On my way home form work today I saw something that disturbed me.
When I was in high school we got standard Sex Education if you are going to do it make sure it is safe, they taught us about condoms and to some extent birth control, etc.
However, when I was driving home from work I saw that there was a very large billboard promoting abstinence education in CCISD , I have seen some of these abstinence courses on television and don't at all like them teaching that to local kids if that is all that is being taught. If it is corresponding with another form of sex ed that is ok.
If any of you knows anyone who has more information on the version of this program we have going on here in CCISD I would like to know this may be one of the first actions it may at some point be necessary to take but I would want to research the class that they offer thoroughly. |

I grew up here in Corpus and aside from an under the breath mention of condoms from the teacher, we were never taught anything besides the standard, "Sex causes diseases so never have it" garbage. If it is what they are still teaching, I agree, this should be one of the first official actions for the Corpus Christi Atheists.

^Same here. I think the extent of sex-ed for my class was a nasty video of diseased and horribly disfigured genitalia.. Classic stupid scare tactics.. As abhorrent as it was, only now do I realize how truly terrifying it was that I was sent out into the world with no real useful information about how things work or how to properly protect myself..
