Guy's, my photography skills are not great. I'm sick & tired of trying to get good close up shots of my coins with Cameras. I have tried with Digital, SLR Cannon and Camcorder and still can't get good close up shots of the designers initials. I have used a copy stand with side mounted lights and still don't get the shots I see in some of your coins.

So I bit the bullet and ordered me a 20x40x80x Stereo Microscope with USB CCD PC Camera. I think this should get the job done. Expected to arrive next weekend. What do you Guy's think?? Best, Daffy Very Happy

I would like to get a setup like that going, I'm sure it will give you some great pictures, especially for varieties.  Like Adam says, show us what you get!

This stereo microscope has the camera bult into it right? How big of an object can you put in it? For example I have some large U.S. bank note(horse blanket's) that I would love to show off.
I have been thinking about a scaner but really don't know much about them. I also allready have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H9 camera, but to tell you the truth learning to use it and then geting the photos on the computer has been a challenge.
What do you guys think would be my best way to go? I know we are talking money, but some times it is better to spend a lettle more up frount than to end up redoing things. Where would you find one of those microscops any ways?

If you're taking pictures, you don't need a stereo microscope.  The digital camera will only use one eyepiece anyway.  However, $309 isn't a bad price at all for what you're describing.  I'm anxious to see what kind of pics you can take with that too.  Please post some up here for the rest of us to see.  I'm looking into some way to take pics of my measly little collection.

Hey David, Your best bet for photographing bills would be a scanner. Even a microscope won't get in on an entire coin. I wanted the microscope to get close up shots of different variations in mint marks, designers initials, die cracks, dates, and so on. You can get good scanners these days for under $100.00 bucks.  Best, Daffy

This is what I'm talking about. Die scratches on a Lincoln cent that I just could not get with a scanner or camera.

Designers initials on 1989 cent. Thought this was a RDV-005, but received an e-mail from James willey from Coneca confirming that it is a normal 006 with die wear or abrasion that prevented the kickstand on the G to show. Back to searching again.
