I guess it's the sign of the times that no one posts to "Favorite Books." But here are mine:

To Kill A Mockingbird
Fahrenheit 451
Flowers for Algeron
Of Mice and Men
Grapes of Wrath
The Great Gatsby
Crime and Punishment
The Scarlet Letter
Sophie's Choice
Long Walk to Freedom: Mandela's autobiography
any biography of women leaders
. . . the list goes on.

Excellent choice for one and two. I have several mocking birds here and am 8-) reminded of the book/movie almost daily.

My favorites are:

Every Tom Clancy "Jack Ryan" series, except last three I haven't read yet. They are on my shelf and my mind has been all over the place....gotta concentrate on those. Favorites are probably the older ones, except for "Executive Order"..loved it.

Love "The Age of Innocence", which makes me cry every one of the ten or so times I've read it.

"Patriarch" by Richard Norton Smith about Washington's presidency.

"His Excellency, George Washington"

Now reading "John Adams" to go along with watching the series on HBO.

"The Catcher in the Rye" is at the top of my list. I gave my high school copy to my son when he was a sophomore in high school. I had to send the teacher a note saying he had permission to read it! Not missing an opportunity for sarcasm, i wrote: "John Weatherford has permission to read "The Catcher in the Rye" and any other book he wants to."

Last year he gave me a new copy for Christmas and wrote in it: "Thanks for raising me in a house where I was free to read books like this."

We're a bunch of liberals here.

I was lucky enough to have parents that read so they had no qualms seeing me read a book. The closest to censorship was my Dad's PLAYBOY
