|
|
On my sons bike I tighten the chain, using chaintensioners, as the cranks rotate a full cycle the chain will get very loose and then very tight. The chain gets so tight the cranks make a noise and the chain gets so loose that it falls off. We tried to race last night with a chain ring, and the chain fell off. I have used a chain wheel and it does it with this also to a lesser extent.
Any help would be appreciated. |

With the chain off, spin the cranks. See if the chainwheel or sprocket spins straight. If it does, I would say your problem may lay with the freewheel. If it has major wobble, this is your problem. But if it is a chainwheel, your spider may be the issue and not the gear.
Hope this helps. _________________ Bye for now,

How old is the chain? Also freewheels are basically a disposable item. You might want to replace both.
I put a White Industries freewheel on Matt's bike a while back. Runs nice and smooth and is 100% rebuildable.
One other thing. When you spin the cranks does the chain get tight in the same spot on the front sprocket with every revolution. If so, the problem lies with the sprocket and not the chain. If they are profile sprockets the center washer that adapts it down to the spindle size may be worn also. This allows the sprocket to move around on the spindle causing severe tight spots. _________________ Clint Bonnett

Thanks for all of the help.
I picked up a profile sprocket last night. This should do the trick. |
