Jesus H Christ. I am getting so sick and tired of these bastards wasting my hard earned money. Is there nothing these lowlifes won't do to get a freebie.
A GROUP of MPs studying Canada's prostitution laws is seeking $200,000 in federal funds to visit European cities with red-light zones and legal brothels. The five-member justice subcommittee plans to visit Britain, the Netherlands and Sweden. On this side of the pond Reno, Nevada is on the destination list.
"We want to go to Sweden because they have a particular model there where they decriminalize the sex worker, or the prostitute, and they still criminalize the customers," said NDP MP Libby Davies.
"In the U.K. they actually allow women to work out of their own homes. The Netherlands, of course, is a well-known situation where they have a fully operating area for the sex trade and I think we're very interested to see what the impact of that is from various perspectives."
Nevada is the only state in the U.S. to have legalized prostitution, permitted only in licensed brothels. According to the group's $56,526 travel budget request, the Reno-area bawdy houses have endured criticism for the conditions under which sex workers are forced to operate.
MPs would benefit from visiting these areas and meeting with law enforcement agencies, counsellors and brothel owners, the budget request document states.
The $143,678 travel budget request for Liverpool, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Stockholm includes $62,840 for transportation, $25,328 for accommodation, $12,000 for food and $43,500 for miscellaneous items like interpretation, official gifts and fees.
The trip by Davies, Tory MP Art Hangar, Bloc Quebecois MP Paule Brunelle and Liberals John Maloney and Hedy Fry was approved by the justice committee Thursday, but must still clear another Commons budgetary committee.
Justice committee chairman Paul DeVillers said the trip has merit.
"I think it will be of value for the subcommittee to go and speak to people in those countries that have different regimes and get a sense of which is the best way to go," he said.
Prime Minister Paul Martin has said he's not interested in reforms. DeVillers said the goal is to improve safety for workers and insisted there are many measures that can be taken short of legalization.
Davies said she was "sickened" that Martin ducked for cover on the controversial issue.
"He's got to face the reality that women are disappearing off our streets and they're being murdered," she said. "I felt really insulted that he would give this knee-jerk reaction."

I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg as the moral decay sweeps this country.
Perhaps these out of touch politicians feel this is a new way of creating taxes and jobs.
This reminds me of the old saw about the censors who had to watch the porno movie over and over and over and over again - just to make sure that it really was porno. The really sad part is that these assholes are using our money for their little junket. I wonder if it will be our money that is used to sample the wares, so to speak. I am not naive enough to believe that they will be making a trip of that length merely to find out a few technical facts that could easily be accumulated over the internet.

Why is this prostitution matter under review?
The only thing I see reading the posts is some hysterical comment by Davies.
Quote Davies said she was "sickened" that Martin ducked for cover on the controversial issue.
"He's got to face the reality that women are disappearing off our streets and they're being murdered," she said. "I felt really insulted that he would give this knee-jerk reaction." Unquote.
I assume Davies is referring to the Pig Farm Case still under investigation in Vancouver. Ninety five or so women disappearing under the noses of the RCMP would seem to have little to do with prostitution. Stupidity of the police would be a more appropiate observation.
Is prostitution a problem in Canada? I suspect it is mostly emotional excitability by our media.
Years past I used to frequent Davie Strreet in Vancouver. While working at the U of BC I found people were thinking Davie Street was a Sodom and Gomorrah place due to the press bobble. One woman told me girls and men were performing in the doorways at night. I walked Davie street on many different occassions and never found anything like the perception people had due to misrepresentation by the press. There was a movie Davie Street around the same time in the 1980's. This crap was pure fabrication. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. A bit of commercial sex goes on I am sure, but it is unlikely to destroy the fabric( what's dat) of Canadian society.
Again I ask, Is prsostiution a problem in Canada? Facts please not miracles.
Well Durgan, I live in Edmonton and right now we have dead hookers popping up about once a month for the last six months or so. The latest one was two days ago. Someone is killing hookers here as well. I think there is up to 50 unsolved murders and missing women/hookers going back around 10 years or so. They are tough to keep track of as by nature they are street people so trying to get an accurate count on the dead or missing is guess work.
I think the government looking into this to possibly legalize prostition is much ado about nothing. Prostition is not illegal. The City of Edmonton has a hand in pimping these women out as they charge an exorbitant fee to licence escort agencies. So as far as I am concerned, the government has all ready given it's blessing so there is no need to spend 150,000 tax dollars to reach the same conclusion that is all ready in practice today. _________________ Strangers have the best candy.
If the escort agencies are caught whoring, aren't their licenses revoked? I think prostitution is alot like pot. If you are courteous to others and discreet about it, you won't have any problems.
Whores die in numbers everywhere, it is a high risk job, and only an idiot would do it. Let Darwin do his job.
Aside from wingnut politicians seeking new kinds of job creation and pimping for taxes, perhaps these so called pillars of society should be addressing the problem of prostitution.
From what I've seen these young women are a mess.
I doubt these women decided prostitution was their number one career choice and goal in life, but for some reason they have become prostitutes [likely out of despair, neccessity, survival, fear, drug problems or mental illness, etc.].
From what I've been told, these women are in their younger years, yet they look old, tired, burned out and not very healthy at all.
I would think the government should be looking into ways of helping these young women and nothing else, otherwise these politician/pimps are promoting even further the moral decay of our society.
