First of all...hi, my very first post here. I'm a long time relic hunter, but have always planned to get rolls to search from the bank, but just never had. Anyway, had to make a deposit yesterday, so I decided to get some halves to search. I'm not too keen on the terminology of coin rolls, but what they told me (at least the teller that chimed in from behind the teller I was talking to), that the only halve rolls they had, had been turned back in and had already been searched. They didn't have any "Federal" rolls (what's that?)...their "collectors" had already gotten them. OK...so, what was she telling me?

While I'm here, here's a pic of my finds from one day coinshootin' a couple years ago. I don't specifically hunt coins, but have added a lot of coins to my collection via relic hunting.

5 wheats, '40 '52 '53 '55 '57, 2 silver Rosies, '54 and '59, and a nice 1925 SLQ.

Thanks for looking and any responses.

Greg

Welcome to the forum, scdigger.  Those silver coins are always a great find, I don't search many quarters but would probably change my tune if an SLQ or two showed up in a box.

I've noticed as well that getting 'unsearched' halves is difficult, most banks don't carry them at all, one bank I know that does carry them has rolls that clearly have been searched.  Someone else on the forum might have ideas on how best to get them.

Welcome scdigger. Nice find on the above coins. I never find nice coins when detecting. If I do find one, it's eat up with so much crud and difficult to tell what it is. I live in the low lands of S. Carolina and our soil around here is very acidic. I checked our local banks several times for rolls of Half Dollars and none are ever available. I have had some good luck searching through rolls of Lincoln cents finding variations and wide AM cents. Show us some more of your finds. Very Happy  Best, Daffy

Hey man, welcome to the forum! I moved your post to the Introducitions so everyone can meet you. Federal rolls are rolls that are from the Feds I guess (I know, I'm mr obvious Mr. Green). Congrats on your other finds man! To learn more about coin lingo, go to www.pcgs.com, and they have a place on it that explains different coin lingo words. If you don't mind me asking, what coins do you collect? Welcome again man, and I look forward to seeing you around!

scdigger, the US Mint still has rolls of 2001 and 2007 Kennedy Halfs that can be purchased through them. The P & D rolls sell for $32.95. Best Daffy Very Happy

Hi scdigger, welcom to the forum Its a fun bunch and someone can answer about any thing you need to know. I really like the Quarter. Why care if a roll has allready been searched? You may find something no one else wonted. You could go to the Bank and get $150 of Halves and find most are 40% silver. I have knowed of this to happen. Best of luck.
