I didn't either until I was 16.  It's a shame, too, as I always wanted to be a pilot, although I am only excluded from flying commercial planes, to the best of my knowledge.

Steve,you will be very pleased to know that I finally picked up one of the Singaporean plastic $5 notes.It was in a bulk lot of currency that my boss's twin brother had cashed in a bulk lot of coins for.

The first 2 numbers after the serial number on the New Zealand plastic notes is the code for the date.We still get notes with the '99' date code in change.I certainly miss handling paper money though,especially the old $1 & $2 notes.
