Hello Group
Last week I won an auction for 3 proof Susan B Anthony dollars. 1979-1981. I was skeptical at first, because the seller had poor quality photos. Light reflection from the 2X2 holder prevented seeing deatails. The item description was for "1979-1981 Susan B Anthony proof lot" I made a $15.00 bid and won. Coins arrived today. I pulled out my 15x loupe and examined each coin. I looked at the 1981 last and my heart started thumping. Yes folks, I received a 1981 type 2 . The mint mark is very clear. Looks just like the type 2 mint mark in the red book. This has to be my best auction purchase ever.
If anyone else has a great find like this, post it. I would love to read about it. This made my weekend! Have a great weekend. Best, imdaffy! |

The news is all good, just returned from Charleston and two dealers looked at it and said it was the real McCoy, clear flat S. I knew that it looked just like the type 2 shown in the red book. That now completes the entire set. IO,IO,so off to work I go. |

That's a great find, just goes to show there are some sellers out there who don't know what they have, or are in too big a rush to do their homework. Good opportunity for deals. |

Great find.
A friend does very well buying sets and partial sets on eBay.
I have gotten a few nice pieces, like an 1892 S Barber quarter, for the price of a Philly.
But, I do just as well (except for that quarter) at coin shows cherrypicking dealers' stock. |

This goes back a few years but I had a similar experience.
A seller had a coin up with lousy pics but good feedback. I emailed seller several times about condition, return policy etc and was comfortable with him so I bid.
Well, I ended up with a nice, original 1864 small motto Two Cent Piece for $71. I graded it as XF45 and when a friend was sending some stuff to PCI (yeah I know) I sent it in.
It came back as XF45 and I obviously agree.
A $500 coin for $71. I'd do that all day if I could. _________________ A closed mind is no mind at all |

My best ebay purchase to date. I use this one as my avatar. Paid more than I should have, or so I thought at the time, for a Lincoln cent short set, '41-'58, about $25. When I got it the '46S really stood out. I removed it and found that it was an S over D at about MS64/5. I saw that Ken Potter had sold one for about $800.00 at MS64. Made my day.
