Wally: Thanks, Felicia. Now go back to bed and get some rest. And drink plenty of fluids! You're still recovering.
Felicia gives Wally a stern look.
Felicia: That goes double for you, Doctor Wallingford!
Cass grins and wheels Felicia back to her own room.
Wally takes a deep breath and picks up the telephone receiver.
Wally: (nervously) Hello, Your Ladyship.
Ruby: (chuckles softly) So it's "Your Ladyship" now, is it? My great-nephew never used to be so formal.
Wally: Probably because my great-aunt hasn't bothered to call me in...what's it been? 20 years?
Ruby: (sighs) I must have written you hundreds of letters over the years...
Wally: (exasperated) Yes...and all of them about my title. Never a "How are you?" or an "I love you." You care more about that stinking title than you ever did about me! That's one of the reasons I renounced it...plus the fact that it's such a stupid-sounding title...
Ruby: (indignantly) It most certainly is not a stupid title! You should be proud to be the Duke of...
Cass walks back into the room, unnoticed by Wally. He doesn't mean to eavesdrop, but Wally's end of the conversation has him intrigued.
Wally: Don't remind me what I'm the ever-lovin' Duke of! (half to himself) Give me strength!
Ruby: And what's this I hear about you going by your first name only? You're "just plain Wallingford" these days? Haven't you any family pride?
Wally: (shouting) Family pride?! My full name is almost as ridiculous as my title! Yes, I'm "just plain Wallingford" now and I'm happier than I've ever been in my life. I also have the best friends anyone could hope for! (pause) Friends who don't eavesdrop!
Wally has now noticed Cass, who is staring at him open-mouthed and wide-eyed.
Wally: (to Ruby) I have to go. We'll discuss this later.
Wally hangs up the phone. Cass is still staring.
Cass: What's this about a title?
Wally: (fidgeting) Uh...how's Felicia? Did she go back to bed like a good patient?
Cass: (calmly) Yes. She's fine. What's this about a title?
Wally sighs. He knows Cass too well to keep such an important secret from him.
Wally: OK, Cass. Here it is: I'm a member of British royalty.
Cass: (snickers) Be serious, Wally!
Wally: I am serious Cass. Oh, I'll never be in line for the throne or anything like that, but my title is the Duke of...
Cass: (patiently) Duke of what?
Wally: (wincing) Earl!
Cass is fighting the urge to laugh out loud, but the look on Wally's face tells him this is no joke.
Cass: And what's this "just plain Wallingford" business? Is there something else you need to tell me?
Wally: (sinking back onto his pillow) You probably should know my full given name. (groans) That's a story within itself!
Did AW ever offer an explanation as to why Wallingford only went by one name? Actually, they really didn't explain much about him at all.
I find myself with some *me* time so I am working on getting some Wally vids up at YT. They are the before and after of the 25th Anniversary scene when Mitch has a flashback to when Wally tried to get him & Felicia to "kiss and make up." I am including a bit of *M&F's* argument to better understand why Wally intercedes (and as an excuse for Nettie to see *M&F* ). My fave scene in the series is the one between Wallingford and Mitch where they have a discussion about "stoves," so the YT vid series will be entitled "Stoves."
Do you remember the Wally/John Hudson scenes when Wally was trying to cheer John up after he was blinded by the Sin Stalker? He talked about his childhood and what life was like for him until he met the woman who changed it all for him ~ Felicia. I have those scenes too and will research their location and put those up as well. Brent Collins was such a wonderful actor and those scenes are so heartwarming.

Not that I recall. And he never really had his own storyline, which always bugged me. Wally just interacted with everyone, providing comfort & comedy as only he could. And I agree with something you said in a previous post: that Brent Collins probably would've been on the show til the end, if only he had lived. (sigh)

Cool! I look forward to seeing them!

Spoiler:
Mainly, I remember the part where Wally asked John about the woman he loved. John didn't seem to think she cared, but Wally urged him to fight for her.
Gee, I hope I didn't stray too far from Wally's "actual" childhood in my fanfic. But it's been a looong time since I've seen these eppys. [/quote] _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are!"

Naw...I don't think so ~ I don't remember them much either, just know that I have them somewhere. And even if you did, I LOVE yer ff ~ from capturing the personalities of Cass, Felicia & Wally to introducing new peeps like Wilberforce.
Had you written this prior to joining the board or are you writing this as you go?

Just writing as I go. Inspiration hits at the oddest times & I keep paper and pen on me at all times just in case. _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are!"
