I just opened a roll and seen this.. At first I thought double stamped, but a after taking it out and getting a closer look, I just don't know. Have any of you seen anything like this? Any of you know what this error might be, or how it happened This came out of a sealed roll from the bank.

Nice gloves. I've got a few pair just like it. As for the coin, it looks like post-mint damage. But then again I'm not an error guy. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help you out. _________________ -Adam |

I'm not an error expert either, but I don't see anything there other than post-mint damage. Good photos though, show very clearly what you are talking about. |

Adaml and acanthite, Thanks to both of you for looking. I get my gloves here on the net, where I get everything else I need for the hobby.
I know it sure looks odd, but I really think it happened at the mint, stayed in something too long,or....?
the edge is so clean, I swear I think it went through the same machine several times, stamped several times, something like that?
Thanks for looking. |

Hmm, interesting, while it might have happened at the mint, I wouldn't think it is an error. Looks like it got caught up in one of the roll counting machines somehow, but never saw one happen like that. Might have gotten damage from when they put the lettering on possibly, but I don't know how they would still get the lettering on it with that damage, so that might rule out a planchet error. Has me stumped. Neat coin. Do you collect other coins at all? Nonetheless, still a neat conversation piece! Neat find. Oh, and btw, welcome to the forum!

Interesting for sure, still has me wondering, I think it seem's to have a look of being softer on the edge, like soft copper, a brighter copper color, it just don't look like a reg.edge. I'll hold on to it for a while and see if any more like it turn up.
Thanks for the Welcome Phoenix.
I have a few Morgans's, tend to prefer silver over anything else. |
