I find this rather interesting.
The Liberals are so short on cash that they can't afford to air commercials on TV about their Green Shift plans. One of the reasons they say is because Cretch changed the rules and now big corporations can't give as much to the party as they used to. (Funny I thought the Tories were the party that is all about big Corporations and don't care about the little guy)
They are so short on ash that they may not be able to afford to fight in By Elections this summer.
OTTAWA -- The Conservative Party is planning another four by-elections for the first week of September - two in Quebec and two in Ontario - but has hit a snag: John Godfrey, the Liberal MP for Don Valley West, is not going to resign until August 1, even though he has already taken up his new job as head of the Toronto French School.
The delay would push the Don Valley contest into the middle of September at the earliest. Conservatives allege the Liberals have stalled Mr. Godfrey's resignation because they are so hard-up for money they don't want to fight four by-elections at the same time. The Tories are obliged to call a vote in the Montreal riding of Westmount on July 23 for a by-election as early as seven weeks later. They are likely to call contests in the Quebec riding of Saint Lambert and the Ontario constituency of Guelph for the same day.
The Liberals say the date of retirement was of Mr. Godfrey's own choosing and has nothing to do with electoral strategy. But a quick look at the recently-filed party financial statements for 2007 suggest that if it's not, it should be.
While the Conservatives are peppering the airwaves with commercials lambasting "Dion's tax trick", the Grits have produced a feel-good, glossy commercial for their "Green Shift" carbon tax plan that they can't afford to run on television.
The party's financial statements show an organization that is still solvent but one in which expenses outpaced revenues by $1.6-million last year. The largest source of revenue was the government allowance awarded for each vote received at the last election, which came in at $8.5-million. Contributions from grass-roots Liberals accounted for $4.7-million, compared to around $18-million for the Conservatives. This is the bitter legacy of Jean Chrétien's campaign finance reforms, which wiped out corporate donations, the source of 50% of Liberal fundraising. Stephen Harper's Conservatives have added to Grit woes by reducing Mr. Chrétien's $5,000 individual contribution ceiling to $1,000.
The financial statements also show a $2-million loan with an extremely punishing 9% interest rate, collateralized against the assets not only of the party but of a number of riding associations. This is highly unusual and indicates a degree of financial stress long suspected but never admitted by the party.
This is not just an arcane party issue - there are serious implications for the timing of a general election and the long-term competitiveness of the party. Full Story
But it gets more interesting. Several well heeled, and I mean very well heeled, Liberals contribute not one thin dime to the party. I guess if your a Liberal and used to spending someone else's bucks you have a tough time parting with your own.
Yesterday, I publicized the fact that Stephane Dion failed to donate to the Liberal Party in 2007, all while encouraging rank-and-file members of the Party to give generously. But, he's not the only one; several prominent prominent members gave either nothing at all or very minor donations. So today, I'm going to unmask them as well. All data was obtained through Elections Canada's searchable online records.
Prominent Liberals who gave ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the Liberal Party in 2007:
1. Belinda Stronach
2. Denis Coderre
3. Garth Turner
4. Ralph Goodale
5. Martha Hall Findlay
6. Wayne Easter
7. Dominic Leblanc
8. Mauril Belanger
9. David McGuinty
10. Keith Martin
Prominent Liberals who gave LESS THAN HALF THE MAXIMUM ($1100)
1. Michael Ignatieff ($462.60)
2. Ruby Dhalla ($462.56)
3. Hedy Fry ($382.24)
4. Paul Szabo ($255.27)
In addition to the above mentioned names, 31 other Liberals gave zero dollars to their party and 16 gave less than half the maximum donation. Keep in mind that each of these individuals earns at least $147 thousand.
How can the Liberals expect Canadians to support them financially when even they won't write a cheque to their so-called Victory Fund? Source
So to sum up the little guy, that would be you and me folks are giving to the Conservatives and not the Liberals and the wealthy and powerful are not giving squat to the Grits even though it is their own party and where they make them big bucks. As for the party of big evil corporations, they can always go back to passing out brown envelopes in restaurants again. This time just be More careful and don't get caught OK guys _________________ Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable: John F Kennedy |

And their money problems seem to be getting worse.
Company seeks $8.5 million from Liberals for use of Green Shift name
OTTAWA — A Toronto firm is suing the federal Liberal party for more than $8 million and demanding it cease using the firm's name "Green Shift" for its carbon-tax plan.
Green Shift Inc. owner Jennifer Wright personally delivered a statement of claim at Liberal party headquarters today as she launched the lawsuit.
The statement says Wright is seeking $8.5 million for "general and special damages" and a further $250,000 for aggravated and punitive damages.
The lawsuit seeks a court injunction to stop the party from using or displaying the words Green Shift, or any other trademark or Internet domain name that is similar to the logo used by Green Shift, which has had its trademark registered since 2003.
The Liberal party has so far ignored Wright's demands to stop using the firm's name Source _________________ Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable: John F Kennedy |

It's the reason they haven't brought the Tories down. Maybe even the Liberals no longer believe in their own party?? Without cash it doesn't matter what the polls say before the election, an amateurish campaign will sink them. _________________ 18-1...Looks good on them!!! |

Maybe they can just steal some more. Somehow they may manage. Most political appointees at the federal level still owe their jobs to the crooks. If anyone believes Chretien wasn't guilty - at least through contrived 'plausible deniability' - in the Adscam fiasco they're delusional.
The fact that the Lib's are even close to the Tories in the polls is inexplicable and deeply disconcerting. Again I'll blame the poor judgment and warped values mostly of Ontarians. |

There's a CBC/art gallery rant hiding in here somewhere...
