish I had an eye patch though ~ in addition to hiding the nasty eye, it would also be very much in season right now. Of course, it would have to have sequins so my gurl would be proud...
So here's the story I'm givin' when I am hit with the "What happened to you?" ~ "The eyeball was dirty and I decided to wash it with laundry detergent. Bad idea." And of course, the worst part of the trip to Urgent Care was the fact that I had to step on the scale. Is it really necessary to get my weight? EYEBALL PEOPLE. IT'S THE EYEBALL!
Nope, workin' Monday. I guess a deal was struck long ago to trade Columbus Day fer the day after Thanksgiving for most offices/businesses. It's bitness as usual come Monday....

Okay waiting for July 18th episode is like waiting for Christmas. Wonder what the hold up is all about?? Anyway, anyone hear about the mall shooting in Knoxville on Wednesday? Seems Knoxville has been getting some mighty bad press these past few months, and none of it is good. Got a new link of photos of the kids: http://mebandphotos.shutterfly.com/ click on the "City Championship" Elizabeth is pic #54 and Jess( a GREAT closeup) is pic #64. You know it is Jess by her eyes. Trust me on this one.
Amy, all I can say is WOW!!! Aaron has really gotten himself in deep this time. I hope for all's sake that coming offspring knows how to give tit for tat with all the grief he has caused everyone!! Yeah, I know, Karma!!
Wendy, glad you are in the house, Finally. Nothing like being settled into your new place.
Nettie, sorry about the laundry detergent. Caleb sprayed Shout in his eyes when he was 2, so I know what you had to endure. You should have told them you thought the eye ball was wash and wear, and that the directions said NOTHING about a side trip to the Emergency room.
Fall break is finally here for me. BTW, I got the cap, gown, and official graduate pic yesterday. Hard to believe but in 8 weeks I will finally have a degree in hand. Now just about that job to go with the degree......
Anyhoo, tonight is highschool football time. Nice weather too for it.

You left something off the list, Nettie! I know it's still several months away, but I was counting down to it from the first time I saw her onscreen: the day THAT WOMAN gets on the plane to New York, never EVER to return!!!!! (Okay, yeah, I know about the Honeymoon Express, I'll deal with that when I get there; Christy Carson is just about to arrive, so I'm not there yet!) I'll be cranking up "The Hallelujah Chorus" and Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" all over again for that momentous occasion!
Congrats on the cap, gown, and graduation pic, Janie!
And Elizabeth and Jess are gorgeous!
I don't think Aaron has a clue what he's really in for. He's dated women with kids before, but never newborns. And like I said, he was the baby in our family, and so he's never spent time around actual little baby babies. They've all been at least a year old.
And yes, I admit it, if I am there to see Nick or Beth either throw up on Aaron, or if it's a Nick and not a Beth to squirt him in the eye, I will laugh until I fall on the floor, and I don't CARE how ticked Aaron gets.
I already consider this cosmic payback for the way he's acted. Either way, he's in for it, because if it's a girl, I can just see him going, "Oh, HELL NO!" when she wants to pierce her belly button and wear miniskirts and he'll go out and get a gun and a license before he'll let her date a guy like him. If it's a boy...my dad and I were talking about it and I cracked my dad up last night. Dad asked me how I felt about it, and I said I'm thrilled--not only about this whole new little person, but the sheer cosmic payback possibilities for Aaron. He totally agreed with me about the girl, and asked me about a boy.
I said, "If it's a boy, I hope he's just like Aaron was when he was little: the only word he knows is "no," he strips and runs naked through the house, or through our house, at the most embarrassing moments possible, and the older he gets, the more fun I'm going to have dishing the dirt on his dad. I can just see Nick freaking out to me the first time he gets a speeding ticket and saying, 'Aunt Amy, my dad's gonna kill me for this!'
And when and if that day comes," I continued to my dad, "I will put my arm around Nicky's shoulders and say, 'He'd be the biggest hypocrite in the world if he did that, honey, because when he was your age, he was on a first-name basis with half the police force and two traffic court judges.'"
Then Aaron would call me up all p1$$ed off: "WHY did you tell Nick about all my tickets?!"
And I'll reply, "Oh, please, like he couldn't have looked it up online for himself."
My dad LHAO and actually asked, "If I'm still around then, will you promise to do that when I can see Aaron's face?" I told him sure.
That's another thing: except for trolling match.com, Aaron is horribly computer illiterate. So I plan to not only teach Nick or Beth to read, but also how to use a computer. We'll be able to bond that way, wouldn't you think?
Don't misunderstand. I won't be trying to turn Nick or Beth into a mini version of me. I mean, these days, everyone needs to know how to read and how to use a computer.
I just want to be a positive influence in this kid's life, even if he or she has the attitude and penchant for finding trouble that his or her daddy has always had.
What the heck, it's the weekend. Aaron used to strip naked and run through the house during the potty training days threatening to pee on Abby and me. True story.
He was the king of detention in school. We practically had to stand over him with a baseball bat to make him finish his homework. He went along with every classroom caper the guys came up with, and was all boy--he had to have 16 stitches taken in his left leg the summer he was 13 and sliced up his leg on his bike chain while attempting to do an Evel Knievel-like jump.
When he was 4, he fell off our grandma's porch and split his lip, and would not shut up the entire time the ER doctor was stitching up his lip. They actually had to tie him down so they could stitch up his lip.
As I already mentioned, he drives on a regular basis like he's in The Fast and the Furious and is on a first-name basis with half the local police force and two traffic court judges.
He's also trashed three cell phones by dropping them in the bathtub or on the shower floor.
I've decided that the fact that Aaron is going to be a father is proof that God has a sense of humor.
But seriously, if little Nick or Beth doesn't make Aaron grow up and be responsible, I don't know what will.
And it's going to be fun watching him learn to be a father with all of the crud detail that entails. It's not all fun and games. A girl will tie him up in knots, but a boy would, scarily enough, probably be so much like him they'd constantly be butting heads.
They do that here too, Nettie. I sprained my ankle when I was 15, and they weighed me. I couldn't even put weight on my left foot. But did Nurse Nazi care about that? No. I'm trying not to scream out loud and my chest is heaving with sobs just so Nurse Nazi can adjust the scale and bark out, "115 pounds," and then scribble it on the chart. At that point, my ankle was so swollen, it could have weighed 115 pounds by itself! I'm sorry about your eye (I had pinkeye the Christmas vacation I was 16--that totally sucked), and I hope you're fully recovered soon.
Yeah, what's the holdup with the July 18 episode? I don't care if THAT WOMAN is all over it, I want to see Judi's very first day too! The whole thing!
I'll have more clips up this weekend, and I've also been working on converting 1981 episodes in between filling out job applications (none of which I'm hearing back on; I'm guessing the economy is at least partly to blame for that).
KG, this might be of interest to especially you. I'm still planning my Dr. Rick video (it's Dr. Rick, after all), but I'm planning another 1981 video, all about Richard Bekins' Jamie. I found a song that I think works well in telling the story, and it will show both his disconnect from his family, and his return to them on his own terms, and feature Rachel, Mac, Sandy, Ada, Amanda, and even a couple of scenes of Cecile (on the lyrics "I'm good without you/Yeah, I'm good without you"). Not sure if it will include *Mr. Black* yet or not, and I'll announce it when it's ready, so keep an eye out, and I hope everyone who's watching 1981 eps will like it.
