I am hopefully starting next week doing the P.A.T work with Bert.
I have requested to visit a few local schools, which they have agreed to. I am in the process of getting together a presentation to give to the kids.
I am just trying to educate the kids on looking after your dog, exercise etc. But most importantly safety, how to act around dogs, with food toys... how to react if a dog runs up to them in the park etc Just basic but very important!
If anyone has any topics, suggestions you think i should include it would be great for your involvement.

Thanks
P.s Il post some pics of vists and let you know of progress. Another positve step for bullbreeds i hope!

I applied to do this through the blue cross and went through and passed all the requirements, one of the requirements I found out after the interviews and checks was that dogs fed barf were not allowed to be used, that ruled all my lot out!
So many rules about taking dogs into schools, its a minefield, do it through an organization, if you dont then your leaving yourself open to all sorts.

Thats crazy?!
They have already mentioned about being be balled!!...pooor old Bert luckily has been.
Il have a look on the kennel club website thanks for that.
Ive found this CD The Blue dog - bite prevention too thats helpful.
The P.A.T people do allot of work with schools, so they are pretty good and believe it or not my local MP is a very proud Staffy owner and has been so so helpful and wants to do more things so I'm waiting to hear back from him??
I have had all relevant police checks. They are just waiting to hear back from which kids will be aloud to attend. They have sent forms back with parents and they give their permission.
I think i will be while before its all ready to go but at least its moving?!
I haven't come across anything too ridiculous yet??
Its hard because i've had no info on what age i will be teaching, so i cant do too much yet. I'm just gathering ideas for the time being.
Like i said IL be grateful for anything...

Yes Bev, I was gonna do it through the Blue cross after they had a drive for helpers on BBO, it did not explain why the dogs that were fed barf were not allowed to attend school visits but it was defo the case, I thought perhaps the worm situation may be perceived as being a problem, also all dogs have to be vaccinated every year and de-sexed, micro-chipped and............. bloody hell I cant remember what else, all this is for insurance purposes, taking a dog into the school with permission of the school is a big deal! I wish I had kept all the info but I havnt, I could have still done the school talks but it wasnt what I wanted to do, I wanted to be part of a team, me and a dog, not me sitting like a teacher saying "listen to all this really important information" yawn, yawn from the kids or what!!!

Good luck in your endeavors. Personally, I wouldn't want my kids learning anything from someone who supports backyard breeding but that is just me.
