Adam,we New Zealanders are often giving the Aussies a bit of stick on a number of things, considering that a majority of them are of Irish descent,& we are mainly of Scots descent.

The Aussies put out a lot of circulating commemorative coins, whereas,we don't.Every year,a whole lot of medal-coins are issued over here.Aussie has a lot of bullion medal-coins,as does Canada.

Yeah, I knew you were in New Zealand. But as an ignorant American I though, New Zealand, Austalia, close enough. LOL. Laughing

America, Canada, close enough.  It's funny, but to us North Americans (I am both American and Canadian), we can't tell the difference between an Aussie accent and a Kiwi accent, yet to them it's second nature.  When I lived in Australia, I learned that they can't tell the difference between an American and Canadian accent.  I just told them that the Canadians sounded funny.  LOL  (What are you talking aboot?)  It took me a couple of years of living there to be able to tell an Aussie accent from a Kiwi accent.  The best part of it was I kept forgetting that *I* was the one with the accent!  LOL

Chris, the New Zealand accent is actually closer to the English,South African,Falkland Islands,& the Anglo-Rhodesian accents than it is to the Australian accent.

You are right about the difficulty of distinguishing between the American & Canadian accents, especially when the Canadian comes from Toronto.

Chris,I can guess that you will be giving your Canadian provincial coin collection a slight Upper Canadian accent,as it were.

I find the South African accents to be the "strangest" in that they are very hard to place.  All of the Aussies I knew used to tell me that kiwis had two vowels "uh" and "uh".  LOL  I'm not sure if I could still tell a Kiwi from a Aussie, but to the North American ears, they are very similar.

Actually, I find them to be easy to distinguish, but that's probably because I grew up in the US and have lived here in Canada for the last 5 years.  There are quite a few people who can tell that my accent isn't native Canadian.
