I cut the individual continents out of a world map, and glued each continent to a poster board. Then I put world coins in flips on the poster boards with lines going from the coins to the country they are from. And I have them around my bedroom on different walls. Do ya get what I'm saying? Not sure if my description describes it well enough. I also keep a magnifying glass with a built in light laying around, so you can easily examine the coins. So basicly, I have a world map spread out around my room, with coins corresponding with the countries on the maps that they're from. I currently have about 170 coins representing about 43 countries, and the coins are dated from the 1870's to the current decade.
Anyone else ever do anything remotely similar to this?
I'm also thinking about making some kind of display out of my 19th century holed coins. _________________ -Adam |

I have not done something like that combining maps and coins, but it sounds really cool. What an excellent way to get a feel for political geography. The only thing I have done that is remotely similar was to draw travel routes I had taken on a world map. |

I have binders of world coins, and on the front of the binders I have a map of the continent (in the case of Africa or South America), Region (Caribbean, Middle East, Scandanavia), or country (India, Australia, Great Britain, Mexico). I probably have about 10 binders at the moment (in addition to all of my US and Canadian albums), but I've got to do some serious updating, and I'm sure the number of binders will go up to about 17 or 18. |

It depends on how big your collection is. I like the idea of the map, although for some countries I just have too many coins to choose just one coin. I like that idea, it's a better way to show them off. |

Yeah, my maps have grown to multiple posterboards for Europe. And I had to split up North America, since I have so many coins that my family has gathered while vacationing in the Caribbean. _________________ -Adam |

Or you could use historical maps. Wouldn't that be a neat idea? Have a map of Europe between WWI and WWII the coins from that time period and the countries from that time. We just entered the 4th dimension! |

Yes it will be an ongoing project. But I'm not buying large quantities of foreign coins, so it should be manageable. The map that I cut apart was from 1970, so I actually had to make some notes on there. For example, I had a coin from Belize, but my old map has Belize labelled as Brittish Honduras. _________________ -Adam |
