Hey Everyone,

I am asking that anyone who has ever checked out our race coverage or taken a picture off of this site, to check out the link on the home page of the site to send an email to the NBL.

They barred all but three photographers from entering the infield at the Christmas Classic.

So, if you could, just let them know that you like the site and being able to check out pictures from home.

Please do this in a polite manner.

If you could, just let post it here if you are in fact willing and do in fact send them an email.

Thanks Guys,

We sent a polite e-mail asking for underground coverage to continue. Why the change?  That really sucks.

nick we have always enjoyed reading your coverage plus checking out your pics at every nat you cover/// i dont understand what is going on all of a sudden ... do they have a specific photog who covers thenational like they did years ago ( as in tom izor days??) as we are here in lexington and there is no official photographer as far as i can see..no booth with someone taking moto numbers to take pics... so what is the issue??

i can tell you a rider who is just starting out asked if he can have an infield pass for taking pics was turned away today..he only wanted to take pics for personal use for for riders from our state series..he dosnt even sell them and he was turned away. they told him he wouold have to pay $1/per moto so it would cost him $189 for today just to take pics... so he couldnt take them.

has it always been like that? who is the official photographer for the event?

if there is none i dont see why they would prevent you from taking pics in the infield

can someone explain, as it seems like they would rather have no one ???unless i missed something..

I could somewhat understand if there were an official photographer.  I am not trying to undercut the photographers selling pictures.

And, I asked to BUY a press pass, and I was flat out told no.

But, I also understand that this sport needs promotion in the form of information and media.  Our sport is so under promoted it's not even funny.  We can't check the newspaper Monday morning for the results like we can for football or any other major sport.  So, the alternative, for quickly available information is the internet.  I'm not trying to make money - we are here for the promotion of the sport.

I guess the bottom line is the NBL is trying to milk the situation for more money.

So, please send them an email, that politely expresses your displeasure.

I am not sure but I think a big part of the reason for limiting the photogs allowed on the track is that there is not a lot of safe space on the infield. Just a thught but....

I was out there for about ten minutes, and I didn't really think it was any more crowded or space limited than prior years at the Christmas Classic.

I honestly haven't ever seen a photographer interfere with a race.  I have yet to see a photographer get hurt at a race.  But safety has to be a concern.

The more pictures being published equals more exposure to the sport of BMX. From what I have been reading the NBL doesn't want the exposure. So this just shows what I have been saying. NBL = No Business Leadership !

I cant see how getting 189 from 3 photographers is going to make them any more money... It's dumb. Sounds more like a control thing.

What the NBL should do instead of banning anyone from getting into the infield and taking pics is to get their old computer system up to the 21st century ! Why don't they have the results posted from the Presidents Cup it was 2 days ago !

I think the NBL wants its riders to go ABA.

This new guy in charge sounds like he is there to make money in a sport where there isn't anymore to be made.

Charging contributing writers/ photographers for BMX Today is insane.

I say let him know what you honestly think.

There was 1 photographer who sells pictures. I don't know his site.  The other two guys were Doc Nevins of Little Back River Photography and J-Rod's Photo Shop.

They both sell online I believe, but were given infield passes for their coverage for BMXToday.

nick

do you know then what you had to do to get a pass for pictures?  just curious if they didnt want to sell the pass to you ( they told one of our riders h e had to pay to take pics, didnt mention anything about safety or limited infield access...but he didnt have any money anyway so that was out)

seems odd.

the more the merrier i always say. so even if you charge for the digital pics or enlargements.... the more ppl taking pics the more exposure. why limit to one photog?

one person may just be taking pics of the riders he knows or from a certain state... this way with many photogs you get a wide range of pics and let the ppl decide who they want to purchase pics from... freedom of choice...

personally i used to like when tom izor did it, having a little one racing years ago it was easy... you gave him the moto and bike number, done deal. even if it was $4/ pic. from a parents perspective its convenience that matters.

but now i think its more about exposure. thats what the sport needs the most.

did anyone see if they had any newspaper articles locally?  i didnt see a recent paper.. my hubby bought one in our hotel and when he got up to the room discovered it was almost a week old..haha.

There were five people who applied for passes.  I was not one of them, since I haven't had to request a pass in about 3 years.  Of the five people who applied for passes, only three were given them.  I guess the idea was to keep the infield less crowded.

We're all about exposure here.  That would be the reason why probably 90% of our pictures end up on myspace.

this is wat i just sent to the nbl....

Hello, it has been brought to my attention that there is a new rule that only 3 press passes are going to be handed out at races from now on. My view on it is that the new rule is actually hurting the nbl. These photographers are going out and taking these pictures to put on their websites and from there they may go to myspace, facebook ext. this is free publicity for the nbl. Quite frankly in the last 9 years that i have been racing there has been a drastic drop in the amount of riders in which make it out to these races and the nbl staff needs to do all they can to improve it. So i am emailing you to find out exacly what the issue is with not handing out more press passes. If there reason has to do with money and wanting to charge for passes honestly how much do you actually think that these people make taking these pictures. The main website i am concerned about is BMXUNDERGROUND.COM if you go on their it is all nbl and nowhere does the nbl get trash mouthed. So i am asking that you to please reconsider what you are doing and see if it is actually hurting the nbl or helping it.
Thanks for Your Time.

There were plenty of volunteers kids with infield passes.

Guess I should have had my dad corner marshal, haha.
