· Quote

As you know the ACTS Group Team has been registered for this year's Relay for Life.

Here are more details about Relay for Life as well as our participation in the event...

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event that celebrates survivorship and raises money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. Relay participants are able to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower individuals and communities to fight back against a disease that takes so much.

What is Relay?

Our Signature Activity.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight
experience you’ll never forget. Relay mobilizes communities
throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved
ones, and raise money to support the mission of the American
Cancer Society. Teams of 8-15 participants seek contributions prior
to Relay. Then, at the event, they gather with tents and sleeping
bags to camp out at local high schools, parks, or fairgrounds and
take turns walking or running around a track or path. Relay brings
together friends, family, businesses, hospitals, schools, places of
worship ... people from all walks of life! Each team is asked to have a
representative on the track at all times during this overnight event ...
because cancer never sleeps.

About Hope.
When the sun goes down, hundreds of luminaria light the way under
the stars to remember those lost to cancer, those fighting cancer, and
those who have fought the battle and won. The luminaria that light
up the night symbolize the hope and perseverance to continue the
fight.

About Honor.
Relay welcomes all cancer survivors, our honored guests, to take part
in the Survivors’ Victory Lap. Their courage and strength help the
community see that cancer survivorship is real - thanks to your help,
we are making progress in the fight against cancer.

About Making the Connection.
Relay is your connection to the support your American Cancer
Society provides. Through Relay, you will become more knowledgeable
about cancer prevention and early detection.

A Worldwide Movement

In May 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt took the first step of his 24-hour marathon around a Tacoma,Washington track - ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight this nation’s biggest health concern. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since then, Relay For Life has become the American Cancer Society’s single largest activity. Each community’s Relay For Life is special, but its greater power lies in the synergy created by all the Relays taking place worldwide. In 2008, more than 4,900 communities and 20 countries hosted
Relay For Life events, raising more than $435 million, making this the largest fundraising event of any kind!

If you know ...
• A child who has been cured of leukemia
• A woman who had a lumpectomy or was treated with Tamoxifen or  breast cancer
• A man whose prostate cancer was diagnosed with the PSA test
• A friend who needed a first-line treatment for metastatic colon cancer
• Anyone who has quit smoking ... then you know someone who has
benefited from research supported by the American Cancer Society.

Our Team Efforts...

Currently we have 9 registered team members.
Each team member has their own website.
Our team also has it's own website.
Donations, sponsorship, support can be done via the website(s) and in person by contacting an ACTS Group Team Member.

If you are interested in joining the team or supporting our efforts, please come to our first team meeting tomorrow at the Cain Center, just outside of the Kids' Gym P.E. Classroom, at 1:20 p.m.

I will be going over our team plans, sharing information I gained from the Captains' Meeting, and passing out our Member Packets at that time.

Questions? Call me! I will be happy to share what I know and try my best to answer your questions.

I have been carefully avoiding posting here because I feel guilty for not participating.  I have no excuse...just need to do so much here....blah blah blah...kick me now.

OK, so.....can I offer some food or drinks or something for y'all to pick up on your way?  And can I sponsor somebody?  And when *IS* this thing anyhow?

OH! I might can handle this.  I thought it was *this* weekend, and I felt guilty all afternoon working outside and thinking of y'all pulling down tents and being exhausted. I'm glad there's some more time to think and plan.  I'll see what I can do....
