Great movie, but be forewarned, it is one of the more graphic films to date. Cronenberg is known for some great films, including Crash but unlike Crash which was a broad sociological commentary on American society, this is a much more limited film-- in both size and scope-- and much more psychologically driven. It's a great film and not as predictable as mafia films tend to be. All in all a good watch, but for god's sake, keep the kids away.
P.S Viggo has a medium size penis which is shown more than once in a fight scene. _________________ I run a student organization.. You can call me El Presidente. |

If I have to make a choice, I find graphic sex much less pornographic than graphic violence, and sometimes not porno graphic at all.
Given your review, I doubt I will be watching it. _________________ "An it harm none, do what ye will"

The funny thing is, is that the number of violent scenes is much less than a film like Die Hard; but the violence is far more brutal. A great movie, but one to watch without the women present. _________________ I run a student organization.. You can call me El Presidente. |

MLW & I both found it to be a well made flick, intersting plot, well acted, and yes, some intense scenes, though not all were violent. I really thought the flick was no more or less violent than say No Country for Old Men or A History of Violence, but then again, all art is subjective.

Buddha,
In terms of other films, I still find Eastern to be more violent. To be sure, it is an excellent film. I've never seen a film about Russians that didn't make them out to be horrible people (Stepan, Viggo's character, even Kirill-- gay and off, but a tormented soul and not evil), and Cronenberg actually got the accent right. Viggo's accent was so spot on, that it gave it an authentic feel.
However, the throat slits, eye stabs, neck stabs, and nude systema fighting are all interesting; but for people who don't like violence (I do enjoy some violence) this would instantly make the movie less appealing. My girlfriend watched it with her head half way out from under a pillow. _________________ I run a student organization.. You can call me El Presidente. |

I guess when you get down to it, after seeing me naked, slit throats and all aren't likely to bother MLW.
