Read this timeline and do some research on your own if you want to know more. Joekid on a stingray is a great movie that depicts most of this timeline.
Or, if you know of anyone who may have BMX publications from the 80's, ask if you can read them.

Yeah everyone should watch Joe Kid. The same people are making (or just made) a movie about Stu Thomsen.
