It appears that the Home section isn't being used. I think it might be a good idea to make use of it. The news could tell things such as upcoming contests and other changes to the forum.

Just an idea.

what do you mean by home? are you talking about the news ticker?

The link on the top left hand corner, next to "Forums".

I think. It syas, under Welcome, this is a sample of what you can do with the portal system. Please feel free to make any changes in your control panel.

Then under that it says News.
