Grabbed a nice gold earing this weekend while out detecting.
Looks like it was run over by a car, still nice, marked 14 kt.
Hoop shaped. |

If I had detector I'd love to have the opportunity to walk over the Gettysburg battlefields to see what I can find. I know its illegal there as it is in any National Park but it would be nice to do. |

Wow, can you imagine what you'd find!
In fact, talk about illegal, if you are even caught with a detector in your can in a National Park you are subject to a fine, loss of the detector, and your car.
A few years ago a guy was fined and lost car etc. charged with "intend to detect".
An expensive lesson, especially the cost of the attorney. |

Wow, that would be enough to ruin my whole weekend. I didnt know they could do anything if the detector was still in the car but I guess its their rules. I wouldnt want to be caught with it if I was somewhere I wasnt supposed to be. |

Just leave it in your hotel room.
Also, be careful in the area, be sure to get permission on private property. |

This guy I always talk to at coin shows, who has a big display of a bunch of the good stuff he's found told me a story. He said that some years back a group of 3 or 4 guys tried to sneak onto one of those battle sites in all black ninja-suits, night vision goggles, and with top of the line detectors. I think it may have been Yorktown, or one of those revolutionary battle sites. They got caught, and all had to do some time over it. _________________ -Adam |

I just saw your note, the earing is light only about .5 pennyweight (dwt) so, about $5 gold. |

The story is true, I don't know about how much time they did, but, any time is too much. |

They're pretty strict about that...still it would be awesome what you could find. _________________

No, they haven't.
The area has been off limits except for the occasional archaeological dig.
TONS of stuff out there |

i'm suprised the archaeologists don't own detectors. i was in a cave in tenessee and they showed what they found. this cave had a underground bar in it and they took the wooden flooring out and detected. they found all kinds of wheaties and pre 1960 jefferson nickels, and a few other stuff. it had been closed since the 1960's. |

Nah, they have to study the stuff first.
However, they asked for help years ago and worked on Custer's Last Stand.
It helped to correct some errors in the history books, about where and when. |
