There goes one chance to keep the bitch in prison where she belongs. Hopefully they will come up with something to keep this memace off the streets.
TORONTO (CP) - Schoolgirl killer Karla Homolka will not be charged in the death of her sister when she's released from prison, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Tuesday.
Charges were never laid against Homolka in the 1990 Christmas Eve drug-rape death of Tammy Homolka, 15, although her 12-year prison sentence took the death into account. Nor were charges pursued following a public inquiry into the so-called "deal with the devil."
"I'm not going to go back and second guess the decision," said Bryant.
"An attorney general of the day made a decision based upon a public inquiry that was before him, and that's that."
The best way to protect the public upon Homolka's July 5 release is to limit her freedom under the Criminal Code, said Bryant.
"We are pursuing the legal avenues that are available to us."
On Monday, the Ontario government announced plans to bring an application against Homolka before a Quebec provincial court judge in mid-June. There are no guarantees the judge will grant the restrictions Bryant is seeking.
Sec. 810 of the Criminal Code allows the courts to impose curfews and other methods to curtail social interactions where there are reasonable grounds to fear a person will commit a criminal offence.
In a decision released last December, the parole board noted that while Homolka had made some progress toward rehabilitation, there were still concerns that justified keeping her in prison.
Homolka was convicted of manslaughter and handed a 12-year sentence in 1993 for her role in the brutal murders of Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French. In exchange, she later testified against her husband, Paul Bernardo.
Homolka will be released in July from the Joliette Institution in Quebec having served her full sentence.
There's speculation she will reside in Quebec, given she learned to speak French while in prison.
