Can anyone help me identify these coins I picked up at a show over the weekend? I think C is of the Netherlands and A is English or of some English colony. I just want to be sure. [img]

B is Israel, and I think the last one is Japanese.  I have it, but I can't remember where it's from.  Got pics of the other side?  I'll know when I see the other side.

A: Great Britain 2 Shillings (1953-1970)

B: Israel 10 agorot (1960-1977) aluminum bronze

C: Netherland Antilles 1971 10 cents (1970-1985)

D: Japan 5 Yen (1949-1958) old script

Topher thinks for the hint on B. I have some and was just wondering where to start looking for it.

A little more info for you:

The Israeli 10 agorot is dated JE (Jewish Era) 5720, which = 1960 AD

The Japanese 5 yen is dated Showa Era year 26, which = 1951 AD

And a question.  When you took photos of the reverses, did you rotate the 5 yen by 90 degrees from when you took the obverse pictures?  I ask because if you did not, then the coin has a rotated die which in Japan is fairly rare.

No problem.  I've got a few Israeli coins, and can recognize Hebrew, I just can't read it.  Sad

Glad to help.  If you want to keep getting world coins, my suggestion is to buy whatever looks interesting and research it, or post it here and someone will probably know.  Also, the following page is very useful:

If you have about $40 to put out, buy a Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000.  Its an excellent reference guide and a lot of book for the money.  Some libraries have it in the reference section.

Look for an older edition of the Standard Catalog on ebay, or over at www.abebooks.com - I managed to get an ex-library copy for a lot less.  Only thing is it's one year older, which is rarely a big deal.  Saves you money to spend on more coins.  Very Happy
