Hey, I'm Chris. I'm not only new to the site but I'm new to coin collecting all together. I was collecting collectable games like Magic: The Gathering, Mechwarrior and Horrorclix and I really liked them but in order to get full advantage of these you need someone to play with. And getting out to the game shops on a regular basis was no longer an option, my wife and I had our first child a while ago. But I still wanted something to collect. Since my favorite part about collecting is reading about and studding my collection (and I thought that instead of wasting money on game pieces how about something that might make my daughter a little money back) I thought coins could be just the thing. It was. I can’t stop reading about it, I’m gathering all the Statehood quarters (out of circulation) I can find and I think I’m going to take up mercury dimes. I’m having a blast. |

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. The statehood quarters are a great place to start and most all of them can be collected right out of your pocket except for proof issues. Mercury Dimes are also a great collection but there are a few that'll set you back a little bit if you're serious about completing the set. This happens to be one of my favorite sets and I just completed mine a few weeks ago. If you're ever unsure about a purchase you plan to make please come here and ask questions first, there are some certain do's and dont's thats also important.
For example:
Never clean your coins
Never buy SGS graded coins
Never buy into a deal thats too good to be true
Never believe any roll of coins is unsearched
Do read all you can about a coin you want to collect
Do buy the coin and not the holder
Do ask questions before you buy
Do preserve your collection to the best of your ability
These are things that I follow for myself and wanted to pass them along. |

Welcome Chris,
I hope you find that coin collecting is something you will enjoy. There are a lot of people that will be happy to give advise about the hobby and answer questions you may have.
Myself I enjoy the hunt for Die Varieties, mainly Lincoln Cents but I do have a few other coins around here as well.

Welcome aboard,Chris.Coin collecting is very addictive, but it is a very positive addiction.
There is no right or wrong way to collect coins. It is a very flexible hobby,as you can collect the coins from 1 country or from several countries.
In my case,I have a special interest in the coins from across the British Commonwealth.
With modern American coins,it isn't only the 50 States' Quarters that you can collect from change. There is also the Presidential Dollars as well.

Looks like everyone else covered the important things, so all that's left is to say, "welcome!".
Don't hesitate to ask questions here. We were all new at one point, and some of us still are relatively new at this whole coin collecting thing. We have quite an eclectic group here, and chances are good that someone knows the answer to pretty much any question you have, and if not, they know where to send you to get it.
Glad to have you on board here. |

Welcome to the forum! You`re doing well by reading, there are so many great books that will get you even more into collecting. If you enjoy collecting from circulation, a great set to try out is Jefferson nickels. They run 1939 to present and nearly all can be found in pocket change and bank rolls. |
