I took about 3 weeks off while we moved to a new house (and we're still not done!) I decided it was time to get some rolls again.
Picked up a box of pennies and $100 in dimes. (They didn't have any boxes of nickels today). Good thing, as I picked out 2 silver dimes from the first roll. 1962 and then a 1951. Needless to say, the rest of the dimes were a letdown.
Through $5 worth of pennies and so far a couple of wheats and a George VI, oldest being a 1940 wheat. I'll finish the other $20 in pennies before the weekend is over. |

Cool. Let us know what you find. Dimes are the one denom. I've never searched. How often do you find silver dimes? _________________ -Adam |

I've found a total of 7 silver dimes in a year of searching, but it's been off and on, and never more than $100 at a time. My "float" is usually $100-200 worth of coins at any given time. It's usually nickels with pennies a close second. Other than that, I don't search as much, so figure I've probably checked $1000-1500 in dimes so far. Funny thing is, I've found two silver dimes in a roll twice now, so that accounts for 4 of the 7. Also, I have only found one duplicate silver dime (1968), otherwise, they are all different years!
On to the total tally for the box of pennies. It was a pretty good box compared to most of the ones I search:
10 Wheats (oldest 1936D)
10 George VI (oldest 1940)
24 QEII first portrait (1953-1964)
Quite a few Lincoln Memorials (150+), about 60/40 for zinc and copper. No wide AMs that I could tell, but I really do need to pick up a copy of Chuck Daughtery's book. |

Not roll searching but interesting thing happened at work. A co-worker came up to me the other day and handed me a 1964 quarter and said he heard that I collected coins, said that he got it in change and thought I might want it. I traded him quarter for quarter which was all he wanted. I could do that all day long. Maybe more of those co- workers will start searching their coins for me as well.

You'd be surprised at the coins I've gotten from co-workers in the past. Most aren't worth a whole lot, and they usually don't want anything in return, but once in a while they'll hit me with a stunner. |

Another $100 in dimes, from the same bank/branch as last week. Let's hope for some more silver!
If the US$ keeps tanking like it is, then I'll have to put back all those US coins I took out of circulation, as they would be worth less than the Canadian coin! (Of course, after keeping one of each date/mintmark. Let's not get stupid!) |

$100 in dimes was a bust. At the current conversion rates, it may not be worthwhile to keep the American change soon.
I swapped out the dimes for $100 in quarters at another bank. We'll see if this yields much. There are a few commemoratives I don't have doubles of, but not many. I'll keep an eye out for some of the hard-to-find varieties. |
