I have been collecting fossils, mostly from the field, for years.
I turn over every stone that I see, sometimes in my backyard, even tho there aren't any in New York (Long Island).
Years ago, in upstate NY, I found pounds of them at the bed of a small waterfall.
Since them, checking out a ranch in Del Rio, Texas, I came home with twenty to thirty pounds of neat pieces.
Lately, I have only been able to get them at gem shows, recently purchased a nice 3"+ trilobite for about $3.
I thought that it was a steal. |

i also like to collect fossils. me and my friend go to the missippi river once in a while. we always find a place where the railroad dumps rocks so it won't flood out. i found fossils of starfish, and snails! pretty neat. |

When I was very young I collected rocks, and when your hoarding interesting looking rocks, fossils go right along with it. I've got to get out in the garage and find those sometime soon. _________________ -Adam |

Adam:
Just check the rocks thoroughly, look at all sides carefully.
Good luck |

I've collected fossils here and there, small stuff like crinoid stems, graptolites, sharks teeth, etc. Desert areas are great for fossil hunting, good conditions for preservation. |

I forgot about petrified wood. I used to hunt for that in Eastern Washington many years ago. And more recently in Egypt, sometimes whole logs appear from the sand, very exciting. |

Yes, if only they could be transported easily. As it is, they are just out there for everyone to see. Actually I hope they are still there, it would be a pity if they disappeared. |

Acanthite:
That is the problem, everyone takes a small piece and soon they are all gone. |
