Lets talk cranks.
I know every one is all goo goo gaa gaa over shimano and the DXR's and saints right now but lets face it. There are tons of cranks out there in the same class as shimano that are just as good or even better.
I'm gonna be running a new hollow core truvativ set up this summer with a modified spindle.
Lighter than shimano and just as stiff. External bearings like shimano but with a ceramic bearing that is tons smoother and faster.
Ive been running profiles for a while but after trying out Some Redline flights this year I realized how much stiffer the profiles where.
FSA makes a crank simalier to profile but its even stiffer.
FLY bikes has a new 2.5 piece design that should be plenty stiff and is lighter than shimano, profile, truvativ and just about any other steel or aluminum crank on the market all while being chromoly.
Retail around $165 plus a bottom bracket puts these cranks right around $200. Not bad.
Supercross has the sinner crank, heavy as crap and same price as shimano. Im not impressed. Ive seen better looking and lower cost.
If anyone in New York will be running DXR's I expect it to be Jeff, He keeps his bikes dialed with new stuff.
Ebay is a good place to get saints cheap too.
What are you running and Is there some thing you wanna get crank wise to make you bike better or are you fine with what you have?

Okay okay, yeah i'd love a pair of DXR's but what do I do with my Profile's with Ti spindle and Knight Ti bolts. I never noticed any flex that ppl talk about but my legs aint nothing vietnemese chicken. I know not to get the Ti arms from Eastern. I was interested in the Tuvativ and talked to Nick and his brother about them which they loved, notice how No Pros run them any more. It would be interesting to get a survey from alot of top pros what they would run if they had there true choice and there names were not given.

I love those cranks first of all, but they are whipped, so I will be running Euro Profiles (site sponsor, holla) with a Ti bottom bracket by the summer.
All good things must come to an end, eventually. I would still be stoked on the Truvativs, but they have been SRAMified. Not cool in my book. I have come to realize that these companies don't have any real invested interest in BMX.
Profile seems to be, if nothing else, committed to the cause.
Just my thoughts. Easy on the haterade Spencer.

Looking at Truvativ's site, it looks like they only make one BMX race crankset. What setup are you planning on running, one of their downhill setups? |

Not a lurker. I have never even ventured over to this section of the
forum. I honestly thought about running the DXR line but I heard that
Profiles have them beat. I have been running Profiles for the last 3-4
years, but back in the day I used to run Redline Flight cranks. Very
impressive for a crank in the '80's.
One negative about the Profiles is that their cups and other bracket parts
are always sporting flaws. Plus I always have major high spots with the
chain. I run their Imperial sprockets.
I do like the Saints cranks, from what I have seen. But the opinion from
others is not that great. I currently run Tru-Vativ's on my cruiser. Very
nice crank.
But I have noticed that DR runs the Fly setup on his Formula, and that
has got me wondering.
You never know what I may do. New cranks are a possibility!

Jeff,
In my opinion you are to big for carbon cranks like DR, he's a freak of nature. I do wish I could test them all but duh. I did notice a lot of problems with profile gears, talk to Hakes about how they are made, Crupi, AC, Snap are good and straight.

DR is 5'3" , 150lb. I am 5'7" 160 lb. Do you think my 4" and 10 lbs. will
make that big of a difference? He is much stronger than I am, so I think
he would break carbon before I would.

I will go with Jeff on this one. We had a member of our team on some FSA carbons up until about a year ago. This kid has some power behind him too.
And, Spence, he is now on TruVativs (I sneak it in again, haha).

Yep it's Edwards. DR runs 170's dont you run 180's? 10 lbs is no difference and I agree with that and I guess 4 in. isn't much either but he also grew (or didn't grow) up running that set up. I looked into it for my self but the only thing that will make me faster is training. If you can try them all go for it but a mistake I made when I was racing before was to try every new product or frame out there (80's) and I was on so much different stuff I didn't know what was best for me untill I stuck with one frame bars and crank length. Good luck in your pursuit.

DR is only 5'3"? Wow I don't feel so short anymore.
I have 2 pairs of flights, and a pair of profiles and truvativs sitting in a Hannford shopping bag in the closet (anyone interested??). Jeez how did I aquire so much crap being back less than 1 year?
If I make a freestyle bike I will probably get Easterns, if I make a cruiser I will probably get another sets of Flights. Why flights? They looks shiney! LOL I'm not strong enough to flex the crap out of them, and even if so are they slowing me down? Don't think so.
Is it spring yet???????????? |

Chris, I don't intend on trying all new products. For the last 3 years I
have had the same parts on my bike. Except for wheels. I had a $600
pair built 3 years ago but they wouldn't stay straight. So I switched to
the Answer Ti experts. Less money and less weight. I have been very
impressed with these.
Although every year I do purchase a new frame, it is the same frame
from Felt. As a matter of fact, I am getting ready to swap everything
over to my new frame. I am just waiting on some new brakes. Mine are
mangled from my many wrecks last season.
Has anyone seen the DXR brakes yet?

Nick the Profiles are 180s, but I was really thinking of getting rid of the Truvativs which are also 180 with ISIS DH BB. Maybe I will get rid of the profiles.
Jeff, how do you like the answer rims? If I build a cruiser I was thinking of these wheels or even 1 3/8" I would get a short frame. I originally wanted a Brew, but now they will only make customs and will be too expensive. So maybe an Intense, Crupi or Formula - all 3 of which seem to stock a lot of intermediate sizes. After riding my Robinson around I realize how a shorter frame rides so much better for me. Why do you get a new frame every year? Looks like all the old guys will be racing cruiser. I know 2 people (maybe 3) who be coming back to race this year our age.
Then I have to decide what to do with my Standard. I want to build a kick-ass freestyle bike too. My wife is going to sh!t having all these bikes around. |

They are Racing XR. They are pretty much in mint condition. I would probably keep them if they were 175mm.
They were stock on a GT Power Series XL I got. Since I didn't know any better my 80s mentality kicked in and aluminum cranks were a no-no and got immediatley replaced with flights. |
