Current Known Errors / Misc. CENTS
1936 :: Doubled die obverse; some doubling on the date, liberty, and In God We Trust
1941 :: Doubled die obverse; doubling on the date and liberty
1943 :: These were made of steel during the war (P, D, and S). There are a few that were made of copper and they are extremely rare.
1943D :: Double Mint Mark "D" stamped over another "D"
1944D :: "D" mintmark stamped over "S" mintmark
1946S :: "S" stamped over "D" mintmark
1955D :: up-right "D" stamped over a horizontal "D"
1955 :: Double-die, date doubled
1955 :: No VDB
1956D :: "D" stamped over a "D" mintmark
1959D :: Check the Reverse- Wheat for back Type, same as 1909-1958
1960 :: small date variety
1963D :: in the date 3/3, a three is over another three
1968D :: "D" stamped over "D" variety
1968D :: Double-die Reverse, strong doubling in the word America
1969S :: Double-die, strong doubling on In God We Trust, Liberty and the Date
1970S :: Double-die, strong doubling in words TRUST & LIBERTY
1971 :: Double-die obverse, strong doubling on the words liberty and In God We Trust
1972 :: Double-Die (date doubled)
1972 :: poor mans double-die, only doubling visible is on the 2 in the date
1973 :: Missing VDB
1980D :: S/D mintmark, shadow of a S mintmark above the D mintmark
1982 :: doubling in IN GOD WE TRUST
1983 :: Double-die, reverse doubled (back) In God We Trust doubled
1984 :: Double-die, Lincoln's Ear is doubled, look at ear lobe
1984D :: Double-die obverse, slight doubling on Date
1989 :: no VDB
1994 :: Double-die Reverse, doubling in columns (last three)
1995 :: Double-die, LIBERTY doubled
1995D :: Double-die, strong doubling in In God We Trust and the Date
1997 :: Double-die, look at the Ear Lobe like the 84
1999 :: Word has it that there are Double-dies out there
2003 :: double-die coins. Check areas below columns for signs of doubling (columns go into steps) & look at the FG, designers initials some show what apear to be "Trails"

1939 :: Words (Monticello & Five Cents doubled on back)
1942D :: up-right "D" stamped over a Horiz."D"
1942-1945 :: These were made of 15% silver during the war (except for the 1942 and 1942D). The mint marks are on the back above the Monticello.
1943 :: Double Date 1943 stamped over 1942
1943P :: Liberty, the Date, & Jefferson's EYE is Doubled
1944 :: 1944 nickels without the mint mark on the reverse are counterfeits.
1945P :: Double Die Reverse
1946D :: up-right "D" stamped over a Horiz."D"
1946S :: Doubling of the Date & Liberty visible
1949 :: "D" stamped over an "S" mintmark
1954 :: "S" stanped over the "D" mintmark
1955 :: "D" stamped over an "S" mintmark
1971S :: Some Proof Nickels of this year were made without a mintmark. They are very rare errors.
1979S :: Found with "Blob" and Clear mintmarks, with the Clear version being the rarer of the two.
1981S :: Found with clear and "blob" mint marks.
1990D :: Missing "FS"
1997P Matte :: Special uncirculated Nickels were included in the 1997 Botanic Gardens Sets. They are extremely well struck, like Proof coins, but have a satiny, matte appearance.

1976D :: Double-die Obverse (FRONT) Doubling on the word LIBERTY. Very few known
1988 :: No mint mark under date
1989 :: No mint mark under date
Current Known Errors / Misc. HALVES
1966 :: No FG (FG designers initials missing from back)
1970D :: Issued only in official Mint Sets.
1971D :: A few pieces were struck in silver clad by mistake.
1974D :: Double Die - the (Trust) is doubled, look at the RUS in the word TRUST.
1977D :: A few pieces were struck in silver clad by mistake.
1982 :: No FG (FG designers initials missing from back)
1983 :: No FG (FG designers initials missing from back)
1987 & 1987D :: These were issued only as parts of Uncirculated and Souvenir sets.
1990 :: No FG (FG designers initials missing from back)
2002 - Present :: Not entered into 'regular' circulation. They were sold to collectors and dealers though in rolls and bags. Keep any that you find.
Any 'S' Mint :: Any half dollar with an 'S' mint mark was minted in San Francisco and only issued in Proof sets.
Current Known Errors / Misc. DOLLARS
1974D :: 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar (aprox. 10 known to exist)
1776-1976 :: 40% Silver Bicentennial Eisenhower Dollar (2 known to exist)
1776-1976 :: Bicentennial Dollars almost Uncirculated Condition, these are getting harder to find
1977D :: 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar (20 known to exist)
1979 :: Susan B. Anthony Dollar - (Near Date) wide rim
1979S :: Susan B. Anthony (Clear "S")
1981S :: Susan B. Anthony (Clear "S")
1989 :: Congress Proof Dollar Coin - (Check for Die Rotation)
2000 :: Sacagawea Dollar blank platchet, not stamped at all
2000 :: Sacagawea Dollars, mulled with Washington Quarter (Quarter front, Dollar back)

1941S- Large S
1941S-Inverted Mintmark(upsidedown S)
1942-Double Die Obverse-look for doubling on Jefferson's nose and on IN GOD
1942-DOuble Die Obverse-doubling on the 2 of 1942 and trust
1942D-Repunched Minmark-Look for doubling on the D mintmark.
1956D-DDR-doubling on E PLuribus Unum, AMerican and Five Cents
!959D-DDR-doubling onE PLuribus Unum and United
1962S-DDR doubling on E PLuribus Unum and States
1964-D Doubled mIntmark
!964-D DDR- doubling on United States OF and Cents
2004-P-DDO doubling on IN God We Trust, Liberty, 2004 and mintmark _________________ Colin  |

I realize that your listings are just scratching the surface of varieties, but, note that you said:
1949 :: "D" stamped over an "S" mintmark
1954 :: "S" stanped over the "D" mintmark
1955 :: "D" stamped over an "S" mintmark
The D is NOT stamped over an S, it is punched into the die, therefore a RPM or repunched mintmark.
Just being technical, I guess. |
