let me tell you when nj started its pro am the same thing was going on here with older riders not racing...
my son was planning on trying to do another state series... ct or pa possibly( too much of a hike)
then they started the pro am and he was so excited.. and tries not to miss a race . total turnaround..
you are talking about minimum 2 racks of riders add in at least 1 parent ( for the under 20 crowd mostly) maybe 20 extra ppl total? thats ppl who buy food and drinks, concession, 50/50, etc
its more revinue for the track plus ads excitement.
ask any 7-12 yr old what the best race to watch is at a state race..see what they say.... |

Well we survived Shoreham. I would've posted sooner but my computer decided not to work Saturday night and I've been at work for the past 36 hours.
Anyhow let me start by saying that I am satisfied with my decision. The 4th straight did have the lips tamed down. But there was a double then a flat section that was 4 feet long then a table then a flat section that was 8 feet long then a stepup into the 4th turn. It wasn't the wreck fest that I thought it would be. But you could clearly see all the riders checking up in that section. I would not have lended itself to good competitive racing. And with 8 guys racing for money, there would have been a big problem there for sure.
As far as the race not being there and Rose's claim that it would kill the rider count. The only two amatuer riders in the top 8 that weren't there was Kyle Klumbach and Nick Stodolski.
I want to thank the riders that supported my decision that were down there and I hope you also let Rose know that it was the right decision to make. Even Bill Martin said that it was the right call to make.
If you guys could do me a favor. Let Rose and Bill know how you feel about this decision and the series as a whole. Don't turn it into a bash fest and if you don't agree with my call let them now that also.
Here are their email addy's

Well Clint, you got to see first hand what work went into the track and what the end result was.
With the support you received from the pro / am group and their parents, it seems that your executive decision was the right one to make.
I respect that you had the riders safety in mind. _________________ Bye for now,

Here's a quick update.....
The weather for this weekend looks iffy. We will do our best to get this race in this Saturday. There may be a delay, but we'll try our best. The Hendersons have been busting their butts to get the track into shape for this one. So when you guys get there, make sure you thank all of the track personel for letting us have it there.
The RAIN DATE is Saturday October 4th. Registration will be the same, 9:30-11:00am gate will drop asap.
The tracks phone number is 1-845-339-0618. My cell number is 1-845-656-4925.
Also since the state has washed their hands of the whole thing (for now) I will put up the $50 that the state normally has in the past for the holeshot award in the main. _________________ Clint Bonnett

Also keep in mind that if you need to get hold of me quickly, use my cell number. I'll be at work from tomorrow morning until Thursday evening and don't have internet at the firehouse. _________________ Clint Bonnett

I just spoke with Mike Henderson. Given the weather in the area and how saturated the track is. The Pro/Am race scheduled for tomorrow Sept. 27th is postponed. The original rain date was set for Oct 4th. There are several competing events that will keep riders away from our race. So what I'm looking at now is either Oct 11 or 12th. I am leaning towards the 12th since Sunday's are usually a safe day for a race (less conflicts).
When things firm up I will post it here.
Sorry for the changes. I know that this is screwing up peoples plans. But I want to make it so everyone that is qualified and riders that just want to race it can do so.
My cell number is 845-656-4925 if you have any questions
Thanks

Probably a good call Clint. It's been raining all day here.
I'll be looking forward to that one.

Yea I think so. The reason I changed the rainout date is because the Bizarro guys wanted to come over and they have a clinic next Saturday and NJ was running the Hyper race at Howell that day too. But the following weekend was wide open for everyone.
The helmets didn't sell on ebay. So since my wife is coming along that day she'll be handling the raffle for the helmets for me. Probably won't sell many tickets. But I just didn't want to sell them on ebay and then have a problem come up and end up having to return the money or something. I did sell the profiles on there a few weeks ago though, so that money is thrown into the pot also.
I've also started hitting potential sponsors for next year. SE Racing, Profile, Fly, Supercross, Felt & Bulldog. I got responses back from Felt and Supercross so far. Ray at Fly is interested, but with everyone getting ready for Interbike in Vegas things are pretty hectic for most companies right now. I'm gonna give it another week before starting to make follow-ups. Whether I run it or not, I can still get the wheels in motion for next year.
I'm also trying to talk Al Cayne into coming up to video the races and basically to do his thing. He broke his collarbone while doing sprints the other day (chain broke) so it may or may not happen. You guys should check out his site at www.cactv.com there's some pretty cool stuff on it. _________________ Clint Bonnett
