As to the panel discussions on CBC, well... Let's just say I didn't see them and leave it at that.

Well, it's not the CBC, it's TVO, but you should enjoy this:

Click on "Watch the Video".

It's an hour long, but the type of "Eastern Canada is jealous of us" rant I am talking about comes from Ezra Levant in the last 20% or so of the video, so skip ahead to that if you like.  He get's so carried away that he embarasses himself and ends up retracting his comment that the ROC "despises" Alberta.  Very smart guy, but still a typical example of Alberta's obsession with the ROC's obsession with Alberta"

Two other things about this video 1) I agree that Linda McQuaig is a tool, so please don't come back with "I'd rather have Ezra on my side than Linda".  2) This is good example of the type of quality debate we get on PUBLICALLY FUNDED television, of which you know I am a big fan.  I am sure you will all admit that Steve Pakin does a pretty good job keeping his own bias under wraps and moderating the discussion effectively.

On one hand you could argue if you say anything long enough, a lot of peopel will believe it. On the other hand, just because Albertans are paranoid doesn't mean the ROC isn't out to screw them.

California and Texas used to be viewed by East Coast Americans as a parochial, backwater bastion of chicanos and mountain men. It's wealth was viewed as a passing phase; yet, decades later California is the heart of the US nation. It is the state that is on the vanguard of race relations, environmentalism, etc etc. Californians, like many "westerners" were skeptical of a government located thousands of kilometers away that was out to 'screw' them. Times change.

Up until 15-20 years ago, if you wanted to have a job that was based around the private sector Toronto was your best bet. Hell, in the 1970s Albertans moved to Montréal to work for Royal Dutch Shell, and BP. Now, people are moving West. People are naturally going to be suspicious of their wealth when they feel that they are being thought of or treated as, lessors. With time, it will change, it's a natural attitude.

If you walk into a Pub on Whyte Ave, or downtown St. John's and crack a joke at the expense of Toronto, everyone will laugh. Toronto is everyone's city they love to hate....

Ezra Levant is hardly a shrinking violet, nor do I think he's your typical Albertan. He's a professional media whore. Comparing his interview to the attitudes of ordinary people isn't much of a comparison.

My point was that there's plenty of ill will to be found among the readers of The Star or the G&M as demonstrated by their posts. Forget the professional pundits - I'm talking about ordinary people.

No, I didn't watch the video.

I wouldn't call the people that respond to the G&M and the Star typical ordinary people. That's like saying CPI reflects the attitudes of typical, ordinary Canadians.
