Have just recieved my second of the three Wellington £5 so only got Page to get now
£5 1988
Blue
Chief Cashier G M Gill
Front Chariot & angel above BoE seal, QEII
Rev Battle scene possibly Talavera or Salamanca, Duke of Wellington 1769 -1852
Security Thread
Watermark Duke of Wellington
Series D
I am unsure as to which battle is depicted on the reverse of the note, from looking at it, I would deffinatly say it was from the Penisular campaign and not the later ruckus at Waterloo LOL any Info appreciated _________________ 502 TO DATE 23/10/07 http://www.banknotebank.com/?collection=De-Orc

Steve, they are a nice design, but I can't get one that hasn't been written on.I use the written on ones that I get as currency. The same goes for the 10 & 20 Quid notes that have been written on.

Having contacted the Bank of England to ask for further info on this note, they sent me the following
Harry Eccleston OBE designed the Wellington £5
On the reverse of the £5 note in question there is a portrait of the Duke of Wellington based on a painting of the Iron Duke by Sir Thomas Lawrence together with a Peninsular War scene, (the battle of Fuentes de Onoro in 1811)
I appreciated there prompt reply greatly _________________ 502 TO DATE 23/10/07 http://www.banknotebank.com/?collection=De-Orc

Steve, you should send an email to george.cuhaj@fwpubs.com to tell him that very useful piece of information.
The Order of the British Empire brings back memories. Those were the days when New Zealanders were awarded proper Royal Honours, not like the rubbish that's given out over here these days.
