Jimmy at Bulldog sounded really enthused about it. I felt it was a good fit with them being based out of NYC. He wants to set up a dirt jump contest at one of the qualifiers. Maybe be a halftime thing between races or something. What do you guys think? |
Do any of the tracks have dirt jumps? it might be tough to build one off ramps for such a thing.. just my nickels worth... |
The only place I can think of is Kingston's pro section that is being made bigger from what I've heard. _________________ Clint Bonnett

Hello, just a note from us poor old souls up here in Maine..... ?I think a Pro/Am series as part of the state series is a great idea. ?Not that I am a politician, but I am an advocate for anything that can improve the quality of BMX Racing in my geographical area (World is pretty much that area). ?I think with politics aside Pro/Am events at state or even local events gives a chance for the track to 1) draw some pro talent from the surrounding areas to participate on the local scene and 2) gives the aspiring younger riders a venue to race against that pro talent to test the waters for themselves and gauge their abilities... ?The only thing I would offer up in conjunction with an all male event is one for the ladies as well.... ?I know we don't have as many lady pros in the area and that is a deficit we need to address and fix. ?I give as much as I can back to the sport to help out with events like this and the truth be known I am glad that I can do it... ?I think it is a great thing that Clint is trying to do for NY State BMX Racing .... politics aside, I think the states should support ventures like this and not focus on an event taking away from the state series glory.. ?because if BMX Racers are having fun.....the more likely it is they will stay within the sport and secondly and probably most important, they are more likely to infect someone else with the racing bug as well...
I did have time to update the plate proofs a little.....
2009 Series Champ
2009 Series 2nd through 8th
If I have the material, I will also do up some custom window vinyl for them like last year.... _________________ Some Dirt, Some Elbows and Lifetime of Memories... |

Johnson BMX...
What kind of material are your plates made from? And how thick are they? _________________ Bye for now,

Jeff,
They finish up at around 60mil. 40 mil polystyrene, 12 mil polyfin, 3 mil acrylic adhesive and 5 mil high gloss laminate I can add a 3 mil satin laminate as well.
They are very resilent plate and stand up to racing very well...
Thanks for asking. _________________ Some Dirt, Some Elbows and Lifetime of Memories... |

Just wanted to throw this out real quick. Down in Virginia Jud from Hyper kicked in a Hyper Junior frame for the raffle prizes. _________________ Clint Bonnett

Thanks, but no thanks. I appreciate the vote of confidence. But I really don't think that I would be the "cure all" for NY BMX.
Rose has a year to go. And the next logical progression is to have Tom Borgia move to the commisioner slot next year. _________________ Clint Bonnett

The dollar opens were Sean Mabin's idea. Personally, I think it kicked ass. Kids would come just to race that.
Look at it this way. Matt had capped his state and regional points out after the first 5 qualifiers. There was no need for him to race his class hard. The dollar open series was a way for him to keep in shape and race faster people.
Of course Mabin gave Mike Gage some money to have the plates made. But we haven't seen the plates yet. But it was still fun as hell for Matt. _________________ Clint Bonnett

I'll take em Richie. Give em to me at the first State Qualifier.
BTW how many people saw the "Empty Pocket Award" that I gave to Stodolski? I cut an old back pocket off of a pair of jeans. Glued it to a nice plaque. Tore the corner off of a $20 bill and glued that sticking out of the pocket. Then I has an engraver make the plaque to read
2008 King of the Empire Pro/Am
"Empty Pocket Award"
Nick Stodolski
5 qualifiers races and $0 money won
I should have taken a picture _________________ Clint Bonnett

I've been toying with the idea of LOWERING registration for amateurs in the pro/am to $15 and am going to try to get the state to go along with the same idea for pro/am riders. Don't know how receptive they will be to it, but it never hurt to ask.
But, you have to understand that by lowering reg fees, that is less in the pot for winnings. But I also feel that it's owed to the people racing their class and the open. Kind of a bulk discount.
I'm not making any promises, but I am thinking it over. _________________ Clint Bonnett

I say leave it the same unless somebody is going to subsidize the difference.
Bigger payouts and more investment keep the tensions high and bring out the bigger names. _________________ Nicholas Rauch
