So far, I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the nickels, and this has been a great box.
I haven't tallied anything yet, but so far I've only found about 4 or 5 Jeffersons. (They're not worth as much anymore!! LOL). The best find of those, however, was a 1948. By far the oldest Jefferson I've found here in Canada.
Oddly enough, I think I've only found one King George VI nickel so far, but tons of early QEIIs.
The first nickel I pulled out was a 1953 chromium-plated nickel, and so far, I've found 5, count them 5 Centennial nickels. (I've found one so far in about $2000-2500 worth of nickels.) I'm going to have to go back and see if I can get another box before they start handing them out to the other customers.
Oh yeah, this is the bank that gives me the foreign coins they pull from circulation and save them for me. Today they gave me a 10 Drachma from Greece, a 50p from Great Britain, and a Hong Kong dollar, along with 2 "Tom Foolery" tokens. |

I'll try to get one. I'm not good with the camera, and I pretty much have to leave collateral when I borrow it from my better half. LOL I need to find one with a good macro setting specifically for coin shots. I looked at some Sonys earlier this week, but I don't know if they just don't have a good macro, or if the problem was me. |

On this topic, when I went searching for a camera, I first went online to Sony, HP, etc, and looked though models in my budget. Then I read some independent reviews. Finally I went to one of those mega-stores with tons of cameras, took out a coin, and started taking pictures with the models I had researched (using lots of light). In the end I got something that works fine, which is good because I had just about beat the subject to death at that point. |

What were some of the ones that you looked at? and which one did you end up getting?
Thanks, |

I can't remember the models I narrowed down, except to say that they were all between $250 and $350 US, had a close macro setting, and had at least 7 megapixels. Canon had several, as did Sony and HP. I chose a Canon Powershot A630, which has 8 megapixels, though I was told at the store that any more than 7 is probably wasted for what I was doing. The only downer to the one I have is that it needs lots of light for macro shots, or it goes to autoflash, which is annoying because at that range the flash is shadowed by the camera body. It was about $300. |

That sounds like the kind of camera I'm looking for. I started with Sony since I've got enough Sony points on my mastercard to get it for free.
On a coin-roll searching note. I finished that box and had a few more nice ones. I went back today and they didn't have any more nickel boxes, so I took the $80 they had in rolls. I've only gone through two and already found a 1942 Jefferson! (remember, I'm in Canada, so that's a BIG deal). It wasn't silver, I know that will be your first question, but still, it's a great find without having to go to the US! |

$10 into the box of pennies and I've pulled 3 wheats another 4 Geo VI's, and my first Geo V from circulation - 1933. Too bad it wasn't a few years earlier. I'm missing 1921-1930. Not too bad, I have to pace myself or there won't be anything left to do tomorrow and I'll have to do some household chores! LOL |

You've got more discipline/patience than me. When I roll search I go through the rolls as fast as I can, I can't control it. lol _________________ -Adam |

I go pretty quick, but the American cents stand out regardless of which side they're on, then anything older than 1953 doesn't have QEII on it, and she's had four different portraits on the coins, so you can narrow it down a little further without even reading dates. Then, there was a period of several years where the coins were 12-sided as well, and that spanned across parts of two different portraits. The Geo V cent stood out because all of the modern reverses have only been around since 1937, so anything before that jumps out at you. The only ones I set aside for a closer inspection are the 1985's as I check them for the pointed 5. I save all the ones from 1969 and earlier, so I go back and check the 1965's for the different varieties at a later date, too. I went through $180 in nickels this week already, so I have been going pretty fast. LOL |

WOW. Sounds like you can get alot of variety out of a roll of coins. It makes me wish I found more Canadien coins in rolls down here. _________________ -Adam |

I'd be happy to swap you a box of Canadians for a box of Lincolns. Shipping would kill that deal, though. LOL I often find Euro cents in the rolls as well, and the occasional Bahamas or Bermuda cent, not to mention probably anywhere from 5-15% US pennies. |
