I showed this on another forum and it was confirmed to be mechanical doubling, albeit an interesting one. Since I was able to get a number of OK photos of it, thought I would show it here. The flat or 'shelf like' appearance of the doubling is a diagnostic to it being mechanical and not true die doubling. I'm no expert on the matter, I've only been learning about errors/varieties as of recently, to really see these aspects I need a 10x loupe or better.
Note the extra chin and nose on Lincoln
doubling of letters in motto, and trace of extra 'rim'
Several letters in LIBERTY are doubled

Acanthite, here is a site that may be useful for you to help identify these variations in doubling. I'm still learning the difference. http://www.coingalaxy.com/coininfo/doubling.html Here is one of mine that sure looked like it was the real thing. This is an Olymiad Silver Dollar 1983. Best Daffy
